After a torrid 12 year love affair, it's time to let the old gal go. Got my eyes on a younger, sleeker model!  Purchased in 2002 as a bone stock 2.0 car, and spent the subsequent years (and a good chunk of my kids' potential college money) upgrading to where it is at today.  The suspension has been gone through and all new, high end parts replaced all the originals...Tarrett Engineering, CFR, Koni to name a few. The engine conversion was done to a high standard, utilizing a bulkhead engine mount, real 914-6 cooling tin, Vellios oil tank, professionally made wiring harness that plugs into the original harness, and original bell crank throttle assembly. The engine is a bone stock 2.4T with CIS injection that runs strong(ask the turboed Miatas at our local AXs!). The external oil cooler keeps oil temps under control on hot days on track. The interior is in great shape, the original dash has absolutely no cracks or blemishes.  It has been used as primarily an autocross car, but has spent a fair amount of time on track (VIR, CMP, Rockingham) and has always been a solid performer. It won its class last month in our local autocross! Its also a fun weekend driver, always turns a lot of heads and gets a lot of comments at the gas station! The car looks great and handles amazingly - one ride and you will understand the meaning of the saying "it handles like a go-kart".

Porsche prioritizes 200,000-unit sales target over exclusivity [w/poll]

Thu, 21 Aug 2014

Would a Porsche still be a Porsche if it weren't as exclusive? That's the question which industry pundits are asking - and customers may soon as well - as the German automaker emerges from the fringe in pursuit of larger volumes.
A dozen years ago Porsche was barely selling over 50,000 units per annum. In a sales surge that has gathered pace as fast as a 911 Turbo, however, it was already hovering around the 100,000-unit mark a few years later. Last year it sold over 160,000, and has targeted 200,000 units by 2018. But it may not even take that long.
Automotive News reports that Porsche has advanced its targets to reach for 200,000 units by the end of this year or the next. The bump in sales would be driven particularly by the introduction of the new Macan, of which it aims to sell 50,000 units annually, starting next year. The Cayenne currently stands far and away as its most successful model. The 911 and Panamera have swapped second place a few times over the past five years, followed by the Boxster and Cayman.

1986 Porsche 959 Prototype at Barrett-Jackson sees gavel fall at $440,000 [UPDATE: w/video]

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

Fans of Porsche in America have longed for the chance to buy a 959 ever since the German automaker produced and sold it (well, sold it everywhere but the United States...) in the 1980s. Well, they just had their chance. The car you see above is a Porsche 959 prototype built in 1986, and only one other running prototype still exists.
The 959 prototype can't be driven on public roads, as it carries no such certification. Somehow, we doubt that matters all that much to the new buyer - this one is probably going to be sitting in a collection. When the gavel finally fell, bidding had reached $400,000, plus a 10-percent buyer's fee.
Check out our high-res image gallery above to see this prototype up close, and scroll down below to watch a video of it crossing the auction block and for its official auction description.

Former Porsche CEO Wiedeking indicted over VW takeover bid

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

Do you recall the failed efforts by Porsche to take over Volkswagen? According to a Bloomberg report, former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above) and ex-CFO Holger Haerter have finally been charged with market manipulation over the exercising of options as part of the German sportscar manufacturer's ill-fated attempt to take over the much larger VW. That failed bid eventually resulted in the reverse coming true - VW swallowing Porsche.
The charges leveled by Stuttgart prosecutors come after a three-year investigation centered around allegations that Porsche execs made a concerted effort to increase the company's share in VW to 75 percent in preparation for a hostile takeover. Porsche had previously told its investors on at least five occasions that it had no intention to buy VW.
Portions of the investigation have subsided, according to prosecutors, citing an inability to prove certain improprieties with a "necessary degree of certainty." The number of charges is down to 5 from a previous 14 counts regarding "information-based market manipulation."
