1988 Toyota Corolla Gts Coupe 2-door 1.6l on 2040-cars
North Platte, Nebraska, United States
This car is a very rare find in the USA. 10,000 miles or less on new engine, new oversized injectors, new cold air intake, new transaxle with new posi-track and new TRD short throw shifter, new header to new straight pipe to new tuned muffler(a little loud for me), new MR2 computer, new headlight motors(both), new window motors(both) Helium wheels, decent tread on all 4-tires. Interior is in very good shape for an 1988(the seats are a little dirty). Sunroof works. Comes with lowering kit(2" I believe) and new intake and exhaust gaskets. Car runs and drives great. 30+ MPG depending on how its driven. Builder says it corners as good as a 2006 corvette, or better. There is over $5,000.00 invested in this car. Built for grad student, decided it had a little to much power to weight ratio for the young man. The bad points: Has some dents and scratches in the exterior finish, small amount of rust over driver side rear wheel well. and the wiper/cruse switch is hanging,, toggle switch on dash operates wipers, cruse and wiper speed does work. Right side window switch is a new temporary(must hold) toggle switch, operates window perfectly. Steering wheel could use a cover. No radio. The car really is in great shape for its age. BATTERY NOT INCLUDED. Feel free to ask any questions. |

HQ move based on study, not pitch from Gov. Perry, Toyota says
Tue, 29 Apr 2014Toyota's surprising announcement on Monday that it will move its North American headquarters from Torrance, CA location to the Dallas suburb of Plano, TX is allegedly not due to any political wrangling from the state's Republican governor, Rick Perry.
Perry (above) has been up front in his aggressive pursuit of businesses and jobs for Texas, traveling to California, Missouri, Illinois and New York to tempt corporations to his state. And it's not just about the promise of much lower taxes, a Perry spokesman reminds Automotive News that the state boasts, "a workforce that is skilled and ready to do any job."
For his part, Jim Lentz, Toyota's North American CEO said Plano was chosen through an internal process, with the location helped by its proximity to the company's massive pickup factory in San Antonio rather than any campaigning from the governor.
Toyota unintended acceleration lawsuit settled for $16M
Mon, 08 Apr 2013Slowly, the many loose threads still dangling after the unintended acceleration issue Toyota faced a few years ago are being resolved. The Orange County District Attorney's office was believed to be the first DA's office to take Toyota to court, its suit alleging that Toyota knew its cars had defects and continued to sell them. The suit sought to "permanently enjoin Toyota from continued unlawful, unfair, deceptive, and fraudulent business practices as it pertains to both consumers and competitors" and asked for $2,500 "for every violation of the Unfair Business Practices Act," plus costs.
That suit has now been settled, Toyota - without admitting fault or wrongdoing - agreeing to pay $16 million to the county. Half of the money will go to the Orange County Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership, another four million dollars to the OC DA's office to investigate economic crime, the remaining four million being used to pay for the case.
Report: Daihatsu leaving European market
Sun, 16 Jan 2011More than any other, two carmaking giants sit at the top of the industry: Toyota and General Motors. But while GM sells under a (shrinking but still) expansive range of brands, the Toyota Motor Corporation sells most of its vehicles under its own name. That doesn't mean that Toyota, however, doesn't have its own portfolio of subsidiaries. Here in the United States we have the youth-oriented Scion division, while Lexus handles its upscale offerings, and overseas there's Daihatsu.
The budget brand offers a range of small cars under its own name; most are hatchbacks, but there's also the Copen roadster and even a rebadged Camry called the Altis. You may have come across some of their offerings while traveling overseas, particularly in Europe, but that last part is about to come to an end, according to reports.
Word from across the pond is that Toyota plans to withdraw Daihatsu from the European market altogether. The move would reportedly take effect in 2013, and if it comes to pass, would follow similar withdrawals from the North American (1992) and Australian (2006) markets. Thanks for the tip, William!
