SOME EXTRA INFO ABOUT SCION 2009

If you’re considering a 2009 Scion xB, you might be drawn to its quirky styling. A large cabin with comfortable seating for five and plenty of cargo space proves that the beauty of the xB isn’t just skin-deep

The highly-ranked xB has outstanding reliability and strong safety scores. It’s well-stocked with standard interior amenities like air conditioning and it gets a standard 160-watt Pioneer stereo with a USB port. A touch-screen navigation system and an upgraded Pioneer stereo were optional when it was new. The xB also has uncommon-for-the-class standard safety equipment like electronic stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution.

The xB comes with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that has more horsepower than most small cars’ base engines. Although reviewers thought the engine is peppy, its square body design and high-for-the-class horsepower rating mean it doesn’t get the best gas mileage. It averages just 22/28 mpg city/highway, which is low for the class. Overall, reviewers had few complaints with the xB’s performance, but noted its boxy shape makes it feel tippy when rounding corners.

Scion trying to build business case for FR-S convertible as Subaru bows out

Tue, 28 Jan 2014

Hope may remain for a convertible version of the Scion FR-S, according to a report from Ward's Auto. You'll recall that rumors were swirling about the feasibility of a rear-drive Toyobaru convertible as early as October, and that back in November, Subaru - which makes the FR-S, Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 - essentially nixed the idea of an open-topped variant.
"We make the car, so if we don't make it, it can't happen," brand chief Yasuyuki Yoshinaga told Automotive News, according to Ward's, at the Tokyo Motor Show. "Our engineering department told me that losing the entire roof requires a complete redesign of the structure. It would need a big change."
Despite Yoshinaga-san's arguments against a droptop variant, Toyota is apparently still considering the model. Speaking to media at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, Scion's US vice president, Doug Murtha, hinted that the rear-drive droptop was in the works.

Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0 hits dealers with $29,990 MSRP

Wed, 10 Sep 2014

If you're familiar with Scion, you likely know all about the Release Series special editions, and back in April, the automaker showed us the first RS example of its FR-S coupe. At that time, we knew the price would come in somewhere "under $30,000," and while that's technically true, the final number is a whopping ten bucks below that $30k mark. Yep, the yellowest Scion can be yours for $29,990, not including $770 for destination.
Only 1,500 of the FR-S RS 1.0 coupes will be made, all fitted with TRD lowering springs, a quad exhaust system, TRD steering wheel, HID headlamps with LED running lights, a TRD shift knob, pushbutton start, black seats and, of course, that aero kit. The $29,990 price applies to cars that use the six-speed manual transmission. If you want the automatic, be prepared to shell out $31,090.
Scroll down for more details about the special Scion. And if the super-yellow coupe isn't really lighting your fire, you can always opt for its Subaru sister, in a lovely shade of blue.

Scion FR-S may be getting supercharger kit from TRD

Mon, 05 Nov 2012

The Scion FR-S was just named the Hottest Sport Compact at the 2012 SEMA Show, and Toyota Racing Development (TRD) is apparently looking to make this car a little hotter. According to Car and Driver, TRD is close to coming up with a supercharger to fit to the car's 2.0-liter flat-four engine in order to squeeze out a little more performance. Currently, the FR-S produces 200 horsepower, but there's no guessing how much a supercharger could improve this figure.
With Subaru seemingly hard at work on a new turbo engine for the BRZ and even possibly a BRZ STI model, it is only logical for a force-fed FR-S to be in the works as well. Surprisingly, though, the report says that supercharger would be unique to the FR-S, but since the Scion and Subaru BRZ are mechanically identical, it isn't clear how this would be accomplished. TRD already offers plenty of upgrades for the FR-S such as exhaust, brake and suspension kits, and it offers a handful of superchargers for other models including the 5.7-liter V8 used in the Toyota Tundra and the 4.0-liter V6 used in the Tacoma.
