Up for sale is my 2008 Saab 9-5 Sport Combi wagon with 58,784 miles (subject to change as I drive the car from time to time). It is fully loaded with the exception of factory nav. It has 6 CD player, MP3 port, heated/ventilated front seats and heated rear seats, auto trans with paddle shifters, sunroof, 17 inch wheels tires...  lots more.

The car was purchased at Bluegrass Motorsport in Louisville KY as a demo and promptly shipped to Germany when/where I moved.  It was operated there until this past Oct when it returned.  It was service only by Autohaus Dechent Opel/Saab in Heidelberg, GE and and AutoHaus Darge, Kindsbach, GE. I did most of the oil changes myself using Mobil 1 (no lie).

The car had new pads and rotors installed at 49K, new rear wiper, a new battery in 2011, a new throttle body in 2010 (it turned out it wasn't the TB after all but moisture in the system), and minor paint work on the lower front when I snagged a piece of a metal pole sticking out the ground while parking.  The damage was to the paint in front and unfortunately the air box behind the front fascia both fixed by Autohaus Darge. The windshield was replaced due to a chip.  TUV (the German version of DOT) will no longer allow repairs so... it was replaced.  The 17" tires were new in 2010 and have about 65% tread left.
Everything on this car works as it should.  There are no mechanical issues whatsoever! The paint has a few scratches the most serious on the passenger front fender (a piece of wire tagged it... while parking... see a trend?  It's the 3/4 scale German parking spots... see pict) and the front edge of the hood has some very small paint chips (again, see pict of the area surrounding the front hood emblem). There's also some minor clear coat chips on the drivers side lower front fascia (it won't show in a photo).  Naturally a few swirls here and there but nothing you'd notice from 5 feet away.

Okay, for the best news.  If you hit the "Buy It Now" and successfully pay for it, you also get a full set (4 tires and wheels with lug nuts) of 18" MODA wheels and Sumitomo tires (used for about 8 months) (see picts)(these are from Tire Rack).  There is not a single rash on these wheels.  They were used on a 2007 Saab 9-3 convertible summers only and stored in plastic bags when not on the car.  There's no TPMS on either set (only on the 17 inch set on the car).
AND a full set of Dunlop Glaspic snow tires on steel rims (used two winters only)(from Tire Rack, as well) PLUS a set of roof rack bars and two roof mounted bicycle racks (neither ever used... from GM Europe in Germany)).  I have the manual for the bike racks and the rack and bars have locks with keys (See picts).

AGAIN, THIS DEAL ONLY APPLIES IF YOU HIT THE "BUY IT NOW" BUTTON.  Otherwise the winner gets the car and I have to sell the other stuff myself.

Again, this car has NO ISSUES.  It drives great and is my long distance trip car, getting 31 mpg if driven sanely.

Car has a clear title in my name and is ready to go. A $500 deposit secures via Paypal with with final payment via bank check or cashier check which must clear before the car will be released.  For anyone in KY, tags are current and taxes paid.
NADA is: Clean Retail- $14,825.00.  The reserve (minus the additional tires and rack) is less than that amount. KBB is $13,125-$12,325.

Happy bidding.

PS:  I'm not desperate to sell as it's not costing me anything other than driveway space AND contrary to some belief in non-Saab circles (this car is my eight or ninth Saab) you can get parts all day long.

NEVS announces 200 layoffs as it says Saab restart will 'take time'

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

For a fleeting moment a few weeks ago, the news from Saab-owner National Electric Vehicle Sweden appeared almost positive. The company had its reorganization plan approved (a day after it was denied), and the automaker was actually showing a real, running vehicle, albeit one with a top speed of 75 miles per hour. But those tiny crumbs of potential goodness have been swept away because NEVS has announced layoffs of as many as 200 factory employees in September "due to lack of work."
Workers probably shouldn't get too eager to return to the factory either, because company's "decision to re-start production will be further delayed" by an unspecified amount of time, NEVS says in a press release. To begin assembling cars again, the company needs to find long-term funding and a new majority owner. Those seem like two very steep hurdles for the embattled automaker to clear.
Despite not producing cars since May, NEVS still claims it's negotiating with a new owner, possibly Mahindra, but according to Reuters, the Swedish company owes about 400 million kronor ($56 million) to creditors. According to its layoff announcement, getting rid of these workers is one step in the business' reorganization plan to be presented on October 8. Scroll down to read its full release.

Saab begins 9-3 EV pilot production

Thu, 10 Apr 2014

To say that Saab has had a tough time lately would be like saying that it's been a little colder than usual this winter. After General Motors finally gave up and sold it to Spyker in 2010, Saab declared bankruptcy the following year. GM successfully blocked Spyker from selling Saab to Chinese automaker Youngman the following year, but ultimately it ended up in the hands of another Chinese consortium called NEVS. Standing as it does for National Electric Vehicle Sweden, the new owners promised not only to restart production of the long-suffering 9-3, but also to turn it into an electric vehicle. And that's just what it's doing.
The latest news coming out of Sweden indicates that NEVS/Saab has started building the first examples of the 9-3 EV. These first 200 or so examples are set to be shipped off to Qingdao - the Chinese city that is home to the Tsingtao brewery, hosted the sailing components of the 2008 summer games on Beijing, was supposed to host an IndyCar race in 2012 before it was canceled, and also itself just happens to own 22 percent of NEVS.
These first EVs have their batteries mounted down low in the chassis for a low center of gravity and have a range of about 20 miles on a full charge. That's absolutely paltry compared to the other EVs on the market: a Nissan Leaf will travel more than four times that distance, and a Tesla Model S will go ten times farther on a charge.

Saab US bankruptcy plan gets legal green-light

Thu, 18 Jul 2013

It feels utterly bizarre that we're still talking about Saab, but Reuters is reporting that the bankrupt Swedish manufacturer's American arm has gotten approval from the US Bankruptcy Court to liquidate its assets and pay back creditors. As part of the plan, secured creditors like Ally Financial will receive full repayment. Unsecured creditors, consisting of those affected by abandoned leases and contracts will get anywhere from 25 to 82 percent of their money back.
There are currently $77 million in unsecured claims, according to Reuters, but that number doesn't include claims from former Saab dealers. Naturally, the entire affair is full of lawyers and legalese. A trust formed on the Saab side will be negotiating with creditors and their affiliates in an attempt to reduce claims against Saab. This sounds like the start of a long and sordid affair...
