Subaru Outback 3.6R for sale. Asking $19,500. Very good condition. Contact me for a test drive.

Reason for sale: Started commuting by train and cannot justify car.

Strong 256 HP 3.6-liter flat-six engine paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with steering-mounted paddle shifter override. Hitch (included) is rated to 5,000 pounds.

Probably the best snow car on the market due to 8.7" ground clearance, full-time all-wheel drive, all-season tires, appropriate weight distribution, and a strong engine. It is EASY to drive in snow and rain. There's a reason ~80% of ski patrollers drive a Subaru.

Handles road trips well and is a favorite vehicle for families due to generous cabin size. Very comfortable seating, even when full with bigger guys. Ample head room and leg room, including in back seats.

Bright xenon headlights look great and light up the road in all conditions.

Well-designed roof rack is easily retracted for increased aerodynamics and fits many types of racks (such as the Yakima bike rack in photo available separately). Hitch can also be used for gear racks or for towing.

Auxiliary cable and power in center console allow listening from and charging of phones, ipods, etc.

8.48/10 star (tirerack.com) rated Firestone Precision Touring tires are under 1 year old and have been driven <5,000 miles. Again, great in rain/snow.

Minor exterior scratches and one quarter-sized door dent are only issues I know. I had an independent mechanic look it over in January and found no issues. Happy to allow/facilitate a full-independent inspection prior to purchase.

5 year/60,000 mi warranty on drivetrain exists.

Willing to ship car if need be. If able to meet in Northern Jersey, message me for a test drive.

Subaru getting creative in these two very different WRX STI viral videos

Fri, 07 Mar 2014

Subaru is getting into viral videos with two new, radically different shorts to promote the 2015 WRX STI; both are pretty entertaining. They are certainly more interesting, from an enthusiast perspective, than the company's dog-oriented advertising campaign and sponsorship of the Puppy Bowl.
The first promotes a new grindhouse-style short film that Subaru is launching, which is cheekily called The Ride of Her Life, and it previews the full deal due on March 13. While It's just a glimpse at the moment, if Subaru really leans into the cheesy, 1970s-style, then the full video could be really enjoyable.
The second video is a new take on an idea we've seen before but is still very cool. There might be some digital trickery going on in some of the "Stick bomb" shots, but the result is still exciting. Plus, the STI's Nürburgring livery is quite attractive. Scroll down to check them both out and tell us which you prefer in Comments.

Ever wonder how to really pronounce Japanese automaker names?

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

People tend to get very set in their ways when it comes to the pronunciation of words. Just look at the endless debates over whether or not to say the final 'e' in Porsche (which you should in terms of correct German enunciation). Or the argument about whether to follow the British convention and give the 'u' in Jaguar a special delivery or to say the 'ua' diphthong as more of a 'w' sound, as usually happens in the US.
This short video doesn't answer either of those automotive questions, but it does allow a native Japanese speaker to demonstrate the accepted pronunciations for several, major automakers from the country. One benefit is that it clears up the occasional debate over whether Nissan should be said with a long or short 'i' sound. Also, listen closely to how the female host says Mazda as Matsuda, the way it's actually said in the language. Even if this doesn't change the way you enunciate these brands, at least now you know the accurate way in Japanese.

Subaru boxers offer a different type of flat-four thrum

Wed, 08 Jan 2014

If there's one number you'd associate with the Subaru Impreza, surely it'd be Four. Four generations, four doors, four-wheel drive, four cylinders in a boxer configuration. But in this Japanese market promo clip, Subaru has brought in another kind of boxer: the beat boxer.
Bringing in performers Kouteisennin and Time Machine, along with beat boxers Tatsuya and Rinka, the three-minute video clip below reinterprets the spirit of the Impreza through a mix of interpretive dance and human-generated beats that's rather hard to describe and needs to be seen - and heard. So pump up the volume and click on down below to see this clever and funky video for yourself.
