1992 92 Saab 900 Turbo S Hatchback on 2040-cars

Year:1992 Mileage:155274
Location:

I'm auctioning my 1992 Saab 900 S, LPT turbo 5 Speed. 155,274 miles, passes smog. Originally the naturally aspirated S model, I converted the car to a Turbo approximately 80,000 miles ago. (email me for more specifics if you want… 10.1:1 compression, 5-8 psi boost on 91 octane, manual boost control (no APC) Probably puts out somewhere around 170hp though capable of ALOT more - the car is my daily driver and I have had no interest in driving it aggressively or desiring more power... it is set up very conservatively). Original owner, purchased new in 92. Religiously maintained for its whole life. Many parts have been replaced with new ones over the years including a rebuilt transmission, fuel pump, radiator, head gasket/re-surfaced head, belts, headliner, headlights, Hall sensor, various other sensors, etc... Has Turbo model exhaust, clutch, fuel pressure regulator and injectors, exhaust. Equipped with Bilstein shocks and Intrax springs (lowered 1 inch). Also has had turbo replaced 3 times, most recently with the Mitsubishi TE-05 from a 93 900 turbo. Currently equipped with stock intercooler, though it used to have a front-mount intercooler installed - intercooler and all plumbing included if you want to put it back on! Has a bunch of little things that need work: leather pretty good but needs a lot of re-stitching, stereo speakers (all upgraded) need re-wiring, only one windshield wiper works, turn signal stalk broken/replaced with 3 way switch, horn buttons broke off (horn still operates). Needs windshield washer pump. There is one spot of rust around the right rear wheel well. Dashboard has some cracks in it. Leaks oil (out of the engine, not into it...) and power steering fluid (requires topping off once a month). It will need a new starter soon - the starter motor is good but the solenoid only engages a little once the engine is warm, requiring 2, sometimes 3 re-ignition attempts - it's not getting worse, I've been driving it like this for several months. May eventually need a new front right Inner Driver/Companion Flange: there is a little shimmy/low frequency vibration when the engine is under load at about 65mph - other speeds no vibration at all. Body has a few scratches and dings, nothing serious, and the clearcoat is peeling off the hood. Alignment is spot on - car tracks straight ahead if you take your hands off the wheel, though the right rear tire wears slightly more on the inside than the outside. Engine runs rock solid, no smoke, starts right up (assuming the solenoid engages:)) Transmission is rock solid, though "clicks" a little when reversing with foot off the throttle. It's a salvage title because insurance considered it totaled when someone bashed in a taillight! Taillight replaced, only a little trim is missing and there's a scratch on the hatch near that taillight.

Saab to hire 200 engineers, might build gas cars with Mahindra

Thu, 14 Jun 2012

The brand formerly known as Saab is still intent on teaching The Little Engine That Could a few ticks about persistence. We say "formerly known" because it turns out that National Electric Vehicle Swedent (NEVS), the Sino-Japanese investment consortium that just bought the majority of Saab's assets, minus Saab Automobile Parts AB, may not actually own the rights to the Saab brand name. According to a report in Di.se via Saabs United, NEVS will need to negotiate with Scania and the Swedish aerospace and defense group, Saab AB, for the right to name its forthcoming electric car the Saab 9-3.
NEVS is hiring 200 engineers now to work on its electric car program, and reports are that it will hire more as it gets closer to the 2014 launch. It will be based on the current (read: ancient) 9-3, and we hope NEVS is succeeds in getting the naming rights, because the NEVS 9-3 just doesn't have the same ring. NEVS will likely target China as the model's main market.
However, it's rumors of their second negotiating ploy that we're really rooting for: to work with Mahinda & Mahindra, the Indian company once in the running for Saab's assets, develop a petrol-powered 9-3 on the next-generation Phoenix platform, based on Jason Castriota's design.

Spyker and Youngman sign deal, plan to build D8 SUV and Phoenix-based range

Mon, 27 Aug 2012

It appears Spyker is strengthen its ties and carmaking ability with Chinese carmaker Youngman. This comes in the wake of the brand's latest dealings with a $3 billion lawsuit against General Motors regarding the demise of Saab.
Youngman is reportedly investing €10,000,000 ($12.5M USD) for a 29.9-percent stake in the company. The shares are being sold for €0.05 (6.3 cents) each, representing a fully diluted share. Youngman has said it will not take on more than the 29.9-percent stake.
Additionally, Youngman will invest €25,000,000 ($31M) for the development of an all-new Spyker vehicle, called the D8 P2P, named for the Peking-to-Paris rally. The vehicle had been shown as a concept by Spyker previously, but things had been quiet since then. It appears Spyker will now build the uniquely styled D8 Concept shown above. The vehicle is to launch at the end of 2014 and carry a price of $250,000 per vehicle.

GM recalls over 230,000 more Trailblazer-family SUVs over door electronics

Sun, 16 Jun 2013

Back in August, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall on the General Motors GMT360 SUVs (Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X) ranging from the 2005 to 2007 model years and the 2006 GMT370 SUVs (Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL) due to potential fires associated with the driver's door module. Initially limited to 250,000 units sold or registered in 20 Snow Belt states (and the District of Columbia), the recall has now been expanded to include an additional 193,000 of these SUVs in the US and, according to The Detroit News, 40,000 more sold outside the US, including Canada and Mexico.
Like the original recall, the issue is still a faulty driver's door module that can short out, which could lead to a fire. The Detroit News is reporting that, out of the 443,000 units being recalled, GM says that there were 58 fires that caused 11 minor injuries, and the expanded recall accounted for six fires and one injury. Despite the lower number of fires, the recall notice recommends that owners park their vehicles until the recall repairs has been performed.
On recalled units with functional modules, the repair consists of a protective coating being applied to the module, while vehicles with modules that are not working properly will have the driver's door module replaced. The official recall notice is posted below, and it includes contact information for customers of all five brands.
