Its hard to find a Land Cruiser in this condition, from 1984.
This FJ60 must have spent the majority of its life in California or Arizona, it is in great shape. It has all four of its original Factory Mud Flaps, and yes they are attached with the original hardware ! We purchased it in SLC a little over a year ago. We have upgraded the ignition system with a DUI Distributer and "fire-wires" from DUI. A little hotter spark plug, some carburetor work and adjusted the valves. Now she runs and drives like a Cruiser should. The previous owner had replaced the suspension with an Old Man Emu complete kit and this Cruiser rides nice, both on and off the blacktop. She has plenty of miles on the odometer, but they must be all highway because she is still running strong. This Cruiser is a fine example of how durable a properly maintained Cruiser can be. The interior is in good shape. The front seats should be recovered and the dash has a hole/crack in the speaker panel. All lights are in working order and the electrical system appears to be original and "un-molested" . We have owned 4 or 5 FJ60's over the years, and this one is in the best shape we have ever owned. It appears to have had regular service and garaged, all its life. The paint was original and the previous owned did a good job in keeping it clean. We felt it was time for a bit of a "make-over" so we had it painted this winter. the entire body was sanded, sealed and painted its original color. |

Jay Leno gets behind the curtain on the design of the Toyota FT-1 concept
Mon, 07 Apr 2014Hinting at the future of Toyota performance vehicles, the FT-1 concept was one of the stars of the Detroit Auto Show this year. It even nabbed fourth place in our Editors' Choice list. While he's a few months behind the car's official reveal, Jay Leno managed to get the only existing concept of the sports coupe wheeled into his garage to take a closer look, and he's pretty impressed.
Leno speaks with Alex Shen and William Chergosky, the exterior and interior chief designers of the FT-1 respectively, to get a better idea of the inspirations behind the concept. Jay heaps high praise on it for mixing Italian and Japanese design and says he likes the look even more than the Lexus LFA. The coupe isn't a product of either country, though. It was penned at Toyota's CALTY Design Research center in Newport Beach, CA.
The designers go into the entire history of the FT-1, and Shen even admits that Toyota design lacks an emotional factor at the moment. It's a fascinating interview behind some of the little touches you might miss at first glance. Unfortunately, the model doesn't have the green light for production yet and may never get made. Toyota i-Road is no less strange in the flesh
Tue, 05 Mar 2013We've seen plenty of three-wheeled creations in our day, but none quite like the Toyota i-Road Concept. The "personal mobility vehicle" offers seating for two with driver and passenger positioned in a tandem position. While that may sound more like a motorcycle than a car, the closed cockpit means riders don't need a helmet. The design also takes a page from the 2008 Peugeot HyMotion3 Concept with an articulating front suspension that allows the driver to lean through corners thanks to "Active Lean" self-balancing technology. Unlike the funky Pug, however, the i-Road is a fully electric plug-in vehicle.
While there are just five-horsepower on hand from an electric motor, the i-Road should serve up a range of around 30 miles thanks to its lithium-ion battery, and Toyota claims the cells can be topped off in three hours with a "conventional domestic power supply." Tesla now California's top automotive employer
Fri, 16 May 2014Tesla has knocked off Toyota as the biggest auto employer in the state of California, employing over 6,000 people to the Japanese company's 5,300. That lead is only likely to grow, as the EV manufacturer prepares to add another 500 jobs by the end of the year, and as Toyota begins its relocation to its new North American headquarters in Texas. The news comes barely a week after the company announced a $50 million loss during the first quarter of 2014.
Tesla's statewide employment could be set to double, beyond even 6,500 people, if it follows through on rumors to construct its eagerly awaited gigafactory in the Golden State. The $5-billion venture could add another 6,500 employees, making Tesla not just the largest automotive employer in the state, but making it one of the largest employers in the state full stop.
The investment of Tesla and its founder (and real-life Tony Stark), Elon Musk, has been substantial. The company has added 3,000 employees in the state since 2013, reopening the Toyota and General Motors joint-venture factory that use to be known as NUMMI in 2009 and constructing a design studio in Los Angeles, all in addition to its Palo Alto headquarters.
