NO RESERVE ***************** NO RESERVE Vehicle Auctions (First time bidders see note at bottom) This is a 2003 Saturn L200 seized by the Sheriff as a result of a forfeiture. The answers to questions requesting additional information will be posted on the item description as the auction progresses. Here is what I know: The vehicle is a 4 cylinder with 183,000 miles on the odometer. The engine runs, but unknown how well. The tires are in poorcondition. Flaws. The vehicle needs to be jump started. Since it’s been sitting awhile, the battery may need to be replaced. Both front and rear bumber guards are damaged and the vehicle also has a cracked windshield. Should be visible in a photo. Keep in mind we have no history of the vehicle other than it was being driven when it was seized. Since then it has sat in storage. Good luck. FORFEITED VEHICLES/SHERIFF’S SALES The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office currently disposes of forfeited vehicles through public auction on eBay. The vehicles are listed with no reserve price, meaning the highest bidder wins the auction. Auctions typically start at $100.00. Vehicles are forfeited for a wide variety of reasons, from drunk driving to drug sales or fleeing a police officer. The vehicles also display a wide range of maintenance and repair (or disrepair, as the case may be). The Sheriff’s Office does not have a mechanic, nor do we claim to know anything about vehicle maintenance. For that reason, you are strongly encouraged to view the vehicle in person or arrange for someone to look at the vehicle for you prior to sale. While the department will make every effort to note each defect or characteristic to help you make an informed purchase decision we simply don’t know cars to the level of detail that has been requested in some of the auctions held since the department started using eBay in 2002. Bottom line, if the vehicle was being driven at the time it was seized we’ll tell you. From the time it comes into our possession, it gets towed or moved by flatbed. We don’t drive the vehicles. As such, we can’t attest to their operability. As each vehicle listed for auction on eBay was forfeited, it is unregistered and unlicensed. Both details must be taken care of before the vehicle can be driven off the lot. Out-of-state buyers can purchase 31-day permits for $11.00 at the local license bureau, which would allow the vehicle to be driven. Minnesota residents must handle license and registration transfer prior to the vehicle being driven. The local license bureau office (5 minutes away) is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. As for the title, when we seize a vehicle a rather lengthy paper chase begins. The end result of that paper chase is that the Sheriff’s Office becomes the legal owner of the vehicle and our name is on the title. We do not begin an auction until we have that title in our possession. At the end of the auction, the title is transferred from us to you. You will leave our office with the vehicle, keys and the title in hand. PLEASE NOTE: 1. Unless otherwise stated, the condition of this vehicle is unknown. 2. This item is being offered "AS-IS, WHERE-IS" with no warranty or other guarantee as to its condition or fitness for use. As mentioned above, we don’t drive the vehicles and can’t attest to their operability. 3. We do not ship vehicles and all transactions must be in person. 4. Recalled Saturn Ion facing separate federal safety probe
Fri, 21 Mar 2014General Motors may be staring down another recall campaign for one of its models already embroiled in its high-profile ignition recall. The 2003-2007 Saturn Ion is already among the 1.6-million vehicles being recalled for faulty ignition switches, and now new light is being shed on a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation over 2004-2007 models centering on a loss of power steering.
The government safety regulator has received 846 complaints about the problem and claims that GM has had 3,489 reports of failure. Of those cases, there have been 16 accidents and 2 injuries reported, according to Automotive News. While NHTSA has been conducting an investigation since September 2011, no recall has been issued yet.
The inquiry's length was brought to light by an organization called the National Legal and Policy Center that alleges GM and NHTSA have known about the problem but are delaying a recall. It has sent a letter to CEO Mary Barra asking "to recall Saturn Ions for the model years 2004 through 2007 without further delay." The letter in question is available in full on the group's website.
Report: Saturn owners offered $2,000 to stick with GM products
Mon, 15 Feb 2010After its decision to euthanize Oldsmobile, General Motors knows exactly what happens when it mothballs one of its brands: GM loses market share to the competition. The General is trying to stop history from repeating itself with Saturn customers by offering $2,000 on the hood of every car and crossover donning the ringed planet badge. Automotive News says the offer actually started on February 2 and runs until the end of March. To be eligible for the $2,000 bounty Saturn owners must have leased or purchased their Saturn at least six months ago. Interestingly, those owners don't even have to turn in their Saturn to be eligible for the cash.
AN reports that research company R.L. Polk says even before Saturn went on the endangered species list, it lagged other GM nameplates in the all-important aspect of customer retention. The mass exodus from Saturn loyalty predictably intensified at the end of 2008 as customers became anxious over the future of the brand. For its part, GM insists that all Saturn warranties will be upheld and customers looking for service can still go to a GMC, Chevy, Buick or Cadillac dealership.

Saturn Ion steering probe closed by NHTSA
Tue, 22 Apr 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has closed its investigation into faulty electric power steering motors affecting 334,728 Saturn Ions from 2004-2007, because General Motors has issued a recall for them. The group's research found that the part failed at a high rate in the vehicles.
GM recalled over 1.3 million vehicles a few weeks ago, including the Ion, because the power steering could suddenly fail. If broken, the cars could still turn, but it took greater effort. The automaker is also covering 96,324 2003 Ions with a lifetime warranty for their motors, but it's not immediately replacing them.
NHTSA opened its investigation into the motors in September 2011, and it found 4,787 complaints and 30,560 warranty claims that showed failure for the Ion alone. It estimated a complaint rate of 14.3 incidents per 1,000 vehicles and warranty claim rate of 9.1 percent. The investigation also found evidence of 12 crashes caused by loss of steering, two of which resulted in injuries.
