1978 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 with a B Diesel Engine
I recently purchased this beauty with the hopes I could work towards a restoration and use it as a daily driver through the process. As fortune would have it, I am stepping into a new position at work that requires much more travel and no longer have the time, location and on-hand funds to give to this project. It is too cool of a car to just have sitting around. It wants to be driven and loved. It has a B Diesel Engine, one of the main reasons I was initially interested. It starts up with no problem and runs beautifully. I was hoping to get it running on vegetable oil or biodiesel in the future, though I never did much research on it. From what I have heard, it is a fairly easy and inexpensive switch and would only add to the appeal of this truck. The batteries and radiator were recently replaced. I added four new tires and a few other cosmetic things (door handle, shifter knob...) and started purchasing a few other parts (lower thermostat housing). It needs some brake work in order to be a reliable driver. I was going through a landcruiser mechanic in town for help with this but decided I could not justify a project car when I have so many other things going on in my life and another vehicle I have to deal with as well. I was planning on upgrading to disc brakes and bought an axle from an FJ60 that I will include for you to use and upgrade if you would like. The headlights and tail lights seem to work fine, though I would probably want new wiring in the future. As it is a 36 year old vehicle that hasn't seen much use in the last ten years or so, other things will need to be addressed and replaced eventually (seals and gaskets, bulbs, etc.). The interior is in surprisingly good shape, though I removed the door panels as they were warped. The left side rear door needs some work to open. It has an AC unit but no compressor. There's some surface rust and other rust, but I believe most of it has been bondoed prior to my purchase. Other than that, I don't know too much else. I love the look and feel of these cars and will definitely be on the hunt for one in the future, when I am ready to settle down and have the time and space for a project. As you know, these cars are built to last. I am sad to sell it, but I don't want a vehicle like this just sitting around on my property neglected. It would make a fun restoration project or even a rock crawler. |

Toyota TRD Pro lineup coming next week
Thu, 30 Jan 2014A mysterious Toyota commercial recently popped up on YouTube teasing a new TRD Pro lineup for the Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner, and now we're getting our first official word straight from the automaker on the matter. Courtesy of its Facebook page, Toyota is promising that the TRD Pro models will be introduced on February 6th, ready to "conquer the great outdoors."
This date just so happens to mark the first day of the always-truck-friendly Chicago Auto Show, so while Toyota isn't saying as much, we're almost certain the trucks will show up next week in the Windy City. It's not clear what sort of upgrades TRD Pro brings, but it definitely includes black wheels and a tweaked front end featuring a thick, single-bar grille and bold lettering in place of the stylized Toyota logo (shown above on the Tundra).

Honda scores big in Automobile Advertising of the Year Awards [w/videos]
Wed, 15 Jan 2014This year the Detroit Auto Show didn't just celebrate the automobile, it celebrated how we find out about the automobile, too. Partnering The One Club, this year introduced the 2014 One Show Automobile Advertising of the Year Award to Cobo Hall, celebrating winners in five different categories of advertising: broadcast television, online, interactive, experiential, and print/outdoor. Winners in those categories were judged by 50 creative directors and journalists, while a Public Choice category was chosen from among nearly 20,000 online votes.
Honda walked off with three of the six awards, its Hands spot taking Broadcast honors, its Sound of Honda getting the Online category and Illusions winning Public Choice. Hyundai made the grade in Interactive with Driveway Decision Maker, Fiat captured Print/Outdoor with its "Letters" ad, and Toyota's Tundra Endeavor Campaign spot and BMW's A Window into the Near Future were co-winners for Experiential.

Audi, Toyota land on MIT's list of 50 Most Disruptive Companies
Sat, 23 Feb 2013MIT Technology Review, a magazine all about innovation, has announced its list of the 50 most disruptive companies in 2013, and both Audi and Toyota made the cut. While the term "most disruptive" may carry a negative connotation in most uses (especially in the classroom), the acknowledgement in this case is an accolade, signifying that the company is at the forefront of its industry. In a nutshell, a disruptive company is a business whose innovations force other businesses to alter their strategic direction.
Audi made the list for "pushing autonomous cars closer to fruition with a laser-scanning road detector that fits in a vehicle's front grille," and Toyota for "expanding its dominance of the hybrid-car market with its new plug-in version of the Prius."
