1987 Porsche 944 White Sunroof Coupe With 54,300 Original Miles!!! on 2040-cars

Year:1987 Mileage:54300
Location:

Weston, Massachusetts, United States

Weston, Massachusetts, United States

1987 Porsche 944 with 54,300 original miles, 5 speed manual, classic sunroof coupe.  White on burgundy leather with phone dial wheels, power everything.  We bought it with 10,650 miles on it in 1992 and have owned it ever since.  This car has been driven sparingly during the summer months and has been always maintained, always garaged, always babied, never raced, never seen snow or salt even though it spent its entire live in New England.  Serviced at the same Porsche specialist shop last 15 yrs.  Car was fully optioned when new and is completely original down to the Blaupunkt radio/cassette player, except for the following:
  • Burgundy pinstriping was applied when new – real paint, not stick-on.
  • Yokohama tires have less than 5K miles on them.
  • Ungo alarm was installed originally.
  •  MacNeil rear hatch tray (original carpeting is excellent underneath)

See the many photos for details.  The car is very clean, but the following wear and tear is noted:

  • Typical front end nicks for its mileage, always touched up
  • Pinstriping on front end is worn, see photos
  • Steering wheel stitching starting to unravel in high wear spot and could use restitching there
  • One small ding on windshield (that we’ve lived with for many miles)
  • Intermittent wiper function doesn’t work, probably a relay
  • One very slight parking lot dent on left front fender, only visible at glancing angle in the right light, less than 2” long (tried to capture it in photos)
  • Car had door edge guards mounted when new.  Those have been removed and stainless steel screws put in the mounting holes

The car runs and drives fabulously with all the handling that 944’s are known for.  Since last season, a slight vibration in left front tire at about 70 mph suggests that tire might need rebalancing.  Payment by bank check only.  Shipping is at buyer's expense and risk. Please see the many photos and ASK ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING!

Porsche undecided on new 911 GT2 [w/poll]

Thu, 23 Jan 2014

Fans of hardcore 911s had it pretty good with the last 997 generation. There was the GT3, GT3 RS, GT3 RS 4.0, GT2 and GT2 RS (pictured above). Each one was faster, more powerful and more expensive than the one below it, but what they all shared was what Porsche purists love most: rear engine, rear drive, a manual transmission and little else.
So far with the new 991, Porsche has only released a GT3 version. Sure, there have been other models, but they're all decidedly more luxurious and less performance-focused. And as impressive a machine as the new GT3 is, it has run the risk of alienating some of its most ardent fanatics with technological interference in the form of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and four-wheel steering. So what those purists have really been looking forward to is a more hardcore GT3 RS or new GT2. But those may not be coming so quickly.
Speaking with 911 project chief August Achleitner, Car and Driver reports that a new GT2 is anything but a foregone conclusion. The reasons may be partially political, but could be technical in nature as well: with 560 horsepower driving all four wheels, the new 911 Turbo S runs the 0-60 in less than three seconds. Give it more power but less traction, as Porsche has done with past GT2s, and you may not end up seeing an actual improvement in performance. A GT2 that's slower than the Turbo S would be difficult to explain.

Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R Nismo star in World's Greatest Drag Race 4

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

We love Motor Trend's annual World's Greatest Drag Race video. Now back for its fourth appearance, the idea of lining some of the world's fastest cars up for a ten-wide, straight-line, full-throttle run is, well... it's pretty freaking badass.
The lineup this year boasts some impressively fast cars to be sure. The group of ten includes the following darlings: Alfa Romeo 4C, BMW i8, BMW M4, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Ford Fiesta ST, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Subaru WRX STI and, last but not least, the Volkswagen GTI. Give us any one of those for the weekend, and we're happy to take the keys.
It must be said though, that for a publication that draws as much water as Motor Trend does, there are some big cars that we might expect to be here instead. The Lamborghini Huracán or Ferrari 458 Speciale would have added some exotic flare to the list, and the omissions of the Chevy Corvette Stingray (for the second year in a row) and the Dodge Challenger Hellcat are real head-scratchers.

Porsche inspecting 2,500 Euro-spec Macans for damaged brake boosters

Thu, 29 May 2014

Porsche is investigating a potential brake issue with 2,500 of its new Macan CUVs. The inspection focuses on the state of the brake systems following tests that discovered the brake boosters may have been damaged during assembly.
Porsche has pointed out that, despite the concern, the affected Macans still meet safety regulations. The issue is predominantly found in European-spec Macans, which according to Porsche, have been delivered to consumers. Owners of affected vehicles in Europe will be notified and asked to come in for a brief, no-cost inspection.
American consumers, though, have no reason to worry. We reached out to Porsche Cars North America, who confirmed that the vehicles in question were assembled before US-spec cars were screwed together.
