The Bad News:

The car has been rear-ended twice (March 2006 and April 2009) and sustained $5400 worth of hail damage in 2008. I had a dent repaired in the front passenger door in 2012 and the door and right front quarter panel were painted during that repair.

The 2006 rear end collision involved $6500 worth of repair which involved replacement of the rear hatch, bumper, rear floor pan, exhaust (replaced with a 2.5” Borla Cat Back), and a pull and repair of the rear unibody.

The 2009 collision was less costly (~$1600) and resulted in the replacement of the hatch and the rear bumper.

The 2008 hail damage resulted in  the hood, roof, and most of the sheet metal on the left hand side of the car being replaced.

Because of all the body work the only original paint on the car was on the right rear passenger door and the right rear quarter panel. As these were noticeably faded relative to the rest of the car, I had the right hand side of the car painted in May 2014.

Body shop repair records are available on request.

The Good News:

Mechanically the car is sound. None of the body damage has affected the way the car drives.

Because of all the body work the oldest paint on the car is from 2006.

The car has less than 90,000 miles on it and I am the original owner. Oil was changed every 6 months with full synthetic (synthetic blend a few times) and I have all the service records.  Other than two trips to the west coast the use of this car has been limited to daily driving to and from work. I have an Excel file that summarizes the car's service and repair history that I can forward on request.

Other:

  • The current tires have ~20,000 miles on them.
  • 60K Service: Timing and AC belts were replaced in July 2009
  • Leaking A/C compressor seals were recently replaced.
  • The battery was replaced in March 2014.

Add Ons:

  • Rota Wheels
  • Subaru Performance Cold Air Intake
  • Borla Cat Back Exhaust
  • JVC DVD with USB and Aux inputs.
  • Tinted Windows

Terms of Sale:

Bidders with no feedback will be declined. A $500 deposit is required within 72 hours and the balance of payment is due within one week. As soon as the check or money order for the balance clears, the car is yours. Buyer is responsible for shipping or pick up.

2015 Subaru Outback

Tue, 01 Jul 2014

"We like producing cars that are different." That's the company line trumpeted by several Subaru executives during the launch of the 2015 Outback - one of Fuji Heavy's most successful vehicles to date. Managing Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski accurately noted that while Subaru has never really found salvation with its mainstream sedans, it's the higher-riding, butcher offerings like the Outback and the Impreza-based XV Crosstrek that have been sales stars for the Japanese company. In 2013, for example, Subaru sold nearly three Outbacks for every Legacy it moved. And in 2014, the XV is on pace to outsell the Impreza upon which its based.
But Subarus have always been different, catering to unique customers that desire something a bit more special than your run-of-the-mill sedan or crossover. It's clearly worked, with Subaru having posted 30 months of year-over-year sales increases as of this writing. And even as the automaker's portfolio goes more mainstream, smoothing out its serially awkward styling and gunning for a larger market share here in the United States, that intrinsic Subaru differentiation is still baked in to each and every product.
It's that new Outback we're here to talk about today, a vehicle that's been comprehensively redesigned for the 2015 model year while not shaking up the formula that's made it successful since its inception in the mid-1990s, back when it (arguably) launched what we now know as the crossover utility vehicle segment. It's still plenty different - and plenty good, too.

Subaru WRX STI prototype spied in motion

Thu, 18 Apr 2013

Earlier this week, we got all hot and bothered over a set of spy photos showing the next-generation Subaru WRX STI testing at the Nürburgring. And while pretty still shots of a camouflaged car are always nice to look at, stirring up lots of speculation, having video is even better. Good thing, then, that our trusty spies were on hand to get some rolling footage of that STI as it lapped the infamous German track.
Now, as a good majority of the comments on our previous post will point out, it looks like Subaru has dumbed down the design of that decidedly hot WRX Concept from New York for the road-going car. Of course, we need to wait until all that swirly paper is pulled off the body, but from what we can see here, it looks like this new 'Rex will be more akin to the current Impreza than we were originally led to believe.
So while we wait and hope that what's under the camouflage will be something sexy, have a look at the video below to watch the WRX STI prototype get worked out on the 'Ring.

UK designer to make WRX Concept-aping body kit for production Subaru

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

Remember the Subaru WRX Concept shown at the 2013 New York Auto Show, the one almost everyone loved but no one expected Subaru to make? Indeed, that Parnassian "design statement" led to a production design that came from a good middle class neighborhood known for its office parks and pasture land. UK designer Michael Bond is offering to change that, the man behind the yet-to-be-produced Rumbler "Superhero Utility Vehicle" touting the Subaru WRX Concept 13, which would take a customer's new WRX and turn it into something pretty close to the original concept.
That means new front and rear clips, including a redesigned rear diffuser to increase downforce, but a spoiler can be installed if the buyer decides that what he wants. The car won't be an exact replica of the NYIAS concept since that would infringe on Subaru's intellectual property, but it isn't clear yet how the design would be altered. Bond's site says that once he gets 50 confirmed orders, his team will order a WRX and begin the process of creating the new bodywork. It is claimed that once work begins, it will be four to six months to "[present] a completed model for public view."
Bond says the price will come down depending on the number of orders beyond 50, but doesn't give any indication of how much those first 50 cars could cost. If you're keen, though, head over to the site and fill out the enquiry form. Who knows if the Concept 13 will happen, but so far this is the best chance you have of getting what could have been.
