My  Story:   Alright, here's the story and I'm sticking to it.  I had a 1982 928 which I sold about 5 weeks ago to purchase this this 1987 928.  The previous owner was a gentleman from Boston, Massachusetts.  He was sellling the car on ebay just about 5 weeks ago.  He bought the car from the owners in Texas about a year before (his story from his Ebay listing is below).

Anyway, I fly to Boston and met this guy and he's basically a RedSox version of me. Likes cars, watches, and nice things.  He was very forthright with me, picked me up at the airport, delivered the car and I drove it back from Mass to Texas, 2000 miles.  The car rode beautifully and I was thoroughly impressed. I intended to keep this 928 and immediately contacted Sean Ratts (if you're a Rennlister you know who he is) and Sean gave it a look over for me.  He gave it two thumbs up.  That made me feel good. So I had the a/c charged and we talked about some repairs that I would do in the coming months, including replacing the motor mounts.  That was pretty much all we could see was visibily needed.  The car has just over 44k miles.

Anyway, last week the Boston guy calls me and tells me that the Porsche 911 4S he bought from an enthusiast in California is up for sale. The 4S has a GT3 package and had a list price of $122k.  He asked if I wanted it, so I said "yes" if I can sell this 928 and my 2002 911 4s.  You will see my 911 4S also is up for sale.

So the ONLY and I MEAN ONLY reason I am selling my 928 is because this damn 911 4S he has is so incredibly sweet and I can't afford to have both cars (plus the other two I have).

WHAT YOU GET:  You get the car as it currently sits with the original  chrome wheels in the pic with fairly new tires (less than 3000 miles).  The car is Venitian Blue, with blue interior.

This car rides so smoothly and has zero vibration in the wheels or braking.  It is very quite with the exception of a little vibration in the dash when you take off (hence the need for new motor mounts). The other repairs Sean and I discussed were things to do while you had the engine off the mounts, i.e., oil pan gasket, etc...

Because I intended to keep this 928,  last month I contacted Rob Budd at Classic Nine Leathers and ordered a newly recovered dash and pod.  They are scheduled to arrive today (june 7).  I paid $1600 for both.  Receipts will be provided.  They have not been installed as of yet.  You will have to have that done.

So you get the car in the pics, with a new dash and pod recover in blue.  The car has ordinary wear and tear, but I feel it is necessary to state the obvious. This car is being old AS IS, WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY.  And while the old owner gave me a bunch of receipts, the car is 26 years old and almost every part on it is 26 years old!  Sounds silly for me to say that, but for some folks I guess you have to say it.

Porsche 928s are beautiful, beautiful cars.  They ride incredibly well. I want to keep this car, but I need the cash from the sale of this one and the other 911 to buy Boston guy's 911 4S.

Lastly, I have a detailed listing from Park Place Porsche in Dallas where the car was serviced by the 1st owner (a 60 year old woman).

Boston Guys Story:  (from his Ebay sale to me 6 weeks ago).

Selling my 1987 Porsche 928S4. This is basically a ONE OWNER car that was purchased in February of 2012 from the original owner in Texas. It was owned by a wealthy woman who bought it new for her 60th birthday! Car has original 43,XXX mileage. The car is in perfect running condition and drives like new, no rattles or shakes, accelerates great and stops perfectly straight. It is well equipped and does have the rare rear AC system.

Although it was always garaged and mileage is low, I have went through this entire car over the past year doing thousands of dollars worth of needed things, both cosmetically and mechanically. I have all the reciepts for the work performed and it has had all the major maintenance done such as timing belts and rollers, oil pan gasket, complete tune up, CV boots and other miscellaneous things. Additionally, I went through the interior, steering wheel has been restored(stitching let go), front  seats reupholstered using highest materials from Classic 9(drivers seat was worn and couldn't match perfectly). Car is all stock with the exception of the stereo, it has been upgraded with an Alpine unit that is very correct looking along with the addition of an alpine amplifier and very nice high end speakers that fit perfectly in the factory locations and look correct using factory grills. Car presently has brand new 19" wheels and tires as you can see in the pictures. I also have the factory wheels which happen to be the rare factory chrome versions of the flat style wheels, tires are new on the factory wheels. Mechanically the car is 98% perfect, not that I know what the 2% is that it needs, but nothing is ever perfect. Cosmetically the car is 95% perfect on the exterior, one or two minor blemishes/scratches as you might suspect, the interior is 95% perfect as well, the only thing that doesn't look "new" is the dash which does have small cracks but nothing that distracts from the cars overall quality.

I presently have a moderate car collection which includes amongst other cars, three Porsches. If I were to compare this car to a BRAND NEW car I would give the exterior a 7/10, interior 8/10 and mechanics a 9/10. Compared to other 928's of this vintage 1987-1990, this car is by far a superior example in terms of both overall condition and necessity for maintence and upkeep expenditures. As you likely know, you can buy one of these cars for $7k with 100k+ miles on it and then spend $5k+ to make it anything close to "nice", and you still have a car worth $8k because of the high mileage. I have spared no expense in buying, maintaning, restoring or anything for this car. Selling as I need to reduce the collection and focus on other priorities.

Porsche drivers escape this horrific VIR crash unscathed

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

There is no doubting the fact that it takes nerves of steel to be a racecar driver, but the same can also be said for motorsports photographers. Case in point: The American Le Mans Series Oak Tree Grand Prix at the Virginia International Raceway where two Porsche 911 racecars crash hard into the tire barrier, but the dedicated cameraman stays with the shot - diving away only at the last second just as the battered No. 31 car (shown above) comes to rest atop the tire barriers just feet from where he was standing.
The crash occurred when the two Porsches charged hard into a corner. Judging by the video, the white No. 48 car appears to not see the orange No. 31 and the two cars make contact, skidding off track hitting the tire barriers at a high rate of speed. Both drivers walked away from the frightening crash, but the video - posted below - shows just how bad things could have been. Hopefully the close call will serve as a lesson for the woman standing in the track marshal's post who has her back to the racing as the two cars barrel directly toward her.

Porsche Cayenne shows a bit more face, plug-in spotted

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

Porsche was first rumored to be working on a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Cayenne over a year ago. However, we had never seen it, until now. The new model was caught almost completely undisguised while testing. In another stroke of luck, we got a glimpse of the upcoming facelift for Porsche's SUV (pictured above) as well.
According to the spy shooter, it was windy during the cars' cold weather testing. The cover blew off of the facelifted Cayenne, and there was enough time to snap these pictures before it could be hidden again. The changes are all quite minor but jive with what we saw the last time it was spied. The rear still wears some cladding but is expected to be hiding lights similar to the Macan.
The second gallery shows off the upcoming Cayenne PHEV. It looks nearly identical to the standard model, except for the extra panel on the driver's side of the car that hides the electric port. One image even shows the car plugged in. The new version is expected to use the same supercharged 3.0-liter V6 and 9.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack with a combined 416 horsepower and 435 pound-feet of torque from the Panamera S E-Hybrid. We enjoyed the system when we tested it last year. It's rumored to debut on the SUV sometime this year.

Porsche 911: Big in Taiwan

Fri, 09 Aug 2013

Porsche is continuing celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of its iconic 911. In its latest video, it's gone to Taiwan, to interview some of the folks that have grown passionate about the rear-engined sportscar over the years.
By and large, the views expressed in this video could have come from anywhere in the world. The 911 is a great car and that doesn't change from country to country. These enthusiasts have the same passion that fans in England, the United States or Germany have for the Carrera. Take a look below at the full video, to see what the 911 enthusiasts of Taiwan love about their 911s.
