Up for sale is a rare, legally imported and currently titled in Virginia, 1983 Diesel Toyota Land Cruiser model BJ46. The BJ46 is a factory extended version of the iconic FJ40 with a 14” longer wheel base and the desirable & fuel efficient 3.4L 4 cylinder 3B Toyota Diesel power plant mated to a 4-speed transmission and 2-speed transfer case. This truck was directly imported from Japan, so it is a right hand drive truck, has a 24-volt (dual batteries) electrical system and a factory PTO winch (I think it has never been used/original wire tie on cable still in place). This BJ46 has factory fog lights, a 2nd row factory bench back seat (facing forward) that can accommodate 3 people or folds down, push button vacuum activated 4WD, factory power assisted clutch, factory power disc brakes, factory power steering, factory Asuper glow plug system, factory air conditioning, rotary Diesel injection pump, factory oversized mirrors mounted on front fenders, sliding glass windows on hard top, swing out rear ambulance doors, factory chrome bumper, bumperettes and grill, original spare tire carrier, 5 new tires, new metal rain gutter, new headliner, fresh paint done in Toyota's distinct Freeborn Red (color code 309) with all Toyota glass in really good shape. This truck has been gone over with a fine toothed comb and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. It starts up immediately, even when cold, with just a bump of the starter.

A little history: Toyota made the 40 series Land Cruiser from 1960 to 1984. This 1983 has all the improvements and refinements that evolved over the 20+ years of Land Cruisers that preceded it while still retaining that classic 40 series look.

Toyota raises Japanese base wages for first time since 2008

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

Toyota is on track for record profits, and in return, its Japanese workers are receiving their first increase in base wages since 2008, plus higher pay based on seniority and a larger bonus for 2014. The Japanese automaker predicts the average laborer will net a 2.9 percent income gain.
The average Toyota employee will earn 2,700 yen ($26.28) more each month, a 0.8 percent increase from last year. Workers will also receive about 7,300 yen ($71.09) more monthly based on seniority and promotions. Finally, the company's union pushed through a median bonus of 2.44 million yen ($23,768) for 2014, the highest in 6 years.
The pay boost comes as Toyota forecasts a record 1.9-trillion yen ($18.5 billion) profit for the fiscal year ending on March 31, according to Bloomberg. It has been helped by the Japanese government's efforts to weaken the yen on international markets and expand inflation. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been asking businesses to increase compensation to end years of deflation and offset upcoming higher sales taxes. Honda and Nissan have also raised their wages there in recent months.

Toyota mints 10-millionth vehicle in Kentucky

Fri, 30 May 2014

In 26 years, from 1988 up to now, the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky plant in Georgetown has built ten million vehicles - nearly enough for every citizen of Seoul, Korea or the nation of Hungary. The first car to roll off the line back when the claymation California Raisins were singing old Marvin Gaye hits and everybody wanted to know Who Framed Roger Rabbit? was a white Camry. The ten-millionth car to roll off the line among the Avalons and Venzas also produced there: a white Camry Hybrid.
Toyota has put $5.9 billion into the site since its inception, employment is up to 7,000 associates and will grow when Lexus ES350 assembly begins next year. Whereas car number one is a showpiece for the ages, one of the automaker's current associates will get to win the ten-millionth car in a blind drawing to be held this summer.
There's a press release below with more information on the impressive milestone.

Toyota to start production of hydrogen vehicles in December

Sun, 08 Jun 2014

Toyota's hydrogen fuel cell vehicle will be in showrooms sooner than planned, the Japan Times reporting that production will commence in mid-December with the sedan following "by the end of this year." No reason was given for the new timeline; Toyota has been saying all along that we'd see it in 2015.
The company is said to be "considering" production volume of "dozens of... vehicles per month" at a "likely" price of eight million yen, which is $78,030 US. That is well in line with the numbers thrown around last year, when the target was somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000. Then late last year, during our first drive of the FCHV mule, we wrote that "the official quote... [is] that a price of 'less than 10 million yen is ideal.'"
That alleged $78K is a sizable sum to be one of the early adopters on the hydrogen fuel cell wagon train, but with things moving around so much - and with Toyota publicly citing hydrogen fuel cells as the future - there's plenty of reason to be cautious about that number.
