2008 Toyota Highlander Limited Sport Utility 4-door 3.5l on 2040-cars
Plano, Texas, United States
This is Toyota's 2008 Highlander in the top of the line Limited trim with two-wheel drive and a 3.5L V6 engine making 270 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque. The standard powertrain returns 18 city, 24 highway, according to the revised EPA estimates.Inside, there's now seating for seven, with a third-row seat that folds and stows away, and a 40/20/40-split folding second row that slides fore and aft and also reclines. The Highlander is one of the most refined vehicles in its class. In particular, Toyota employs new measures to minimize road noise, and uses a sophisticated engine mounting system to isolate noise and vibration.Vehicle safety control and anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist are standard on the Highlander; a total of seven air bags are offered, too, including front side air bags, roll-sensing side-curtain bags, and even a driver's knee bag. Additionally, the hood and fenders themselves are designed with crumple zones. An electric power steering system is installed across the model line. The system also serves several safety functions. This car has straight-line steering, which means the power steering system helps offset a pull to the side due to different surfaces in hard braking. All Highlanders now also have a corner braking feature in which power steering assist guides the driver toward restoring vehicle stability. Also, to help when negotiating a steep hill where traction might be difficult, both hill start assist and downhill assist control are offered. The Highlander's standard feature list includes keyless entry, air conditioning, cruise control, and power accessories. This Limited model is at the top of the line, which adds leather upholstery and Satin Mahogany interior trim, automatic climate control, Smart Key entry system, fog lamps, heated power mirrors, and a heated windshield, along with a host of cosmetic details.Major options include a power back hatch that can be opened with the key fob, voice-activated navigation, leather upholstery and multi-stage heated seats, a rear-seat navigation system, tri-zone air conditioning, a tow package, a moonroof, and a JBL premium audio system with Bluetooth. |

Toyota FT-86 Open Concept would make a mighty fine droptop FR-S
Tue, 05 Mar 2013There's nothing wrong with going topless. And Toyota is proving that its FT-86 (read: Scion FR-S/Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ) coupe is just as excellent with its roof removed. It may only be a concept, but this FT-86 Open previews a new droptop from the Japanese automaker to round out the Toyobaru sports car family. We're finally getting the chance to see the open-air FT-86 in person here at the Geneva Motor Show, and we're already yearning to take it canyon-carving.
Interestingly, the FT-86 retains the Toyota coupe's two-plus-two seating arrangement (we'd prefer a proper roadster setup here), but things still look good for this droptop two-door. We'll be curious to see how the car looks with its folding soft top in place (operated by fancy-shmancy electronics, by the way).
As for production intent, rumors have been flying about a production Scion FR-S convertible, but until we hear it directly from Toyota. Consider our hopes in check but our fingers crossed.
Toyota to sell hot-pink Crown in Japan
Sun, 11 Aug 2013Akio Toyoda is doing a pretty decent job at the helm of the Toyota empire. This is the man, after all, that declared that Toyota would get new sports cars, and that they needed to be, not should be, rear-wheel drive. We can respect that. Toyoda is also trying to do away with his company's conservative styling and bring edgier vehicles to market.
Toyota's designers have done just that, although perhaps they went a bit too far. In November, Toyota debuted its fourteenth-generation Crown with a bling-bling fascia that makes Lexus' spindle grille look as conservative as a three-piece suit, and a retina-searing pink paintjob. See, in Japan, the Crown is to Japan's older crowd what the 2002 Buick Park Avenue is to America's senior citizens. As Automotive News reports, the idea with the pink was to draw attention to the grille, but it was originally intended as a debut item, only.
Now, Toyota is actually planning to offer the electric fuchsia Crown for sale to regular buyers. Interested parties will have from September 1st to September 30th to place an order for the big sedan. According to the AN report, Toyoda said to reporters at the debut, "My initial reaction was: 'You're kidding! Please, not pink." We wish they were kidding.
Toyota raises Japanese base wages for first time since 2008
Fri, 14 Mar 2014Toyota is on track for record profits, and in return, its Japanese workers are receiving their first increase in base wages since 2008, plus higher pay based on seniority and a larger bonus for 2014. The Japanese automaker predicts the average laborer will net a 2.9 percent income gain.
The average Toyota employee will earn 2,700 yen ($26.28) more each month, a 0.8 percent increase from last year. Workers will also receive about 7,300 yen ($71.09) more monthly based on seniority and promotions. Finally, the company's union pushed through a median bonus of 2.44 million yen ($23,768) for 2014, the highest in 6 years.
The pay boost comes as Toyota forecasts a record 1.9-trillion yen ($18.5 billion) profit for the fiscal year ending on March 31, according to Bloomberg. It has been helped by the Japanese government's efforts to weaken the yen on international markets and expand inflation. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been asking businesses to increase compensation to end years of deflation and offset upcoming higher sales taxes. Honda and Nissan have also raised their wages there in recent months.
