1957 Ragtop Project Car with paint
Painted horizon blue by professional restoration shop several years ago but car sat and touchup is needed in spots, one bubble area just rear of drivers door is biggest and included in pictures, handful of paint nicks on rest of body, mostly on front nose and rear apron edges but overall body is in really nice shape
Body and fenders are very clean and straight otherwise
Roofline and ragtop area are very clean and straight
Dash is uncut and very clean
Beautiful 4 tab hood and W decklid, great doors and fenders, some surface rust under fenders and underside front and rear
Horizon blue looks like the original color too based on rear seat area
Bullet fenders and hella headlamps
New front and rear bumpers still in package, bumper mounts, some ragtop parts, aluminum rails, old ragtop with front and rear metal inserts, new brake parts, some brake lines and cables and all front and rear shocks in boxes new all go with car
Engine is 36 hp and was rebuilt by professional VW shop several years ago
I am not sure about whether transmission was rebuilt, so please assume it was not
Pans are definitely rusty and both sides should probably be replaced. There is a three inch round hole on the drivers side under the seat now where I pushed my hand through tonight which shows in the last picture and the drivers rear floor has small holes and is cracked, so the drivers side definitely needs replacement. The battery tray looks okay on passenger side, but if you are doing the drivers side, you might as well do both. It costs the same to ship two pans as it does to ship one. Anyway, figure on two new pans. In the rear package shelf area under the oval, there are two small holes in the rising floor the size of nickels. The bottom side of the car front and rear has surface rust from sitting outside for several years. The front wheels look 1957 era but rears do not. The tires are dry rotted and serve only to move the car around.
Heater channels need to be cleaned up on surface, but seem solid. I will not make any promises on the heater channels, though. I do not know enough about them or VW's. I am more than happy to send more pictures of any area you want to see. Please come to look at the car and inspect it in person.
No seats or steering wheel, no exterior door handles, no glass except for rear oval window glass, a few hardware pieces for ragtop, a few badges, three rear seats but not sure of years.
Body appears to be 1957 from decoding on Samba. Pan also appears to be 1957, but not the same number - this is not a matching numbers car. Also, if I decoded right, engine appears to be 1958 code
This is a great project car for right guy and real hard to find on East Coast
My son and I just bought it last week as a father/son project, but unfortunately we have to admit we have no experience with these VW cars and are in over our heads. If you know VW's, this would make an excellent start on a 1957 ragtop, especially if you like horizon blue
This car must be sold, so please bid accordingly
Call or text or email Bernard with any questions. Thank you and have a good day. Good luck bidding. This is a great car and we are sad to have to sell it.

Last VW bus ever made arrives at final destination
Fri, 31 Jan 2014A Brazilian politician tried to save it, unsuccessfully, so the final Last Edition Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi was produced on December 20, 2013 and now resides in a vintage museum at Volkswagen's Commercial Vehicles HQ in Hanover, Germany.
The Volkswagen Microbus was built for 56 years, starting in September 1957. Brazil was the last country still assembling it, but new safety regulations in the country requiring airbags and ABS on all cars spelled the end. When that politician introduced a bill that would pardon only the 'Bus from a death sentence, it couldn't garner the required number of votes for passage. The South American country takes the Kombi production title, though, with 1.5 million of the 3.5 million total made in the home of Copacabana beach and the girl from Ipanema.
The VW Bus is dead. Now perhaps we can turn our attentions to the still-not-totally-settled matter of the Bulli...
Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe Concept is an aspirational Jetta
Mon, 21 Apr 2014Meet the Volkswagen baby CC. Okay, that's not really it's name (VW calls it the New Midsize Coupe Concept), but this sleek, four-door coupe draws more than a little inspiration from the CC while riding on VW's MQB platform.
It's a looker, we think, and is an eye-pleasing departure from the bland styling of the current Jetta. The sleeker front end is complemented by a wider body overall (it's wider than a Passat), while the more sporting roofline and the sharp rear fascia gives the New Midsize Coupe a decidedly sporting character. LED head- and taillights add a bit more personality to this already stylish design.
Thanks to its 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder, it should get along rather sportingly, as well. The run to 62 miles per hour takes just 6.5 seconds thanks to the 217 horsepower on offer. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is also fitted, and contributes to an estimated 37 miles per gallon.
VW midsize crossover production headed for Chattanooga
Fri, 10 Jan 2014Potential labor woes aside, it looks like Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN factory must have done something that impressed the bosses in Germany, because it sounds like the three-year-old factory is set to score a second model.
The factory currently builds the Passat, and has been in the running alongside VW's Puebla, Mexico factory to build a new crossover vehicle, likely based on the CrossBlue Concept. According to Bloomberg, a pair of unnamed sources have confirmed that Chattanooga is the favorite ahead of an official announcement.
When last we heard about the CrossBlue Concept, word was that a production decision had been delayed over concerns about the three-row CUV's business case. That August 2013 story claimed that a decision regarding the CrossBlue would be pushed back until early in 2014, which means we're ripe for some sort of news, whether good or bad.
