ALL Original 1978 FJ55 Toyota Land cruiser

Up for sale is a beautifully preserved all original 1978 FJ55 Toyota Landcruiser.  This FJ55 is in excellent condition for its age.  All the original aspects of the Landcruiser include:

-Original matching #'s frame and Engine.
-Original floormats in excellent condition throughout.
-Original Toyota tool kit, Jack, Crank rod and tire changing extension rods.
-Original dash with intact stock Radio.  All electrical components work throughout the Landcruiser.  Rear window cruises up and down with ease, both with the key and with the dash switch.
-Original 1978 Toyota Manuals that can with the Landcruiser when it was purchased.  Including the original Oregon Title and (2) original Factory Toyota keys.
-Original seats front and rear.  Original paneling, steering wheel, ashtrays, armrests and Toyota factory seatbelts.

-Original paint except for the white top which the original owner painted.
-Gutters are flawless with no traces of rust at all.
-Wheel wells and the underneath of this landcruiser are completely rust-free.

I am the 2nd owner of the this Landcruiser and still thoroughly enjoy driving it.  It has been in Oregon its entire life and garaged everyday as you can see.  Took me a long time to find an FJ55 this nice.  It is not perfect and does have some imperfections:

-Previous owner backed into a light-pole.  Driver's side rear panel.
-Very little rust, but it does exist....driver's side rocker, a few places along the rear window sills.
-Weatherstripping is intact but would need to be replaced eventually.
-Windshield has a bullseye crack in it but has been sealed.
-Driver's side seat has a tiny crack in the vinyl.

This FJ55 starts and drives great.  Manual transmission shifts smoothly through all (4) gears and 4wd works perfectly.  Rear heater and front heater work great.  New tires.
I am selling this Landcruiser as is.  I am also selling locally so I may end the auction early if it sells.  Send me an email if you have any questions and I will be glad to get back to you.

Toyota found not at fault in alleged unintended acceleration crash

Fri, 11 Oct 2013

Toyota has already paid out millions and billions of dollars in settlements surrounding unintended acceleration, but the first lawsuit in the matter, which headed to a California court in July, has reached a verdict. Following the 2009 death of Noriko Uno, whose 2006 Camry was hit by another car and then sped out of control before crashing into a tree, the jury found that Toyota was not at fault in the crash.
Even though the 2006 Camry (shown above) wasn't involved in any of the unintended acceleration-related recalls and it was not equipped with a brake override, Automotive News reports that the jury's verdict says there was no defect in the car and actually blames the entire incident on the driver that ran into Uno's car - to the tune of $10 million. The accident started when the other driver ran a stop sign and hit Uno's car, and the report says that medical conditions (including diabetes) caused Uno to fail to stop her Camry.
The AN article also states that this lawsuit was a bellwether case for around 85 other personal-injury and wrongful-death suits against Toyota, but there are still many impending suits across the country. Scroll down for an official statement on this particular case from Toyota.

Hurricane Sandy cost automakers 15,000 vehicles, may have ruined up to 200k

Wed, 07 Nov 2012

Hurricane Sandy was the largest Atlantic storm in US history, and its total economic impact is just now coming into view. According to Automotive News, Toyota, Chrysler, Nissan and Honda are set to scrap around 15,000 new vehicles ruined by the storm. Nissan alone accounts for about 40 percent of those, with 6,000 Nissan and Infiniti models deeded "un-saleable" due to damage. The company saw 56 dealerships shuttered due to the storm, but 51 of those have since reopened.
Toyota, meanwhile, had some 4,000 vehicles at its Newark port facility, and of those, 3,000 may be scrapped. An additional 825 were dealer inventory when they were ruined. Honda and Acura dealers are reportedly sending 3,440 vehicles to the salvage yard. By comparison, Chrysler weathered the storm fairly well with 825 units destroyed, while Hyundai suffered only 400 lost units and Kia scrapped around 200.
As you may recall, Fisker also suffered some losses, and Automotive News reports the manufacturer saw 320 Karma models damaged beyond repair. Ford and General Motors have yet to come up with estimates, and no automaker has commented on the full cost of replacing the vehicles.

Vote to unionize Toyota Canada plant faces delay

Fri, 04 Apr 2014

Volkswagen isn't the only automaker with high-profile unionization efforts afoot at one of its North American factories. Unifor, Canada's largest private-sector union, is attempting to organize Toyota's factories in Ontario, reports Reuters. A vote was originally set for next week, but Unifor has apparently found more workers eligible to vote, delaying the proceedings. It hasn't rescheduled the ballot yet, but claims there are 7,500 employees with the right to vote, with over 3,000 having already signed union cards.
Toyota is pushing against organizing, saying that workers already have a payment and benefits near the top of the industry, and noting that it has never laid off a permanent employee in Canada. Unifor has reportedly countered by saying that about a quarter of the workforce is operating under a temporary contract, which receives lower benefits.
The automaker has three factories in Ontario - two in Cambridge and one in Woodstock. To form a union, a majority of eligible employees must vote to join Unifor. If successful, they would be the first wholly owned Toyota plants in North America to be organized. Previous attempts to unionize the Japanese automaker's Canadian factories in 2001 and 2008 failed due to lack of support.
