1973 VW Super Beetle

For sale is a nice Super Beetle.

Odometer shows 5,601.  In reality is probably 105,601 but I'm not sure.

Vehicle runs and drives great.  Starts right up, shifts easy, very fun to cruise around town.

Has the desirable pop-out windows in the back.

4-Speed Manual Transmission

Tires are a little older but seem to have good tread left on them and have done well.  Spare tire in front is flat and would need to be replaced before ever having to use.

Heater blower motor does not seem to work, and washer fluid bottle is missing, so windshield washer does not work either.

Radio was removed from vehicle at some point.

Rear side interior panels could use a little attention as the adhesive is starting to come loose some.

At some point in the last 40 years, someone either replaced the rear fenders with those of an older model, or just swapped out the taillights for the older "tombstone" style.  This is evident in the fact that the original "elephant foot" lights that came on '73 model VWs are not the style on this particular one.

Emergency/Parking brake works well.

Has that wonderful, distinct VW interior smell.

Vehicle is not rusted through anywhere, including floor pans and heater channels.  A few minor surface rust spots as shown in photos, that could easily be fixed.  In fact if you put a new paint job on this car it would look as good as some of the ones listed on here for much higher prices, and this one probably runs better anyway!

If you are looking for a VW to go win car shows with, this is not currently it -but it could be with very little effort.  If you are looking for a VW to jump right in and use as a daily driver, a weekend cruiser, or an easy restoration project, this old girl is calling your name!

Feel free to come by and see it in person or take it for a test drive.  Vehicle is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.

If you have any questions or concerns at all, PLEASE ASK BEFORE BIDDING!

Being sold AS-IS with no warranties.  No refunds or returns.

Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!

Volkswagen Group names Paefgen head of classics program

Tue, 04 Oct 2011

You may remember the name Franz-Josef Paefgen. Until recently, the German engineer and executive was head of both Bentley and Bugatti. Before that he was chief executive of Audi, after working for several years at Ford. He technically "retired" earlier this year, but like the cars he helped create, an executive like Paefgen could never really retire. So it should come as little surprise that the Volkswagen Group has named Dr. Paefgen head of its Classic program.
In his new capacity, Paefgen will oversee the historic automobile activities of the entire VW Group, including those of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, and of course Bentley and Bugatti. It strikes us as a suitable semi-retirement for the man responsible in no small part for the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Mulsanne, to name just two, and who was decorated in 2006 by the ACO as the "Spirit of Le Mans" for his contribution to endurance racing. Read the official announcement after the break.

VW redoes A-ha's 'Take On Me' music video

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Volkswagen has been responsible for its fair share of witty, clever commercials. "Tiny Vader" might be the most popular, but somehow, we think this newest spot will find a big audience. VW delivers not so much a cover, but a reimagining, of 1980s Norwegian pop band A-ha's famous music video for "Take On Me."
The original opens with an animated motorcycle race, which is revealed to be part of a comic book. VW's version replaces the motorcycle with a Passat, which strikes us as an oddly sober choice when there are cars like the GTI and Beetle in VW's portfolio. But never mind that - take a look down below for the entire 46-second spot. For reference, we've also included the original music video. And if you aren't a fan of the musical stylings of A-ha, just think, VW's choice of 1980s music could have been much worse.

2015 VW Golf R caught getting a flogging on 'Ring

Wed, 22 May 2013

The upcoming version of the Volkswagen Golf R is nearly ready for prime time, if this video of the car flying around the Nürburgring is any indication. The all-wheel-drive R seems to make quick, neat work of the corners we see here, and sounds pretty devilish in the process.
Expectations are that the new Golf R will run a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (what else?), tuned to produce even more than the current car's 256 horsepower. (Some sources have indicated outputs as high as 286 horsepower, with 280 pound-feet of torque. It's still not clear if Volkswagen will bring the six-speed dual-clutch transmission to the US-spec Golf R in this next go-round or if we'll stick to having only... eh... the stick.
In either case - watching the video below will only whet your appetite for the new, highest performing member of the Golf family.
