2005 Saab 9-3 Linear Sedan 4-door 2.0l - Transmission Work Needed on 2040-cars

Year:2005 Mileage:164000
Location:

Oreland, Pennsylvania, United States

Oreland, Pennsylvania, United States

For sale is my 2005 Saab 9-3 Linear 4-door sedan.  I bought the car in 2005 and am the only owner.  The car was used 99% for work.  Over the past 3 weeks, I could feel some difference in the shifting in low gears.  The warning "gearbox failure" came on about 2 weeks ago and I was told that the car most likely needs transmission work.  I've read that a computer update might fix the problem, but don't bid based upon that.  Assume that transmission work is needed.  The car can still be driven, but has bumping in low gear.  As indicated in the "defects" section above, the coolant also has a very slow leak.  A small windshield chip was professionally repaired.  The bottom of the front bumper is cracked (see picture).  I took pictures of 2 small dings and a missing silver piece from the front grille...not sure what was there.  There are some missing plastic bumper clips and clips under the hood...nothing that affects performance.  About a month ago, there was wetness on the passenger side floor mat after it rained like crazy...I think from leaves between windshield and hood.  One key fab partially works.  The 2nd key fab shows wear on the rubber, but works fine.  Keys within the fabs are in fine shape.  Obviously there is other wear associated with 164K, but I listed everything I can think of.

Now for the positive.  The car has new Continental Extreme DWS 215/55/ZR16 tires with only 3K on them (see installation papers vs. car mileage).
The car has performed very well for me for 164K up to the transmission issue.  I have all records of oil changes, tire rotations, maintenance, etc.  The rims are the ones that came with the Aero...not the linear.  I'm not sure why they were put on my car, unless it was an upgrade for the dealer.   I recently replaced both front headlight fixtures (entire assembly) and the AC/heat blower motor and blower motor resistor.  I knew before I bought the car that I didn't like the stereo.  The day after I bought the car, I tapped the bass amp under the front seat and added a 2nd amp in the trunk(see pictures).  I replaced all dashboard speakers (sides with Infiniti, center channel I'm forgetting what I put in).  I also added 4 new speakers across the rear shelf.  In the pictures, you'll see two 6x9 Cerwin Vega speakers and I can't remember what brand the 2 center speakers are.  The only speakers not changed out are the 2 front door speakers.

If you know anything about transmissions, this may be the car for you.  You are welcome to see or drive the car...a short distance due to the warning light.  Please take a look at my feedback and let me know if I can answer any questions.  I will accept Paypal or cash payment.  We'll exchange title and do tags 5 minutes from Oreland, PA.

On Jan-22-14 at 09:55:35 PST, seller added the following information:

The car has been sitting in my driveway for 2-3 weeks and I just tried to start it.  I had to jump start it.  The battery may need to be replaced...or it may just be the extreme weather we are experiencing.  Not sure, but wanted to add this, as it just came up.

GM recalling 250,000 SUVs over door electronics

Mon, 20 Aug 2012

After a door-fire investigation that dates back to February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially announced a recall today that affects around 250,000 General Motors SUVs for a faulty driver's door module. The recall applies to the Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X from the 2006 and 2007 model years, as well as the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL for vehicles sold and/or registered in the Snow Belt.
Road salt use in these midwestern and northern states can lead to corrosion of the driver's door module on these GMT360 and GMT370 vehicles, which allows water to come in contact with the circuit board. If shorted out, the vehicle's power door locks and power windows will not work, and could possibly lead to overheating and, in some circumstances, a fire. No official word on how many total vehicles caught on fire, but back in June, 28 fires had been reported to the government agency. A fix for the problem is still being worked out, but all affected vehicle owners will be notified by GM.

GM denies Spyker claims in $3B Saab lawsuit

Tue, 02 Oct 2012

Reuters reports General Motors has dismissed claims by Spyker outlined in a $3 billion lawsuit. Spyker alleged GM deliberately bankrupted Saab by preventing a deal with Chinese investor Zhejiang Youngman Lotus. GM, meanwhile, filed a response with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan saying that as the former owner of Saab, GM had the legal right to approve the deal with Youngman. But Spyker's lawsuit claimed GM's refusal to approve the deal with Youngman stemmed from the fact that the American automaker didn't want to create a competitor in China.
GM has said the issue stemmed more from the fact that it would stop licensing its technology to Saab or stop building vehicles for the manufacturer in the event it was bought by Youngman. Since Saab built its own platform that didn't use any GM tech, Spyker says that argument is meritless.
The lawsuit has Spyker seeking $3 billion in compensatory damages, though that number could swell with interest, punitive damages and legal fees, as well. Victor Muller, Spyker chief executive, has said the lawsuit is being funded by an anonymous third party. That party will share in any settlement. Youngman has refused to comment on whether or not it's footing the legal bill.

Saab US bankruptcy plan gets legal green-light

Thu, 18 Jul 2013

It feels utterly bizarre that we're still talking about Saab, but Reuters is reporting that the bankrupt Swedish manufacturer's American arm has gotten approval from the US Bankruptcy Court to liquidate its assets and pay back creditors. As part of the plan, secured creditors like Ally Financial will receive full repayment. Unsecured creditors, consisting of those affected by abandoned leases and contracts will get anywhere from 25 to 82 percent of their money back.
There are currently $77 million in unsecured claims, according to Reuters, but that number doesn't include claims from former Saab dealers. Naturally, the entire affair is full of lawyers and legalese. A trust formed on the Saab side will be negotiating with creditors and their affiliates in an attempt to reduce claims against Saab. This sounds like the start of a long and sordid affair...
