Up for auction is my 1985 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser.  Chances are if your looking at this you already know what awesome vehicles these can be.  I purchased this mid summer wanting to restore it but I have since changed my mind to wanting a 80 Series Cruiser instead.  This LC has had 2 previous owners and has been in Ohio its whole life.  Fortunately when it was new the owner took it to Tuff-Kote Dinol and had the entire truck undercoated.  This has kept the frame and undercarriage in good shape over the years.  Dont get me wrong it does have rust but no bad scaling or broken frame pieces like you might expect for a Cruiser in Ohio.  As you can see from pics the body has some rust and holes but nothing that couldn't be fixed.   I lifted carpet and looked at usual trouble spots around wheel wells and this area is in very good shape.  Inside back sill by tailgate is rust free as well.

This LC is not currently road ready.  It has not run in a couple years at least.   Previous owner said last time it ran was in 2008 or so.  She couldnt really remember.  I poured some gas down the carb a couple days ago and filled the float bowl so the sight window was full and then tonight I checked oil for any moisture and it was clean and moisture free so I put a battery in it and she fired right up.  Got it to idle for a few seconds while my buddy poured gas into the carb.  Motor sounded good and I think with a carb clean or possible rebuild it will be good to go.  The gas tank was empty as well.  I put a container of dry gas in it along with about 2 gallons of gas and the gauge went up slightly.  I loosened the fuel inlet line at the carb and some gas did spray out so its getting to carb.  I'd guess the float or needle is stuck from sitting.  I havent dug into it any further yet.  I did notice the choke cable is froze and will need replaced or lubed.  It looks like all SMOG equipment is still installed too.  You can tell by the shape of the interior that this LC has led a pretty easy life.  All body mounting points and frame crossmembers are in good  shape.  Inner fenders  etc etc are all solid.  All windows roll down and all doors lock.  The back door opens and locks as it should too.  Both bumpers are in decent shape and the truck has a hitch and is wired for a plug too.  When pushing in the clutch it has a good feel to it though I havent driven it yet.   Looking around under the truck it appears to have newer brake lines and the fuel supply lines are in good shape as far as I can tell.  I think this LC is a great candidate to save and fix the body and drive it for many years to come.

The interior is in really nice shape.  The carpet and seats have a few stains but with a good shampoo and vacuum they would be respectable as is.  The headliners nice and tight too.  All gauges appear to work and it has an aftermarket radio in it as well as an auxilary cigarette lighter outlet for a GPS or cell phone car charger.  All heater functions work and the blowers work too.  This LC has the rear heater in it too.  All wipers work and the front washers work too.  All lights and turn signals work as they should as well.  This LC also has cruise control.  Please checkout the pics and let me know if you have questions.  I am looking to move this quickly so if you have an offer please dont be shy, worst I'll say is no.  If you have an 80 series to trade let me know too.

Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them.  I can work with you on shipping.  I have included a USHIP link in this auction so you can get an estimated cost from them if the LC needs transported. I have for sale locally and I do reserve the right to end auction for local sale.  Cash upon pickup is good or wire transfer or Paypal is good too.  I can take credit cards too.   Clean paper in hand.  **This is being relisted due to a nonpaying buyer on the last auction.  If you dont intend to pay then dont bid, its really pretty simple.  Pls dont waste my time and I wont waste yours**  Thank You for looking and good luck!

Toyota asking NHTSA for fuel cell car safety exemption regarding electric shocks

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

Toyota is requesting an exemption from federal safety regulations that govern electric cars as it prepares to launch a small-scale hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle fleet.
The Japanese automaker is targeting Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 305, which covers the packaging of high-voltage parts in electric cars. According to Uncle Sam, these systems need to be isolated so that passengers and first responders aren't electrocuted in the event of a crash. That seems pretty smart, but it's become a problem for Toyota's upcoming production fuel cell vehicle, as the mechanism that prevents electric shocks in low-speed crashes will apparently simply keep Toyota's car from even functioning.
Instead of the federally approved system, Bloomberg reports that Toyota plans to insulate the high-voltage wires and cables in the car, along with shielding electrical components like the fuel cells, electric motor and batteries with (presumably non-conductive) metal barriers.

Toyota ready to get dirty with new TRD Pro Series

Thu, 06 Feb 2014

To the general public, Toyota is often thought of as a maker of bland but dependable cars, crossovers and SUVs that get their owners and a whole herd of whatever from Point A to Point B. Generally speaking, they're fuel efficient, comfortable and affordable. What the general public may not realize, however, is that Toyota enjoys a very strong history of going off road, too. The legendary Land Cruiser arguably established the trend, helping explore remote parts of the globe, while various guerilla warfare outfits and world military branches have unwittingly joined up with the boys from Top Gear to help cement the Hilux pickup's reputation for invincible performance. Now, though, Toyota is launching a new line of trucks and SUVs in the US that are even more explicitly targeted at hitting the trails. Meet the TRD Pro Series.
Featuring the 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra, each Pro Series vehicle features TRD-tuned springs with Bilstein shocks, a TRD front skid plate, a TRD shifter, black wheels, branded floor mats and a "TOYOTA" grille badge, the latter of which harkens back to classic models. TRD Pro Series vehicles will be offered in the new Inferno paint color shown above, as well as Black and Super White.
The Tundra benefits from softer TRD springs that also provide a two-inch lift and a better ride in the rough, while the truck itself rides on 18-inch wheels with Michelin ORP tires. Each truck gains an extra two inches of wheel travel in front and 1.25 inches in back, while a TRD dual exhaust should generate a nicer sound than the trucks's standard V8 engine. Finally, a unique interior with red contrast stitching freshen up the cabin. We wouldn't go so far as to call this a Ford F-150 SVT Raptor fighter - far from it, in fact - but it's a bit more off-road oriented than your average pickup.
