1988 Porsche 924 S

Mileage: 124300

Title status: Clear

Price: $2900

The Good:

This vehicle was purchased several months ago from the original owner

The previous owner used it as a daily driver for his wife so it was well maintained

Recent new battery

A/C works as do all other engine accessories

Higher-output 944-based engine compared to the earlier 924 non-S

Already a classic; this was the last year of production for the 924 S so it had more power than earlier S models

Suspension and other upgrades from the 944 model were installed from the factory

Excellent weight balance front and rear for superb handling

Extensive service records are available and to be included with the sale of the car

Tires are in great shape. They are mounted on the factory “phone-dial” wheels.

Comes with two Haynes repair manuals

The Bad:

Hood and trunk struts need replacement

There is some rust on the car, especially the rear valance and near the rear license plate

Paint is faded in some areas

Handbrake is in-operable

Wipers work but do not switch off completely sometimes.  I suspect a bad switch or relay

Cracked dash

Passenger window switch on driver's side is intermittent

May need timing belt/balance shaft replacement.  Previous owner said it was done but he did not have documentation to prove it

Here is a brief summary on these cars from Wikipedia:

“In 1988, the 924S' final year of production, power increased to 160 bhp (119 kW; 162 PS) matching that of the previous year's Le Mans spec cars and the base model 944 (itself detuned by 3 bhp (2 kW; 3 PS) for 1988). This was achieved using different pistons which raised the S' compression ratio from 9.7:1 to 10.2:1, the knock-on effect being an increase in the octane rating, up from 91 RON to 95. This made the 924S slightly faster than the base 944 due to its lighter weight and more aerodynamic body.”

Porsche 356 Outlaw is the other Continental

Wed, 25 Jun 2014

In Porsche parlance, 'outlaw' basically means 'hot rod,' and that definition can vary from person to person. For Jack Griffin and his 1955 Porsche 356 Continental, it means taking a great car to start with and reworking it to become a classic coupe that fits its driver perfectly. The latest video from Petrolicious highlights Griffin's 356 and all of the personalization he has in the beautiful ride.
Griffin acquired this 356 in 1994, but it came in rough shape. That made it the perfect canvas to transform the coupe into the Porsche of his dreams. On the outside, only things like the hood-mounted fuel filler, louvered decklid and Fuchs wheels give it away as something special, but underneath, it is modernized to be a faster, more robust car. Griffin considers it "a piece of art on wheels."
Hearing the Continental name associated with Griffin's Porsche might be throwing you, since it's normally more associated with Lincoln, but Griffin tells the whole story of what makes it so special on his '55 in the video. Scroll down to get an automotive history lesson and check out this fantastic 356 hot rod.

Porsche Exclusive showcases custom-order 911 Turbo Cabrio

Sun, 06 Apr 2014

Porsche is one of the most profitable automakers in the business. In fact, it's said to make about $23,000 on each car it sells, thanks in no small part to an options list that can send the sticker price accelerating quicker than one of its own sports cars. But there are always those for whom even the extensive option list won't be enough, and for just such customers, there is Porsche Exclusive.
The division in Zuffenhausen is tasked with creating even more individualized examples of Porsche vehicles, and it recently did up this 911 Turbo Cabriolet - which, at $160,700, is already one of the most expensive Porsches you can order this side of a 918 Spyder: more than any Boxster, Cayman, Macan or Cayenne, any Panamera other than a Turbo S or Executive - not to mention any other 911 short of a Turbo S.
This particular demo vehicle features a Slate Grey paint job and red interior decked out in more leather than an S&M dungeon - which, come to think of it, would probably be less financially painful than ordering up this car from Porsche Exclusive.

Corvette gets slidey with Britain's best performance cars

Sat, 18 Oct 2014

Autocar wants to find Britain's best driver's car, and it's challenging a murderers' row of some of the world's best performance vehicles to find out, including the latest Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. All of them were therefore assembled at the Castle Combe Circuit to find a winner.
If it wants to take the crown from this pack of mostly European competitors, the 'Vette has to beat some steep competition. Its challengers include monsters like the Ferrari 458 Speciale, Ariel Atom 3.5R and Jaguar F-Type Coupe. As a further hurdle for the winner to clear, Autocar also has last year's champ among the fighters - the Porsche 911 GT3.
Even if you're not at all interested in the C7, there's still something here for practically any fan of fast cars. The competitors include relative oddities among the pack like the Renault Mégane RS Trophy and Alfa Romeo 4C. Plus, Autocar has some well-positioned microphones that let you hear the Atom wailing like a banshee and the roar of the 458 Speciale. Check out the video to see which one of these all-stars takes home the award this year.
