1987 Porsche 928s4 Conversion With A 4.8l Vortec Engine. on 2040-cars
Stillwater, Oklahoma, United States
I originally bought this car as a daily driver and drove it approx. 4 yrs. before a catastrophic TBF, caused by a faulty water pump. The Porsche engine suffered numerous bent valves and most likely additional engine damage. Not being motivated to have the engine repaired, the car was then parked in my barn, where it remained for 8 yrs. During this time, being that the barn was in the country, numerous rodents made their home inside the car, making the electrical wiring and most of the carpet their prime means of sustenance. I decided to attempt to get the car back on the road about 2 1/2 years ago. Rather than dealing with the expense and maintenance nightmare the damaged Porsche engine would have presented, it was removed and the GM engine was installed (by a reputable 944\928 conversion specialist in the Dallas area). The damaged carpeting was also removed. In the last 2 1/2 years, I've put approx.1500 miles on the GM engine with no problems.
The present state of the various systems is as follows: Working: Power Windows Gauges Radio Lights Alarm No engine oil leaks. No cooling system leaks. Not Working: Odometer Power Seats Cruise Control Air Conditioner (The GM compressor is installed, but the Porsche head unit won't power it.) Sunroof Central Warning System Central Locking System (can be locked and armed with the key) Inside Hatch release. The steering rack has been leaking since I bought the car and needs to be rebuilt. I am leaving any additional repairs to the next owner, and I am not motivated to ship it, so it is being sold as is, where is. I have tried to state the most complete and honest representation of the condition, as well as my history with the car, and with a motivated owner, could be driven daily in comfort and class once again! |

Driving 50 years of Porsche 911 history
Fri, 06 Sep 2013Raiding The Porsche Museum For A Fun Track Day
It seems everyone is celebrating anniversaries this year: it's Aston's hundredth, Lamborghini's fiftieth, Ford Mustang's fiftieth, Chevy Corvette's sixtieth - and Tesla just turned ten or something. It's been a little out of hand, frankly, all these forced marketing festivities, but if we had to pick one milestone to really celebrate hard and party all night, the Porsche 911 would be at the top of our list.
Get ready for a major 911 blowout bash at next week's Frankfurt Motor Show. It was on September 12 back in 1963 at this very show where Porsche unveiled its "901" painted in a rather boring shade of beige. Though drably finished, the car caused a worldwide frenzy in the budding German sports car sphere.
Car companies may need to start curbing model proliferation
Mon, 17 Nov 2014Looking at the current automotive landscape, especially from German makers, you quickly get the impression that less definitely isn't more. BMW alone offers its 3 Series platform in practically every segment possible, including the regular sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, which would seem to be direct competitors. Porsche might be the winner, though, with 20 different variants of the 911 listed for sale on its US website. However, some of this model madness might be reaching an end as companies begin cutting back spending or shifting money to other priorities.
According to Yahoo Finance, the offerings from the German automakers are up 25 percent over the past three years to over 200 models in Europe. The peak is expected to come around 2018 at 230 separate vehicles, according to consulting company PwC.
Amazingly, BMW, which is among the poster children for this model explosion, might be changing its tune. "I'm sure there will be points in the future where we look at certain cars and say, 'Maybe we need to think differently now,'" said head of sales Ian Robertson in an interview, according to Yahoo Finance. The statement certainly sounds shocking coming from a company rumored to have 23 front-wheel-drive vehicles all using a single platform on the way.
MotorWeek proves '90s were awesome with Supra, Stealth, RX-7, Corvette, 968, 300ZX comparo
Thu, 24 Jul 2014Oh, the heady days of 1993, back when the Clinton Presidency was just getting underway, and it seemed like every hot new rock band was coming out of Seattle. Sports cars in the US had finally shaken off the shackles that slowed them during the '70s and '80s, and you could buy any number of legitimately quick vehicles again. MotorWeek recently went digging into its archives to find this six-model test from 1993 showing off some of the best semi-affordable performance coupes that money could buy at the time, and it's priceless.
Featuring the 1994 model year Toyota Supra in twin-turbo guise and MY 1993 versions of the Porsche 968, Nissan 300ZX TT, Mazda RX-7, Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo and Chevrolet Corvette LT-1, MotorWeek definitely covered all of the bases. One thing that might surprise younger readers is these cars' performance. The video only provides 0-60 acceleration times, but several of these vehicles would still be considered pretty potent today - over 20 years since going on sale. The Supra is especially impressive, hitting 60 miles per hour in just 5 seconds. Even today, that's nothing to sneeze at.
Given their performance potential and still-attractive looks, it's amazing that some of these coupes are old enough to drink now. The progress of interior design and safety equipment in the intervening years is pretty shocking, though. In most of these models, having two airbags is touted as a big deal. Scroll down to watch a Throwback Thursday blast from the past about some of the '90s best sports cars.
