1972 Vw Super Beetle on 2040-cars

This is a 1972 VW Super Beetle. I bought this car from a friend about 4 or 5 years ago and worked on it on and off until now. When he had it, it was parked in his garage 20 plus years.

When we had it painted it still had the original paint on it. The body on the car had very little rust. The under side of the car was in excellent condition. The car was fully disassembled to paint. And there are new front & rear fenders, only because there were some dents.

It has a new windshield and as you can see one piece door glass . All 4 glass moldings were replaced as well, along with 99% of the chrome.

On the outside I did away with the big turn signals on the fenders and exchanged them with aftermarket lights for a cleaner look.

There are no bumpers. I liked it better without.

The interior was completely redone.

The front was changed to coilovers, which you can adjust the height easily.

The brakes were redone and also has new wheels and tires.

This car may not be perfect, but standing beside it or 10 feet away it is without a doubt a very good looking car.

I'm sure there are a lot of things I forgot to put, and the only thing I did not detail was the motor. But, a good cleaning is really all it could use.

This car runs and drives great. It may need the carburetor rebuilt or I may just need driven. As I said, we just finished it and haven't driven it much. Now that its done, its time to move on to another project.

This may not have been a frame off restoration, but it was striped down to the shell, painted and put back together with just about everything new under the hood. The door jams are still the original paint. I didn't paint them because they still looked good and are original.

Thanks You!

Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept is a 201-mph hot hatch

Sun, 20 Apr 2014

This, friends, is what happens when you shoehorn 395 horsepower into a Golf. You get a three-door hatch that will happily scurry to 62 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 201 mph. Oh yes, we like you, Golf R 400 Concept.
As we explained in our original post, the R 400 is the long-awaited successor to bonkers Golf creations like the GTI W12 from 2007 and, more recently, the Design Vision GTI. It's powered by the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder found in a number of Volkswagen (and Audi, SEAT and Skoda) products, although it's been heavily massaged to pump out 332 pound-feet of torque along side its amplified horsepower.
Naturally, it's been lowered and now rides on 19-inch wheels. Outside of those changes, though, mums the word on suspension and chassis enhancements. While this is a bummer, the striking looks of the Golf R 400 more than make up for it.

NA auto output to reach 11-year peak

Thu, 13 Jun 2013

According to Automotive News, automakers are expected to manufacture 16 million light vehicles in North America in 2013. That's up 500,000 units from last year and marks the largest number since 2002. The prediction comes courtesy of LMC Automotive and IHS Automotive, which point to the improving US economy as a bellwether for total production. LMC Automotive says North America will produce 16 million vehicles while IHS has a slightly more optimistic forecast of 16.1 million units. A total of seven automakers are slated to increase production on the continent this year. Nissan is set to see the largest jump at 20 percent over last year.
Volkswagen, meanwhile, is one of the only manufacturers predicted to scale back production. Analysts expect the German company's output to fall by 23 percent to 170,000 units, thanks in part to slow demand for the Volkswagen Passat and Jetta.

VW debuts Get Happy Super Bowl ad

Mon, 28 Jan 2013

Brace yourself for another tidal wave of Super Bowl commercials. Volkswagen has released its spot for this year's big game. Set to air during the second quarter, the Get Happy spot follows one jubilant office worker as he makes his way through the day, spreading joy wherever he goes. The source of his happiness? A Volkswagen Beetle, of course. Now, if you're wondering why a gaggle of white guys are running around on your screen with Jamaican accents, it will help to know the spot is part of a larger Get Happy campaign featuring Jimmy Cliff.
The first ad in the series featured the artist singing his rendition of "C'Mon, Get Happy," complete with a little help from some notorious unhappy YouTube stars. You can take a look at the new ad before it airs below, along with the complete press release for a little more background.
