Pristine '88 928 S4.  Vehicle always Garaged and looks it.  Runs strong and smooth.  Only two owners in 25 years.

**  Timing Belt and Water Pump replaced at 49k miles, adjusted soon after and again at 59k
**  A/C works - R134 converted
**  Interior Looks great - No cracks at all in dash.  Leather seats are excellent - some very light wear on driver's seat bolster, but no tears.
**  Motor Mounts replaced at 50k - much smoother ride, less vibration
**  Interior has been updated with Analog Clock, Momo Steering Wheel and Momo shifter
**  Some Performance Improvements - Original Owner had GT cams put in.  I matched them with a GT chip to smooth out the idle and acceleration.  Linkages and Kick Down switch altered for 1st gear starts (928 Auto Trans often starts in 2nd).  I'm 61 y.o.; I don't hot rod, but I like the car to move briskly from a stop.
**  Flex Plate adjustment 4,000 miles ago
**  Headlights pop up and work
**  ROH rims and Fulda tires (have aggressive tread pattern that looks great)

+++++  Important Note ++++++  The AutoCheck report shows a mistaken mileage reading.  On 11/27/05 the car failed emissions inspection for the 3rd time that month.  Mileage was correctly entered as 53,814.  That night I replaced the oxygen sensor and the car passed the next day, 11/28/05.  Unfortunately, that day the inspector entered an "8" instead of a "5" so it shows 83,853 instead of 63,853.  I did not notice this at the time.  Two years later the same car, same inspector entered 58,711 (correctly).

I will post the inspection reports, both correct and incorrect, along with the pictures.

New details mooted about Porsche's '988' Ferrari rival

Tue, 08 Jul 2014

We could be on the verge of a big expansion at everyone's favorite rear-engined German sports car manufacturer. Porsche is allegedly preparing a four-car assault that will be led by a proper challenger to the Ferrari 458 Italia (sorry 911).
Code-named "988," the new model will reportedly feature a mid-engined layout and, get this: a flat-8. Autocar, which has the story, expects that engine to displace about 4.0 liters, while the car itself will draw styling inspiration from the 918 Spyder. 600 ponies and over 400 super-accessible pound-feet of torque should be on tap with the new mill.
Joining the 988's supposed eight-cylinder is a new family of four- and six-cylinder boxer engines that Autocar claims will have a focus on power density and fuel economy. These new mills will be available in naturally aspirated, turbocharged and hybrid forms.

Leno, Seinfeld and a Porsche 356/2 featured in latest CICGC

Sun, 19 Jan 2014

In the latest kaffeeklatsch known as Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Jerry Seinfeld pulls Jay Leno out of his garage for a trip to Jones Coffee in Pasadena, CA. The NBC funnyman we've lately seen driving two guest Porsches in his eponymous garage this time takes the passenger seat in a 1949 Porsche 356/2, one of early all-aluminum, hand-built coupes - still in 100-percent original condition - built in Gmund, Austria and nicknamed "Gmunds."
The comedy veterans have known one another for 35 years, so the episode is rich with stories of The Good Old Days. Leno says it is also the first time he's ever had a cup of coffee, and for obvious comedic reasons they start with the civet-stained beans made famous in The Bucket List. You can watch Leno take his first sip below, and have you haven't heard the joke about the goat and the anvil, scroll on down for a listen to that and one or two more jokes besides.

Petrolicious explores long-term living with Porsche's 914/6

Thu, 15 May 2014

After its last video starred none other than the spectacular Ferrari 250 GTO, where was there for the video team at Petrolicious to go? Certainly, in the realm of classics, there are only a few other vehicles that can match the badge and pedigree of the ultra-rare Ferrari. Maybe a Jaguar D-Type or an Aston Martin DBR1? No, this latest video doesn't star either of those British icons. It stars an oft-misunderstood, occasionally derided entry from Germany's most sporting manufacturer - Porsche.
Yes, we've gone from a Ferrari 250 GTO to a Porsche 914/6. As is often the case with Petrolicious, though, the story told about the car by its owner are often more important than the make or model of car being highlighted. That's exactly the case here, as Jack Griffin talks about the 38 years he's spent with this particular Porsche.
Having been born into the Volkswagen fold and introduced to Porsche in the best way possible - behind the wheel of a 356 - Griffin has some interesting stories (including his attempt at running the 12 Hours of Sebring), and he knows a fair bit about some of the 914's attributes.
