We got this car a little over a year ago and it has been flawless. It is a Certified pre-owned from Toyota in Atlanta and has a powertrain warranty until 100k miles. Is needs nothing and just had the oil changed at Evans Toyota in Fort Wayne. Drives great! Smoke free. We added the trailer hitch for our bike racks, it has NEVER towed. Has all the goodies, leather steering wheel, sunroof, auto dual zone climate control and JBL factory stereo with Bluetooth. Also has factory rubber mats. Model Overview A 166-horsepower, 2.4L four-cylinder engine is standard on the RAV4, matched only to a four-speed automatic transmission. The on-demand four-wheel-drive system seamlessly distributes power between the front and rear wheels in the ratio needed. It also includes a locking mode for low-traction situations below 25 mph, such as through mud or deep snow. The RAV4 uses an advanced Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system instead of a hydraulic system. EPS allows more precise control, improves fuel economy, and interfaces with the standard stability control system. Inside, the RAV4 features plenty of storage, with dual gloveboxes, a center console box, and a recessed rear compartment. There are two additional concealed compartments under the cargo area. Standard features on the base RAV4 include air conditioning, cruise control, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, and keyless entry. Equipment on the Sport model includes larger 18-inch alloy wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, fog lights, roof rails, smoked headlamp trim, and heated power mirrors. The Limited adds a number of luxury amenities such as dual-zone climate control, a six-disc in-dash CD changer, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, but brings a chrome grille and 17-inch six-spoke alloys.

Jay Leno gets behind the curtain on the design of the Toyota FT-1 concept

Mon, 07 Apr 2014

Hinting at the future of Toyota performance vehicles, the FT-1 concept was one of the stars of the Detroit Auto Show this year. It even nabbed fourth place in our Editors' Choice list. While he's a few months behind the car's official reveal, Jay Leno managed to get the only existing concept of the sports coupe wheeled into his garage to take a closer look, and he's pretty impressed.
Leno speaks with Alex Shen and William Chergosky, the exterior and interior chief designers of the FT-1 respectively, to get a better idea of the inspirations behind the concept. Jay heaps high praise on it for mixing Italian and Japanese design and says he likes the look even more than the Lexus LFA. The coupe isn't a product of either country, though. It was penned at Toyota's CALTY Design Research center in Newport Beach, CA.
The designers go into the entire history of the FT-1, and Shen even admits that Toyota design lacks an emotional factor at the moment. It's a fascinating interview behind some of the little touches you might miss at first glance. Unfortunately, the model doesn't have the green light for production yet and may never get made. In any case, scroll down to watch Leno swoon over the coupe.

Toyota delves into the history of its Land Cruiser

Fri, 06 Sep 2013

One of the longest-produced, most widely distributed vehicles in all of automotive history is also one of its most rugged: the Toyota Land Cruiser. With 60 years of continuous production, 14 different model lines and thousands of variations of the Jeep-like sports utility vehicle, the Land Cruiser became a success worldwide and developed a cult following among enthusiasts here in the US.
We'll be the first to admit that tracing the vehicle's lineage from its humble beginnings as a prototype for Japan's National Police Reserve in 1951 to what it is today isn't an easy task, especially when one considers that the types of Land Cruisers produced traditionally have varied from market to market. For example, the Land Cruiser sold in the US is very different from the US-only 40 series Land Cruiser-inspired FJ Cruiser, which is itself different from the Land Cruiser Prado sold in other world markets.
To cover the Land Cruiser's sixty-plus year history from start to present, someone over at Toyota UK was thoughtful enough to devote a plus-size blog post to it. It's worth a read if you have a spare 10 or 15 minutes - and even if you don't, you can check out our historical gallery above. Enjoy!

Toyota FT-1 Concept presents a future we want to live in [w/videos]

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

Toyota has brought its A game to the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, showing off the striking FT-1 Concept. Short for "Future Toyota," the FT-1 is, we're imagining, the supposed Supra Concept we reported on early in December.
Penned by the Calty Design Research team, the FT-1 draws inspirations from the FT-HS and the Lexus LF-LC concepts from 2007 and 2012, respectively. We certainly see a bit of Lexus LF-A in the design, while there's more than a hint of Formula One in the FT-1's pointed nose.
"Our team was heavily influenced by Toyota's sports car past, especially Celica and Supra, and we sought to capture some of that history. It is an aggressive, track-focused sports car concept with a presence that has been amplified for shock and awe," said Alex Shen, Calty's Studio Chief Designer.
