Welcome to my 1997 Toyota Avalon XL. This vehicle was the top-of-the-line Toyota of its time and
only has 152k miles. The engine has runs like new with nothing to report
or fix. The transmission shifts 100% without issue. All power options – automatic climate control, radio,
locks, windows, etc. - function properly. The paint is in excellent
condition. There are minimal dents, dings, or scratches. The paint is in
excellent condition. The interior is very clean as well with really no signs
of wear on the seats or carpet. The leather has no signs of wear at all. The rims are the upgraded alloy factory
type - with no road rash. The tires are only 4 months old - according to previous owner. This vehicle was very well maintained and it shows. Brakes are great. Oil is fresh. A/C blows cold. Bearing in mind that it is a previously owned vehicle, this car is in really
good condition and will provide years of reliability. Minor issues to address: Mechanically, the car is in terrific shape. It needs a flex pipe on the exhaust - typical for Toyotas of this vintage. Normally, I would have had this fixed but I didn't have the time to do so. I have had it priced at 2 different mechanics - it should run about $150 - the part is $30 the rest is labor - minor fix. Keep this in mind for bidding please. This vehicle is being offered for sale “AS-IS” because of year and miles. Toyota investing $200M in Southern manufacturing
Sun, 23 Jun 2013Over the past two years, Toyota has invested more than $2 billion at its North American production facilities, and it apparently doesn't plan on stopping there. To keep up with recent strong sales, Toyota is investing an additional $200 million at its engine plants in the Southern US to increase production capacity of its V6 engines.
The bulk of this money ($150 million) will go to expand Toyota's engine plant in Huntsville, AL, which is currently responsible for supplying engines - four-cylinder, V6 and V8 - to eight of Toyota's 12 domestically produced vehicles. That includes the best-selling Toyota Camry (shown above).
Toyota didn't say exactly what improvements are being made to the plant, but this follows last year's $80 million investment in the plant that is set to be completed by next year raising the engine capacity to 750,000 annual units including 362,000 V6s. The remaining $50 million will go to the casting plants of Toyota-owned Bodine Aluminum in Missouri and Tennessee, which supply engine blocks and cylinder heads to the Huntsville engine plant as well as others in Kentucky and West Virginia. Will Toyota lose up to 70% of its workforce in TX relocation?
Mon, 17 Nov 2014Toyota's decision to move its US headquarters from its longtime home in Torrance, CA, to Plano, TX, was one of the biggest stories in the automotive industry this spring. With several months since the announcement, more details about the plan have leaked out. It seems that pulling up stakes could mean an even larger shakeup in the Toyota workforce than first thought.
According to Automotive News, Toyota intends to hang onto around 50 percent of its workforce in the move to the Lone Star State. However, even that figure might be optimistic. According to an unnamed insider speaking to AN, there is a fear the actual number could be closer to 30 percent. For comparison, Nissan retained about 42 percent of its workers in its move from California to Tennessee.
The actual percentage making the move is a mystery because Toyota is still rewriting its job descriptions under a single set of guidelines. The changes affect benefits, bonuses and the reporting structure, according to Automotive News, and employees' reactions could play a big role in who decides to go. According to an unnamed worker speaking to AN, the wait is hurting morale. Some people are even applying at the nearby Honda headquarters.
Toyota recalling 342k Tacomas due to faulty seatbelt pretensioners
Wed, 07 Aug 2013Toyota is voluntarily recalling 342,000 Tacoma Access Cab pickups, produced between 2004 and 2011. The wide-ranging recall is due to faults in the screws that attach the belt pre-tensioner to the belt retractor. There are concerns that the screws can loosen themselves over time, especially if the access door is opened and closed with too much force. It's important to note that the recall only covers the driver and front passenger seat, and is limited to just the Access Cab trucks. Other body styles aren't affected.
If the screws come loose, the pre-tensioner and retractor spring could separate from the belt entirely, which would be bad news in a crash. There's no mention of injuries or accidents due to the faulty pre-tensioners. Owners affected by the recall will be notified soon, and asked to come in for recall service.
