Toyota Landcruiser BJ60 conversion, This is a very nice conversion onto a FJ60 frame and body of the same year. I bought the original BJ60 Turbo Diesel in Canada that had a rusted out frame and body, But has very low miles on exceptional running gear, ( only 132,xxx miles on it ). I had a clean FJ60 i purchased to fix up a bit for a hunting and camping rig, But decided to do a complete conversion onto the FJ60 rather than try to repair the frame and body of the BJ60. So the FJ60 got completely striped down to shell sitting on frame, With every thing out of the interior, seats, doors, carpet, dash, wiring harnes, seat belt, And the frame striped clean of all axles ,springs, brake lines, fuel lines. In preperation for cleaning, repainting, and installing new nuts and bolts where the old ones where worn. All the running gear from the BJ60 was installed onto the frame using new mounts, nuts, and bolts. Then the interior was all cleaned and the using the best of both was reinstalled into the new conversion.

The motor and  drive train have only 132,xxx miles on them and are in great shape. It runs and drives great and is a lot of fun to drive, It gets 30+ miles to the gallon in the freeway, And in the upper twentys around town. The motor is a Toyota 3BT Turbo Diesel, With a 5 Speed transmision, with a manuel transfer case. It runs smooth and quite.Goes down the road super nice and straight, Very smooth with no problems

The frame is in near perfect condition, Just the normal dirt and road grime on it from 30 years, So it was cleaned and recoated with the spray on under coater and it looks nice and clean for the most part, I didn't go crazy on it cause it didn't need it.

The axles are out of the low miles BJ60 and were cleaned, sanded and repainted before reinstalling, they are in great shape with newer brakes.  The hubs, rotors, pads, and linings all are in great shape.

The Cruiser has new Old Man Emu 3 inch lift springs up front that are the right ones for the extra weight of the diesel, It also has a shackel reversal kit installed up front, There are lift springs in the rear and a 2 inch body lift to clear the tires and what ever else you need to go over.

The tires are 33 inch BFG all terrains and the front tires have 80% to 85% tread, The rear tires a brand new, And the spare is a match and has 80% to 85% tread in it, And the spare is mounted underneath in the rear.

The body was in good shape with only minor dents and minor rust in the rear wheel wells, I do body and paint work so the repair on the body was easy with just a couple minor dent repairs, The rust was removed and refiberglassed, Its been completely repainted including the door jams, useing quality products, It has 3 coats of epoxy primer, 4 coats of urethane base coat, And 4 coats urethane clear top coat. It looks very nice and should hold up for years to come.

Over all this Landcruiser is in very exellent condition, ( 9 out of 10 ) with no problems and will be a lot of fun for years to come!

Toyota recalling 1.9M Prius models globally for software update

Wed, 12 Feb 2014

Toyota has announced a set of voluntary recalls covering 960,000 Prius, RAV4, Tacoma and Lexus RX350 models in the United States to address two separate issues. Worldwide, Toyota will have to recall a total of 1.9 million Prius cars.
The Prius recall affects about 700,000 2010-2014 models in the US, due to a fault in the motor/generator control ECU and hybrid control ECU software. It says that the current software could result in high temperatures on certain transistors and possibly damage them. When it fails, the error forces the car into failsafe mode. Toyota says that in rare circumstances, it could even shut the hybrid system down while the car is being driven.
Toyota spokeswoman Shino Yamada told Automotive News that the software update should take about 40 minutes, and dealers would start to be notified about affected vehicles today. She also told them that the first reported glitch occurred in May 2011 in the US when the system overheated and the car entered failsafe mode. The affected cars were built between March 2009 and Feb. 5, 2014, according to Automotive News. Toyota says that it has received no reports of accidents or injuries caused by either fault.

Toyota launches new Pixis Epoch kei car in Japan

Sat, 12 May 2012

Kei cars may be small in size, but they're big business in Japan. The latest arrival to the category is the little hatch you see above, the Toyota Pixis Epoch.
It's the fourth vehicle produced by the Daihatsu division but sold under the Toyota brand. As with other keis, power comes from a 660cc engine. It's mated to a continuously variable transmission driving either just the front wheels or all four. In both configurations, the Pixis Epoch features a stop-start system that helps its emissions and fuel efficiency figures come in well below even the Japanese government's stringent standards.
The whole package measures just 3,395 mm (133 inches) long, 1,475 mm (58 inches) wide and 1,500 mm (59 inches) tall, but offers a relatively spacious and utile interior, plus a tight turning radius of just 4.4 meters. Pricing ranges from 795,000 to 1.2 million yen - that's less than $10,000 (and no more than $15k). Further details in the press release after the jump.

Toyota builds world's first 'outdoor website' for RAV4 promo

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

This whole thing started with the premise that Toyota's target RAV4 buyers are people who spend their time cycling, hiking, and generally not in front of computer screens. These people are therefore not able to benefit from the full website experience that Toyota has built for the RAV4. We should clarify that the video below is for Toyota South Africa, and maybe RAV4 buyers there really are the disgustingly outdoorsy ideal that us bacon-eaters are not living up to.
Toyota's agency partner, Hello Computer, set up a 1.8-kilometer track at a cycle park that replicated sections of the automaker's website with real physical displays and interactive feedback. Riders were asked to leave their mouses and hit the trail on a mountain bike to experience the RAV4 Outdoor Website and learn about the vehicle.
That seems like a lot of effort for something that's available on the smartphones of these hyper-active people who aren't in front of computers, but hooray for creatively conquering a problem that didn't exist. Hey, let's not be complete wet blankets - maybe some of the cyclists that ran the Toyota gauntlet got a RAV4 for their to- and fro-ing after the experience. Check out the video of the outdoor website below.
