This is without a doubt one of the finest 1950 Ford convertibles available today. This car has recently completed a frame off concourse restoration, about as close to original as one can get. It is powered by what is believed to be the original Flathead V-8 engine and Standard Overdrive transmission, both completely rebuilt, with only 7000 miles traveled since completion. All of the original motor parts have been saved if you would like to go back to the way it came. The exterior Matador Red finish is impeccable. Everything on this car has either been replaced or refurbished. The LaBaron Bonney interior and convertible top is off the charts gorgeous. The engine compartment and trunk area is like new, detailed to perfection. The overall alignment of this car is better than from the factory. Notice the detailed photos taken to show the glass, door and trim alignments. The underneath is nothing short of show ready. This car was built to be a Dearborn show car and comes with the paperwork where it has been judged. It took 1st place in the concourse restorations at the early Ford show in Charlotte a couple years ago. Restoration photos are included from start to finish as well as a restoration movie and tons of build receipts. This car was built by the owner, for the owner, spending over $100K throughout the project. Not a detail has been overlooked. It has been insulated front to back including the firewall, floors, trunk etc.. Best of all, it rides and drives like a dream. This is a great opportunity for you to own an excellent Ford classic. Suzuki Authentics Concept is genuine but drab

Sat, 20 Apr 2013

Looks can certainly be deceiving. Have a glance at this new Suzuki Authentics concept, for example - we were told that this would, essentially, be a proper sedan version of the new SX4, but our folks on the ground in Shanghai tell us it's actually much larger. Like, bigger than the Kizashi. (Hey, remember the Kizashi?)
Regardless, Suzuki says that the Authentics concept previews a C-segment vehicle for the Chinese market. A good move, too, since that segment has the highest volume in the Chinese market. (That's why automakers like Ford, for example, have more than one offering in the class.) If we're honest, the Authentics concept looks a bit "meh" for our tastes - there isn't a whole lot of emotion going on here with the design. Consider it a competitor for that spiffy new Ford Escort that also took the stage here in Shanghai.
We don't have any more details about the Authentics concept at the moment, but considering the fact that Suzuki has officially exited the US market, at least we don't have to worry about this thing showing up on our shores anytime soon.

Suzuki Kizashi recalled due to pesky spiders

Wed, 27 Aug 2014

Spiders seem to love the fuel tanks of Japanese sedans. Mazda had to recall its Mazda6 twice for arachnid webs blocking their car's vent lines. Now, the Suzuki Kizashi is also being called in because spiders can block the car's evaporative canister vent hose, a condition which could cause excessive negative pressure in the tank, eventually leading to a crack and fuel leak. The campaign covers about 19,249 examples of the 2010-2013 model year Kizashi built from October 2009 through July 2012.
According to the automaker's defect notice released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the first report of a spiderweb blocking a vent line was in 2011. It began monitoring field data and found six more incidents from 2011 to 2013. In 2014, there was one more case, and with further investigation, Suzuki decided to initiate a recall. There are no reports of accidents or injuries of the webs causing accidents or injuries in the US.
In a similar move to Mazda, Suzuki is replacing the evaporative canister vent line with one that has a filter in place to keep the spiders out. Also, if the lines are obstructed by webs in a specific vehicle, the fuel tank will also get swapped. Scroll down to read the full recall announcement from NHTSA.

Japanese motorcycles moving into forced induction

Sat, 30 Nov 2013

While turbocharging and supercharging may be nothing new in the automotive industry, motorcycle engines are almost always naturally aspirated. But even that's beginning to change. At the Tokyo Motor Show last week, two major Japanese companies showed off new forced-induction motorbike engines.
Kawasaki rolled in with a supercharged four-cylinder motorbike engine. It offered little in the way of details, disclosing only that the turbine blades were developed in-house to withstand the heat and vibration of spooling up at motorbike speeds.
Suzuki is taking a different approach, however. Its Recursion concept bike packs a turbocharged 588cc two-cylinder engine with a turbocharger and intercooler. The compact package churns out just under 100 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque, packaged into a motorbike that weighs just 384 pounds dry.
