Trail Editon With Black, 4 Wd, Brush Guards, Fog Lights And Off-road Options on 2040-cars
Summerland Key, Florida, United States
This Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition
is rugged enough and fully equipped for going off-road to hunt, hike, climb or for
a day at the shore and is good looking enough to take to the Commodore’s Ball
at the Yacht Club or the Ducks Unlimited dinner. Going off-road? In addition to four wheel drive, Westin brush
guards, fog lights and running boards (over $2,000 aftermarket cost), it comes with skid plates, a Kinetic
Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), and increased clearance. For really tough terrain, there is crawl
control, downhill assist control and active traction control. And it runs so quiet; you can drive up on
many beautiful sights without being noticed. It tows boats and trailers with
ease
using an integrated tow hitch receiver with both 4-pin & 7-pin connector wiring
harnesses. For a day at the beach or
running errands, you get plenty of cargo space, roof rails that will take
standard paddleboard or kayak racks, Cargo area lighting
w/"tailgating" speaker
amplifier feature for outside entertainment, two 120V outlets, and a
retractable rear floor that makes loading easy or acts as a picnic table. The interior projects rugged,
functional good looks. No leather and
fancy displays. Cloth front
bucket seats, -including 6-way manual driver seat w/power lumbar, 2nd row
40/20/40 split reclining fold-flat cloth bench seat, power glass moon roof, manual control for A/C, electronic door locks and windows, AM/FM
stereo w/CD/MP3 player, including: SIRIUS XM satellite radio, Bluetooth music
streaming wireless technology, (8) speakers. (2) aux audio input jacks, USB Port, 12V DC power outlets, hands free cellular and all of the little
storage spots and cup holders you need. In almost 50,000 miles of driving, most of it highway
miles to my hunt camp in Alabama (10 trips @ 3,000 milels per trip), this car, with a 24 gal. tank, averaged 19
mpg which can be measured with the multi-information display for time,
fuel consumption, cruise range, temperature and compass. It cruises great at highway speeds using a user
friendly cruise control. The front
& rear stabilizer bars, front & rear shock absorbers, independent
double wishbone front suspension w/coil springs, and power 4-wheel ventilated
disc brakes along with a 4.0L DOHC 24-valve VVT-i V6 engine and 5-speed ECT
automatic transmission w/OD -including sequential shift mode give you all the
power and control you need. |

Audi, Toyota land on MIT's list of 50 Most Disruptive Companies
Sat, 23 Feb 2013MIT Technology Review, a magazine all about innovation, has announced its list of the 50 most disruptive companies in 2013, and both Audi and Toyota made the cut. While the term "most disruptive" may carry a negative connotation in most uses (especially in the classroom), the acknowledgement in this case is an accolade, signifying that the company is at the forefront of its industry. In a nutshell, a disruptive company is a business whose innovations force other businesses to alter their strategic direction.
Audi made the list for "pushing autonomous cars closer to fruition with a laser-scanning road detector that fits in a vehicle's front grille," and Toyota for "expanding its dominance of the hybrid-car market with its new plug-in version of the Prius." Click on the image above to be taken to the original graphic at MIT Technology Review, where clickable colored squares reveal information about each of the 50 winners, compiled from a variety of industries.
2015 Toyota Sienna SE keeps the swagger, adds thoughtful updates [w/videos]
Thu, 17 Jul 2014Toyota found huge success with its "Swagger Wagon" rap video for the 2011 Sienna SE. It showed that a minivan could actually sort of maybe be fun and didn't have to be a lame vehicle for people who long ago lost their sense of humor. Now that there is a slight refresh for the 2015 model, the company is trying to capture that effervescent image again with a bunch of videos aimed at families.
For the latest launch, Toyota is partnering with some family-friendly online video stars and having them show off the Sienna's features. It's releasing YouTube videos from the creators of Action Movie Kid and Convos with My 2-Year-Old and a Vine from Eh Bee Family, and they all hope to show that it's cool to be a family with a minivan.
In terms of actual changes, though, the update is pretty light aesthetically, but the new tech inside seems aimed directly at mom and dad. However, unless you've got a sharp eye, spotting the exterior refresh might be tough. Toyota is tweaking the front end slightly by adding a dark mesh grille and trim. The headlights are also slightly reshaped to incorporate a new strip of available LED running lights.
Toyota settles first wrongful death suit related to unintended acceleration
Mon, 21 Jan 2013Toyota's sales seem to have rebounded from the unintended acceleration issues from 2009 and 2010, but the automaker is far from done dealing with this situation. Following a settlement worth up to $1.4 billion for economic loss to affected vehicle owners, Toyota has settled rather than going to trial in a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from an accident in Utah in 2010 that left two passengers dead. This isn't the first case in which Toyota has settled, but it was the first among a consolidated group of cases being held in Santa Ana, CA.
According to The Detroit News, this case was scheduled to take place next month, and it was for a November 2010 incident in which Paul Van Alfen and Charlene James Lloyd were killed in a Camry when, based on findings by the Utah Highway Patrol, the accelerator got stuck causing the car to speed out of control and hit a wall; the terms of the settlement were not announced.
The article says that while Toyota will settle on some cases, it doesn't plan on settling on all of them as it still wants to be able to "defend [its] product at trial." This will probably be the case in suits claiming that software for the drive-by-wire accelerator was the cause of an accident in a Toyota or Lexus vehicle. The question of whether or not the electronic accelerator played any role in this problem has been a hot-button topic since the beginning. Toyota has issued recalls in the past to attempt to prevent unintended acceleration caused by trapped floor mats and faulty accelerator pedals, but it also says driver error was to blame in some instances.
