This is your chance to get a nice 914 at a great price if you are willing to do some work. The car is nearly complete, about the only parts needed to finish it are an ignition switch electrical section and the heater flap control cable and the short heater hoses that run between the heater valves and body. The car will also need some wiring work done, the harness is good but some of the wires need sorting out. The headlights and most of the other lights work, so do the wipers, the turn signal and horn wiring needs attention. The new fuel pump needs to be hooked up, and you will probably have to install a new ignition switch electrical section.  I bought the car seven years ago and know that it has been sitting for at least a decade, it was a rolling chassis when I bought it and was missing a lot of parts including the speedometer so I have no idea what the real milage is. The motor last ran about a year ago when I had it in another 914, it has twin Brosol Solex 40 mm carbs with electric chokes, and it also has hydraulic lifters and cam, it is a very quiet engine that only has about 200 miles on it. The side shift late model transmission shifts nicely but I cannot vouch for it working 100% as I have never had it in a running car. The rear shocks are KYB gas, the rear brakes need to be reassembled and installed, the front brakes are rebuilt and the master cylinder is a new 911 type. The tie rod ends are new and so are the wipers, the tires are all good but need balancing and are not matched. The upholstery is serviceable but not perfect, the carpet is new and the pedal cluster has been rebuilt with bronze bushings. The passenger side inner door weather strip is in need of replacement and a couple of other weather strips are in not-perfect shape, the front trunk bulkhead seal and the front targa seal, the rest are in good shape. The car is solid with no rust in the floor pans, rockers or hell hole. The paint has runs in it that don't show up well in the photos, they might color sand and buff out but it may need to be re-shot on the passenger side. I need to sell this car now, otherwise I would have finished it, currently it is registered non-op. I have a trailer that the buyer can use to move it, and I also have a large stock of 914 parts, if the new owner needs anything I have in the first six months I will provide it for free, including a transmission. The radio is junk, and there are no speakers, and the right rear tail light has some sun cracks. The starting bid may seem high but it is less than I have into the motor alone, I hate to have to sell this car now but need the cash. The picture of the motor out of the car show a different exhaust system and starter, the car has a new starter and muffler. The photo of the car in bare metal shows the original color, yellow.

Leno steals Porsche 918 from The Quail for latest Garage episode

Sat, 31 Aug 2013

Just because he's a famous celebrity doesn't mean Jay Leno got to take it easy at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance earlier this month. Having already spent some time with the gorgeous Cadillac Elmiraj Concept and Ed Welburn for a recent episode of Jay Leno's Garage, the late night talk show host also got to put a few miles on a prototype version of the Porsche 918 Spyder.
Like a usual episode of JLG, Leno first goes over the details of the car with Frank Walliser, head of the 918 Spyder's development, before taking it out for spin. Check out the full episode, which is posted below, to hear what Walliser has to say about the car. More importantly, though, crank up your computer's volume and let the car's high-revving engine and amazing exhaust note do plenty of talking for itself.

Porsche Cayman S and Caterham 7 go head to head on the drag strip

Fri, 27 Jun 2014

We recently saw the standard Porsche Cayman go up against a Subaru WRX STI in a one-mile drag race with surprising results. Apparently, Evo had a similar idea of evaluating the Cayman's quickness. However, it opted for the more powerful S model and chose a flyweight Caterham Roadsport 140 as the challenger. Will the results of this battle be as close at the end of the kilometer-long (0.62-mile) drag?
Neither of these are cars you'd usually associate with drag racing, but they are nearly evenly matched. Evo selected them based on power-to-weight ratio, with the Caterham offering a scant 140 horsepower in a lithe 1,213-pound package. The Porsche is a quite svelte 2,910 pounds but has 325 hp to haul it around.
Of course, power-to-weight ratio isn't everything. There are a ton of other variables like aerodynamics and gearing that play a huge role, as well. Can the little Caterham's weight advantage overcome the better aero and additional power of the Porsche? Scroll down watch the video and find out.

2015 Porsche Boxster GTS [w/video]

Thu, 22 May 2014

You know the sound: the startling pop-brraaap-pop-pop shotgun fire of unspent flammables coursing through exhaust pipes that usually signals a raw, naughty powerplant beneath the hood.
But when you're nestled in the Porsche Boxster GTS' snug seats, it's not a crackling small block V8 or a high-strung Italian flat crank making the devilish racket, but rather the new king of the Boxster/Cayman lineup, a 3.4-liter flat-six that produces 330 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
Within the emotional vacuum of a spec sheet, the Boxster GTS' pumped-up grunt seems pretty mild, with a gain of only 15 hp and 7 lb-ft, respectively. But the reworked acoustical experience goes a long way towards suggesting the GTS has a trace of racing blood in its veins, and might even be missing its catalytic converters. In addition to the sonorous, centrally positioned tailpipes, the cabin also fills with lovely mechanical strains thanks to the "Sound Symposer" acoustical amplifier that's trickled down into the Boxster/Cayman lineup from the 911 for the first time. Boxster S, we hardly knew ya.
