I bought this about a year ago.  Since then I have replaced the stock carb with a Weber conversion, powdercoated a few engine parts, and installed a tach.  Also has a new battery and exhaust.  The carb has a manual choke routed to the left of the steering wheel.  Since installing the Weber I have consistently hit 27-30MPG.  This thing is a blast to drive.  Chances are if you are looking at this you know what it is.  Other than the above listed, it is stock.  No suspension lift or larger wheels and tires.  Everything works!  Hubs lock, 4x4 works.  Even the wiper squirters work.

Motor: stock 1.3L with the Weber carb.  New exhaust is minus the cat. converter.  I was told by the previous owner that the motor was freshened up but I have no proof.  I will state that the alternator and water pump look new.  Fires right up and runs great.

It is CLEAN as far as rust goes.   The underside is solid.  Rockers are solid.  You will notice surface rust near the hinges, around the battery box, and a few spots under the rear windows (see pics).  The bottoms of the doors are completely solid but have a few surface rust spots.  I have had this garaged since I bought it and refused to drive it during the winter due to how rust free it is. The paint is not show quality but still looks good and appears to be original.  There is a dent on the drivers rear corner (see pic).  The interior is stock and seats have small tears.  Back seat included but removed as I transport my dog in the back.  Glove box door hinge is broken but door stays in place.

Now for the bad: oil leak from bottom end (either pan or rear main), second gear synchro is starting to go.  Still shifts fine if you are used to it, but if not second will grind.  The interior floor looks bad and carpet is shot.  If I were going to keep it I would Linex the inside, fix the leak, and deal with the trans until I had the time to pull it.  I am trying to be as honest as possible and have therefore pointed out as much negative as I can.  These are all easy fixes for most.  This sammy is not all cut up and beat on.  It would make an excellent starting point for a new build or simply a great driver to tool around in.

Feel free to contact me.  Come by for a look and test drive.  Mileage currently at 90,000.   Cash only

Volkswagen drops "GTi" lawsuit against Suzuki

Tue, 02 Oct 2012

Way back in 2004, Volkswagen took umbrage with Suzuki being granted permission to use the nameplate "SWIFT GTi" for a performance variant of its small-car offering (2012 equivalent seen here). Now, eight years and surely some very steep legal bills later, VW has finally dropped its claim against Suzuki.
The General Court of the European Union stated, back in March of this year, that Suzuki's GTi registration could not be confused with VW's "Golf GTI." Volkswagen had appealed that ruling, though has now reportedly called off the dogs. In fact, Germany's Die Welt reports that the appeal has been dead for several weeks now.
This news comes amongst continued arbitration acrimony between the two automakers, all revolving around VW's forced divestiture of nearly 20-percent stake it purchased in Suzuki some two years ago.

Suzuki previews Crosshiker, X-Lander, Hustler ahead of Tokyo

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

With the Tokyo Motor Show looming on the horizon, Suzuki has revealed a trio of concept cars it will present at the expo.
First up is the Crosshiker concept, a compact crossover that looks good enough in metallic red, but in its essence reminds us of the oft-maligned X-90 convertible crossover coupe. Based on the G70/Regina concept, the Crosshiker packs a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine into a compact form that weighs just 1,785 pounds.
Next comes the X-Lander, which strikes us as a smaller take on the formula espoused by the Isuzu VX-02 or Land Rover DC100 Sport concepts. Unfortunately based on the Jimny, the white X-Lander incorporates a 1.3-liter engine with a robotized manual and four-wheel drive into a high-riding, chopped-windshield convertible sport-ute form.

American Suzuki gets $100M in financing to go out of business... buy more cars?

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC), which declared bankruptcy in early November, has been approved by the courts for up to $100 million in debtor-in-possession financing to enable it to shutter its US car business. ASMC had received a $45 million loan from the Japanese parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), last month in order to make repayment deals with its franchise dealers. At the same time, ASMC was awaiting final court approval of this larger loan.
Out of the newly approved funds, $50 million can be used for operations, and oddly, the other $50 million can be put toward purchases of new inventory from SMC. That's right, even as existing inventory was headed for a smooth exit with the help of incentives, customer demand for orphan Suzuki models is so strong - last month's sales were up 22 percent compared to 2011 - that ASMC plans to purchase 2,500 additional cars from SMC that were built after the bankruptcy announcement. Good news for the owners of those vehicles: the top 50 dealers, representing more than 98 percent of ASMC sales, will become parts and services centers.
The press release below has more information. Unlike its recent tenure here, the end of Suzuki cars in the US looks like it's going rather well.
