2003 Saab 9-3 Arc (108k Miles) Being Sold To Benefit Shoe4africa on 2040-cars
New York, New York, United States
I am selling my 2003 Saab 9-3 in to benefit a charity
that I support.
The Charity Shoe4Africa is a 501c3 charity that supports many effective health and education programs in eastern Africa and is currently tackling our most ambitious project to date; building the first public pediatric hospital in sub-Saharan Africa. This project seeks to address the woefully deficient basic health care needs in a region that is vastly underserved:
Groundbreaking on the hospital has begun and the process of raising money to pay for the construction and hospital equipment continues. If you are moved to help us and need a car, please read on! The Car 2003 Saab 9-3 (ARC) with 108K miles. The car is well equipped with amenities (6 disk CD changer, moon roof, power heated leather seats etc) and is in very good shape. There are a few minor scratches in the paint as you would expect with a 10 year old car but it looks good and drives well. I am the original owner (and have a clean title) and have taken good care of the car performing all scheduled maintenance and oil changes. The only know defects are:
Other than these two minor items, the car is fun to drive and gets good mileage. The car currently has the winter tires and rims installed. Also included are a set of alloy rims and tires in good condition, and the Thule roof rack system with bicycle rails and a Thule SportRack Roof Box. Why am I selling the car When I moved back to NYC a few years ago, it quickly became obvious that I really do not need a car any longer. NYC has excellent public transportation and bicycle infrastructure that makes getting around without a car quite convenient and easy. As a result, the car spends most of its time in a garage and is driven only a few times per month. While it is nice to have a car for the convenience, I am aware that it is an extravagance that is unnecessary. At the same time I enjoy the convenience of having my Saab, I support a charity that is building a pediatric hospital for those who have zero access to health care. I have come to realize that my convenience is considerably less important than the basic needs of children in eastern Africa. It is with this thought that I am donating my car to help fund the hospital. 100% of the purchase price of this car will go directly to the charity. |

National Electric Vehicle stops Saab 9-3 production amidst financing woes
Tue, 20 May 2014It seems that quirky, Swedish automaker Saab might be on life support yet again. Its owner, National Electric Vehicle Sweden, has announced that it's reducing its workforce and temporarily halting production of the 9-3 due to financial problems. NEVS was only building six cars a day, anyway.
The company put out a press release admitting its economic woes, but it still appeared hopeful. NEVS claims it's developing "a new platform on the Phoenix architecture," and it has a frame agreement with an international automotive OEM. It didn't give any specific details about either one of these assertions though. According to The Wall Street Journal, NEVS needs the partnership to lower development costs in order to stay afloat. Saab spokesperson Mikael Ostlund told Autoblog in an email that the stop in production of the 9-3 in Trollhättan would last four weeks.
NEVS says it's in negotiation to sell a portion of the company to an automotive company. Its current monetary woes are caused by shareholder Qingbo Investment Company not financing the company as agreed. "We plan to have the results of the discussions at latest during June," said Ostlund.
Spyker's $3B lawsuit against GM for blocking Saab sale thrown out
Tue, 11 Jun 2013US District Judge Gershwin Drain has dismissed a $3-billion lawsuit Spyker filed against General Motors. In the suit, Spyker accused GM of attempting to bankrupt Saab after the US automaker had already sold the company to Spyker. GM in effect blocked the sale of Saab to China's Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile Company by prohibiting the transfer of some of its intellectual property. But the court found that GM had a "contractual right" to approve or disapprove any change of ownership. Furthermore, Reuters reports Judge Drain said the contract between GM and Spyker "is clear, unambiguous and absolute" on the matter.
GM, meanwhile, says it is pleased with the ruling. Spyker CEO Victor Muller has not said whether or not his company will appeal the ruling. The Dutch automaker is expected to make a final decision once the court issues its written order on the case.

NEVS completes Saab purchase, earns right to brand name but not griffin badge
Mon, 03 Sep 2012
According to the Associated Press, a Hong Kong-based concern is close to building new Saab models. After some delays, National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) has completed the purchase of bankrupt Swedish automaker Saab.
NEVS says it plans to debut an electric vehicle in about 18 months. When the car comes to market, it will wear the Saab name, but not the marque's well-known griffin logo. Reuters reports that the company will produce EVs based on the Saab 9-3 platform, with intentions to sell these vehicles primarily in the Chinese market. Due to the continued use of the distinctive griffin head logo by commercial truckmaker Scania and the Saab aerospace group, NEVS was only granted access to the Saab name, not its emblem.
