1964 Fj45 Landcruiser Lv Wagon, Unrestored Original Classic on 2040-cars

Year:1964 Mileage:100000
Location:

Sheridan, Wyoming, United States

Sheridan, Wyoming, United States

This is a 1964 Toyota Landcruiser FJ45 LV wagon. This is an unrestored original that is very complete. It has the original inline 6 cylinder motor with the 3 speed column shift transmission. Axles are original with 4:11 gear ratio. The interior is also original. This vehicle was a daily driver until 2007 when the clutch failed. It has been parked since that time.

The clutch master and brake master were recently cleaned out and filled with fresh fluid. The brakes and clutch functioned but the fluid leaked out by the next day. The master cylinders did not have any significant pitting and would likely function with a rebuild kit. (The clutch master and slave operated but it still needs a new clutch and pressure plate.) The carburetor was also cleaned out and filled with fresh gas. The fuel line from the tank was disconnected as the gas has fouled. The engine fired right up and idled smoothe. There was minimal rocker noise and no other unusual sounds. This was a good daily driven motor before it was parked and should continue to run fine with fresh fuel and a minor tune up.

The carburetor is a Rochester single barrel unit from a 50s or 60s GM car. This was a popular conversion back in the day and the stock oil bath air cleaner fits right on it. This rig also has a GM alternator conversion and a remote oil filter set-up that uses the standard PH8A filter that newer Cruisers used.

This Cruiser has the typical rust for this year. The worst is in the rear quarters and the front of the rear wheel wells as shown in the pics. The drivers side front floor board also has rust.

The frame is solid and still has original paint in some areas. The axles are solid as well. There is no significant pitting in the metal like you see on cars from the eastern US or coastal areas. Shock mounts, gas tanks skid plate, drivelines, rear sway bar, and other pieces are present and in restorable condition. Tires are new 31x10.50R15s and are mounted on 1976 FJ40 wheels. These wheels can be used when doing a disc brake conversion.

Besides the rust, this Cruiser also has the following issues. The passenger side hinge for the rear upper hatch has broken away from the upper support. This will require the metal to be welded back in place. There is also evidence of a repair on the drivers side cowl area. It looks like it was hit in the side, just in front of the door. There is bondo up to 1/4 inch thick in this area.

The doors appear to be solid and there is no evidence of rust through. Some of the interior handles are missing and the front door latches are not holding the doors closed. The parts appear to be all there but need adjusting of refurbishing.

The glass is all there and is in good condition. Headliner is deteriorated but the bows are intact.

This is a good candidate for a restoration. There were very few of these imported in the US and according to some websites, less than 100 are known to exist.

The vehicle is available for inspection in Sheridan Wyoming. Please ask any questions before placing a bid.

This cruiser comes with a clear Wyoming title. I have it in my hand.

Toyota nearing $1B settlement of unintended acceleration criminal probe

Sun, 09 Feb 2014

According to those all-too-nebulous "people familiar with the matter," Toyota is close to a settlement with the US federal government to end a criminal probe over its long-running unintended acceleration fiasco. Though Toyota has never admitted guilt, the deal could reportedly crest a billion dollars and would likely include a criminal deferred prosecution agreement, and while we're not legal experts, The Wall Street Journal explains that such a deal would "[force Toyota] to accept responsibility while avoiding the potentially crippling consequences of federal criminal convictions."
The report from WSJ also suggests that Toyota is facing charges that it "made false or incomplete disclosures" to various government agencies regarding possible defects to its cars. Such charges may include mail and wire fraud violations. Toyota has already paid out fines totaling $66.2 million to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration because it failed to report safety defects in a timely manner.
This deal with the federal government is not related to the billion-dollar class-action settlement reached with Toyota owners over falling vehicle values, and it's also different from the roughly 400 lawsuits still in courts alleging personal injury of wrongful death due to cases of unintended acceleration. In other words, don't expect to hear the end of such courtroom verdicts and settlements anytime soon...

Toyota responds to video of Highlander ramming house [w/video]

Thu, 18 Apr 2013

There are, as they say, two sides to every story, so after we posted a video on Monday showing what an owner claimed to be a case of unintended acceleration causing her Toyota Highlander to crash into a house twice, Toyota reached out to us revealing some additional information about the incident.
Following this crash, which took place back in November, Toyota had this Highlander inspected and pulled data from its Event Data Recorder (EDR), or Black Box as we've come to call it. Not only was this the first time we've seen a claim of unintended acceleration like this caught on video, but now, also a first, we have actual data showing what the vehicle itself recorded during this frightening ordeal.
Brian Lyons, Toyota Communications Manager for Safety and Quality, first gave us some information about the Highlander in question, including the fact that it was a 2012 model. The 2012 Highlander came from the factory with a brake override system, meaning it was not part of the company's initiative in 2010 to add the system to all 2011 models. Also, after looking at the data from the EDR, he said - as many of you pointed out in the comments for the previous post - that the "brake pedal was never touched." In the video, you can see that the crossover's brake lights never come on, and the EDR's data backs this up.

Toyota begins shipping Le Yaris to America

Fri, 17 May 2013

Our tiniest Toyota (Scion iQ notwithstanding) is about to get a little French flair. The Japanese automaker announced Thursday that its Toyota Motor Manufacturing France facility would begin building Yaris models destined for North America - specifically, the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. This will mark the first time in history that Toyota has exported vehicles to North America from Europe.
Initially, Toyota will export roughly 25,000 Yaris models to North American markets from France each year. In order to handle this additional production, Toyota Motor Manufacturing France has invested 10 million euro into its French facility.
Despite being somewhat of a snooze-fest (it's a car!), the Yaris carries on in North America with a 106-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with prices starting at $14,370 for the three-door and $15,395 for the five-door, not including $795 for destination.
