Up for auction today is my 2003 Toyota Sequoia that as you can see has a little front end damage. I have had several Sequoias in the past and bought this one to replace a Chevy Avalanche I had and hated and was going to fix this one up but a few days after buying this I found another Sequoia in the local paper at a distress sale price so this one was put in the garage and has remained there since so it is time to get rid of it. So now I offer it up at no reserve to make piece at home as it takes up a bit too much room. What I can tell you about this one is that it runs and drives fine. there is no frame damage at the hit was high and not very hard. radiator support is a bit bent but probably can be saved. Engine is quiet and sounds beautiful. Needs a new serpentine belt. Radiator and condenser are bent, radiator was pushed into the fan so you will need to replace the radiator as it is a little chewed up but again it was a light hit and these trucks can absorb a lot of impact without getting hurt too bad. Miles are around 159,000 and in Toyota speak that is just barely broken in. One of my Sequoia's had 350K miles and ran like new. Obviously you will need new headlights and hood, airbags were set off so you will need a new set. Windshield is bad. Other than the front impact area the exterior is otherwise very nice (rear hatch is fine, there are some weird shadows in the pictures but I assure you the rear hatch and the rest of the truck is in excellent shape) and with a nice wax this truck will shine like new. Interior is excellent, the seats are in excellent shape and overall the truck inside and out was kept exceptionally well (other than the accident). The dash cluster plexiglass is cracked no doubt from the driver airbag blowing or the driver impacting it. Tires are so-so, you'll probably want to replace them with new ones down the road. Rear hatch handle doesn't work (common to Sequoias), power rear window works fine. All windows work fine. In all this is an easy project that I just don't have the time for. Take a look at the pictures, if there is anything that you want to find out please feel free to ask me and I will be glad to assist. I can assist in shipping and I can deliver this if you live within a reasonable distance for an extra agreed upon fee. Thanks for looking and again please email me any questions.

Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Nissan recall 3.4 million vehicles for faulty airbags

Thu, 11 Apr 2013

Most vehicle recalls that take place these days are a result of some problem that happens during the manufacturing process by the automaker, but as we see here, parts suppliers can also factor in to problematic safety issues. Automotive News is reporting that a total of 3.4 million vehicles produced by Japanese automakers between 2000 and 2004 are being recalled globally due to faulty airbags produced by an outside supplier, Takata Corp.
According to the report, vehicles from Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda are being recalled because of passenger front airbags that do not inflate properly. Globally, Toyota is said to be recalling around 1.73 million cars including 510,000 in the US composed of Toyota Corolla, Matrix, Sequoia and Tundra as well as the Lexus SC430 for the 2001 through 2003 model years; this is the second time this year the 2003 Corolla and Matrix have been recalled for an airbag problem. Honda is recalling 1.14 million models, Nissan another 480,000 and Mazda 45,463. The article says that Takata supplied faulty airbags to non-Japanese automakers, but it did not specify which ones.
Honda and Toyota have released information on their own websites about the recall, while Nissan and Mazda have not yet commented. Read official press releases from Honda and Toyota, below, and look for updates as we have word from the others.

Toyota issues multiple recalls for 6.4 million vehicles worldwide

Wed, 09 Apr 2014

It looks like 2014 may go down as the year of recalls. We were already at a record pace, and now it seems Toyota is recalling 6.39 million vehicles worldwide, including about 30 of its models for a variety of problems. None of the faults have caused any injuries or fatalities, but there have been two reports of fires caused by a defective engine starter motor.
Toyota's numbers show 1.772 million vehicles being recalled in the US, but that includes some overlap because the Yaris is being repaired for multiple faults. According to The Detroit News, there are 2.36 million affected models in all of north North America, 1.09 million in Japan and 810,000 in Europe, plus smaller numbers in other regions.
Among the vehicles recalled in the US are 1.3 million units of the 2009-2010 Corolla, Matrix and Tacoma, the 2008-2010 Highlander, the 2006-2008 Rav4 and 2006-2010 Yaris. The problem is that the driver's airbag module is attached via a spiral electrical cable. The connections on the cable can be damaged when the steering wheel is turned, which deactivates the airbag and causes the airbag warning light to come on. Toyota is replacing the cable with an improved part, but it's still making preparations to begin the repair. The company is sending affected owners notifications in the mail. According to The Detroit News, an unspecified number of Pontiac Vibe vehicles are also included in this recall because it shares the part with the Matrix.

Jay Leno gets behind the curtain on the design of the Toyota FT-1 concept

Mon, 07 Apr 2014

Hinting at the future of Toyota performance vehicles, the FT-1 concept was one of the stars of the Detroit Auto Show this year. It even nabbed fourth place in our Editors' Choice list. While he's a few months behind the car's official reveal, Jay Leno managed to get the only existing concept of the sports coupe wheeled into his garage to take a closer look, and he's pretty impressed.
Leno speaks with Alex Shen and William Chergosky, the exterior and interior chief designers of the FT-1 respectively, to get a better idea of the inspirations behind the concept. Jay heaps high praise on it for mixing Italian and Japanese design and says he likes the look even more than the Lexus LFA. The coupe isn't a product of either country, though. It was penned at Toyota's CALTY Design Research center in Newport Beach, CA.
The designers go into the entire history of the FT-1, and Shen even admits that Toyota design lacks an emotional factor at the moment. It's a fascinating interview behind some of the little touches you might miss at first glance. Unfortunately, the model doesn't have the green light for production yet and may never get made. In any case, scroll down to watch Leno swoon over the coupe.
