This has been a great family car, and hockey transport vehicle.  About 25,000 miles per year, the Pacifica Blue Pearl is a beautiful paint color on the exterior, with a fine buff will shine like new!  There are certainly a few chips due to the age, and mileage.  AWD is amazing in the Winter no matter how much snow, no problem.

This is a solid car, but with 235,000 miles it has a bit of season as well.  We have had the car serviced by our personal mechanic the entire time we've owned the Sub.

Some of the new add ons:

  • New Radiator
  • Brakes, pads, rotors
  • Aluminum Rims, tires
  • Synthetic Oil changed every 4-5000 miles Jiffy Lube

Some of the things to be aware of:

  • The a/c and heat has 2 controls that just spin, there are control cables we just never ordered to do the maybe 1 hour fix.  We have the diagram. @ $50 for the cables.  We rarely use A/C, typically we drive with windows open so not sure if a/c does or doesn't go, heat cranks.
  • Slight hesitation sometimes when flooring it, but it's been that way for 50,000 miles for us.
  • Oil rarely leaks we burn, go through maybe 1 quart of oil per oil change, but with age normal
  • Antifreeze we periodically do add this to the Sub, we've been told we can change some gaskets, or just keep an eye on the level, and add when needed.  We opted to simply add fluid!
  • Classic One of a Kind Hockey Stick Grill, if you're not a hockey fan, great, we get more compliments on this than you can believe.  If you're not a hockey person, great, a new grill is about $80.  One night we guess the original grill just flew off, or someone took it, and we've replaced with the sticks.

We're offering NO RESERVE AUCTION, $500 deposit upon completion of bidding, and we can ship to any location for a nominal fee.  If for any reason you are unsure, simply don't bid, as the car is being sold as is.  If you'd like to drive before bidding absolutely great, just let us know we're in the Northeast Suburbs of Chicago.

New Subaru Legacy may be getting smaller six-cylinder and sport models

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

Subaru gave the next-generation, 2015 Legacy a brand new, more sophisticated platform and improved interior at the Chicago Auto Show, but the engines were carried over barely changed from the previous gen. However, if a rumor from Car and Driver turns out to be true, then the power trains may be getting upgraded as well.
A source within Subaru indicates that the aging 3.6-liter flat-six might finally be getting a replacement in favor of a smaller, more powerful six-cylinder engine, and the four-cylinder may get direct injection. Both of them would be ready for the new Legacy's mid-cycle refresh in about three years, and they would likely be shared by new Outback too.
The turbocharged, GT trim has been absent from the US-market Legacy for the last few model years, but the insider hinted that it might make a return in the coming years. The new version would use the 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four found in the Forester and the WRX. Though like the Forester, a turbocharged Legacy would likely only be available with the CVT.

2015 Subaru WRX STI headed for Detroit, more WRX details leaked

Fri, 15 Nov 2013

The debuts of the 2015 Subaru WRX and the Legacy Concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show next week are kind of hogging the Subaru spotlight, making it easy to forget that there is a more potent, more aggressive version of the small sedan waiting in the wings. And based on a rumor from Australia, we'll see the sportier WRX STI at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
The report comes from Motoring in Australia, which claims that a more potent version of the WRX will make its debut in the Motor City, and that it will do so with an even 300 horsepower (five fewer than the current STI) and 290 pound-feet of torque (identical to the current car). Aside from the more potent 2.5-liter turbocharged flat four, the STI should boast the regular spread of aesthetic upgrades and suspension, brake, chassis and transmission tweaks.
The standard all-wheel-drive WRX will sprint to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds.

2015 Subaru WRX: Introduction

Tue, 10 Jun 2014

"As far as street-legal rally cars go, there's still nothing better than a WRX." I wrote that line following my first drive of the 2015 Subaru WRX late last year - one of the better motoring experiences I had in 2013. Sure, a particularly involving drive route helped, but I don't want to sell the new Subaru short: it's a seriously good car - easily one of the sharpest, best-driving little turbos available today.
When I drove the even hotter 2015 WRX STI in January, it was a similar love-fest. The STI is infused with all of the WRX's greatness, but it's sharper, meaner, and on good roads (and race tracks), the winged wonder is really outstanding. But because of its higher price tag, less forgiving suspension tuning, and only marginal performance increases, I'm convinced that the STI isn't the best WRX for the money. And much as I love it, I just don't think I'd ever buy the STI over its more sedate sister (though I totally understand why others might).
So when it came time to add a new long-term car to the Autoblog fleet, many votes were cast in favor of the WRX. There was a lot of debate about whether or not to get the standard version, or the mightier STI. But at the end of the day, my argument that the basic WRX is the better daily driver - nee, one of the best all-around, all-weather performers money can buy - carried the day.
