1975 Toyota FJ 40 Land Cruiser
This car is my daily driver, and has been for the past 3 years.  I have enjoyed driving it around town and taking it on road trips.  It has been a super reliable vehicle for me.
I am setting up this auction to determine the value of this vehicle.  I have a price that I would like to get out of the vehicle, and I will set that as the reserve in this auction.
I estimate that in the first 2 years of owning this vehicle I spent approximately $25,000 in upgrades.
I have recorded a youtube video to explain all of the mechanical and cosmetic upgrades that have been done to the vehicle.  The video was a little long, so it had to be split into two video clips on youtube. The links to the videos on YouTube are:

All of the smog equipment has been removed, so if this is an issue in your state, please take note of this!
You can call me (Dave) directly at 913-207-6116 if you have any questions. However, I would request that you please watch the video(s) before calling as I have covered many details there.

The odometer shows 88,037 but this mileage will go up because it is my daily driver.  Also, I do not believe that this mileage is accurate.  I have no idea how many times the odometer may have turned over before I owned the vehicle.  The engine was rebuilt in 2001 by the previous owner.  I became the owner of this vehicle approximately 3 years ago.

I have included some pictures in this listing, however, if you are wanting any other specific pictures of the vehicle please send me an email and let me know exactly what you are looking for and I will take and send pictures for you as well!

I will only accept actual cash or a cashier's check for payment on this vehicle.  Please do not expect me to be flexible on this.  Ebay has it set up to accept a deposit through paypal, however, the final balance will be due at the time you come to pick up the vehicle with cash or cashiers check!  I would like to have the vehicle picked up within 7 days of the auction ending.  However, I understand it may take more time for some people, so please email before the ending of the auction to discuss possibilities if you think you will need extra time to get here to pick up the vehicle. If I do not receive an email from you, I will hold you to the 7 days from the end of the auction for pick up and final payment.

Toyota pimps out Esquire van for Japanese businessmen [w/video]

Wed, 29 Oct 2014

A few months back we reported on a dealership owner in Japan who was petitioning Toyota to make a luxury van. The problem, he reasoned, was that he couldn't take as many friends, colleagues and clients around with him in his Lexus LS, and his Toyota Alphard van wasn't luxurious enough. Well, it seems like he wasn't alone, and Toyota has listened.
The Japanese auto giant has just revealed the Esquire, a new luxury van designed with just such customers in mind. It's significantly smaller than the Sienna we get in America, smaller than the aforementioned Alphard and about the same size as (this writer's favorite) the JDM Noah van (on which we gather it's based). But what sets the Esquire apart is its upscale appearance.
The boxy van is distinguished by its dominant T-shaped chrome grille with a unique emblem that encompasses a shield, sword, "the collar of a gentleman's suit" and the letters Esq. The flank is characterized by a strong beltline with chrome lower window frame and an expansive greenhouse with tinted rear glass. Inside the flexible cabin you'll find accommodation for seven or eight passengers (depending on specification), synthetic leather upholstery and wood and metallic trim. There are even wheelchair-enabled models on offer as well.

Consumer Reports says infotainment systems 'growing first-year reliability plague'

Mon, 27 Oct 2014

The Consumer Reports Annual Auto Reliability Survey (right) is out, and the top two spots look much the same as last year's list with Lexus and Toyota in first and second place, respectively. However, there are some major shakeups for 2014, with Acura plunging eight spots from third in 2013 to 11th this year, and Mazda replaces it on the lowest step of the podium. Honda and Audi round out the top five. This year's list includes six Japanese brands in the top 10, two Europeans, one America and one Korean.
Acura isn't the only one taking a tumble, though. Infiniti is the biggest loser this year by dropping 14 spots to 20th place. Other big losses come from Mercedes-Benz with an 11-place fall to 24th, and GMC, which declines 10 positions to 19th.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's not traditional mechanical bugs hauling down these automaker's reliability scores. Instead, pesky problems with infotainment systems are taking a series toll on the rankings. According to Consumer Reports, complaints about "in-car electronics" were the most grumbled about element in new cars. Problem areas included things like unresponsive touchscreens, issues pairing phones and multi-use controllers that refused to work right.

Toyota 86 most likely to get more power through more displacement? [w/poll]

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

The Sydney Morning Herald has spoken to Tetsuya Tada, chief engineer of the Toyota 86 (our version of it, the Scion FR-S, is pictured above), and they've been promised that more power is on the way. We've heard a lot of speculation about a more powerful Toyobaru since before the standard model was even launched. The only question now is how the power will be delivered, and among the engine concepts we've already heard about - turbo, supercharger, twin-charged, hybrid - is a new one: more displacement.
Tada said that an engine with more displacement than the current coupe's 2.0 liters is being tested alongside a turbocharged and a hybrid-assisted motor. The SMH cites "inside sources" as saying the displacement option is the one likely to get the go-ahead, and suggests increased bore and stroke will see the engine grow to 2.5 liters, horsepower to about 250 - a 50-hp increase over the present car.
While that's apparently the betting man's solution for the long-awaited increase in gumption, what happens with the next generation could be more wide open than we suspected. According to the report, Tada "hinted that [a successor] could be a radically different car, potentially dropping the boxer engine altogether." He said once they've sorted out the concept for the second generation car, then they'll sort out an engine. That's where a turbo option could come to market, perhaps the turbocharged four-cylinder Toyota is developing for the Lexus NX crossover or a hybrid system that uses a capacitor.
