You must tow this car away and fix it yourself. This car more than half it's life in California. While in the east coast, we rarely drove it in the snow.We have meticulously maintained this car by going only to Saab specialists. The hood, front quarter panels and rear quarter panel were re-painted a few years ago. The paint is in great shape overall. There are just a couple rust spots that are still below the paint's surface-minor and fixable.Tires have less than 10K miles on them. The interior is in very good shape- a small crack on the dash and some of the seams need mended. The cloth ceiling has been replaced and is perfect. The car is currently parked outside at Shaftsbury Saab, 1594 Route 7A, Shaftsbury, Vermont. Feel free to drive by and look at it and talk to them about it."

This car is in great shape and has treated us well since 2005. We are the 3rd owners. It has spent most of it's life in California. It would be a shame to send this car to a junkyard. Hopefully, there is a Saab aficionado out there somewhere who will help keep this car alive!

NEVS mulling electric Saab 9-3 convertible, looking for engine partners, too

Wed, 14 Nov 2012

Do you believe in reincarnation? Like how we hope that, maybe, all of our hard work as auto writers will result in an eventual return as a swarm of beautiful butterflies. If you are a Saab fan, the equivalent could be this bit of news: The 9-3 Convertible may rise again, as an electric vehicle.
Word comes from the Dutch version of Autoweek that Chinese entity National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) has indicated that it will bring an electric version of the 9-3 Convertible to market in the next 18 months. The EV droptop would first debut in the Chinese market, but could expand, as could the lineup to other 9-3 variants, such as the sedan and SportCombi. A NEVS spokesperson has stated, "NEVS basically no doors holds." We're not sure if that's the spokesperson or the translation from the Dutch report, but you get the gist.
NEVS also indicated that conventionally powered versions of the 9-3 could be produced as well. The internal combustion engines could be the originally intended General Motors engines. Regardless of powerplant, we would be very eager to see Saab return, potentially as an EV to boot!

Super sleeper Saab 900 does 174 mph in the standing mile

Sun, 14 Apr 2013

Somewhere behind Hennessey setting a new top speed record at this year's Texas Mile with its camouflage Ford GT, a stock-looking 1996 Saab 900T pulled up to the line to see what it could do. The dealer showroom wheels wouldn't offer any indication that the 2.0-liter four-cylinder under the hood was getting help from a Garrett turbocharger, a tuned ECU and E85 gas to put out 465 horsepower at the front wheels.
Knowing that, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that at the other end of the mile the sky blue Swedish wonder was doing 174 miles per hour. The four-cylinder class at the Texas Mile has plenty such rockets, too, this Swede coming just behind a Dodge Neon that did 175.8 mph. You can watch the Saab do its thing in the video below.

Saab owners NEVS denied creditor protection by Swedish court

Thu, 28 Aug 2014

The story of Saab is practically a Greek tragedy at this point. The quirky Swedish automaker that was once known as a pioneer of affordable turbocharging has been followed by years of news that just seemed to keep getting worse. At this point, maybe the brand name should be allowed to fade away into the ether and be remembered for the good times that it gave us.
Saab's latest predicament is that its parent National Electric Vehicle Sweden (or NEVS) has been denied protection from its creditors by the Swedish courts. According to Reuters, the judges called the business' financing plan "vague and completely undocumented." A company spokesperson told Reuters that it plans to appeal.
Seemingly in reaction to the court's decision, NEVS posted a press release on its website announcing that the company had applied "for a reorganization to create more time for the ongoing negotiations." The automaker continues to claim that it's negotiating with two global automakers to sell a portion of the company, possibly Mahindra, but the process is taking longer than it originally predicted. It seems a distinct possibility that this reorganization attempt is simply a way to buy extra time.
