1974 VW SUPER BEETLE CONVERTIBLE

You are looking at a prime example of what a VW convertible would have been from the factory in 1974.  This beetle was completely restored in 2001 by the previous owner who bought the car for his daughter's 16th birthday and owned it for the following 25 years.  VERY well cared for.

EXTERIOR

Paint is a custom (not OEM) blue with OEM chrome accents.  Nothing aftermarket.  The paint has some minor peeling in areas that can be fixed easily (pictured)

INTERIOR

Black vinyl interior and carpet was installed during the restoration and is in great condition.  The tape deck pictured would need to be replaced, but the speakers are wired and functional newer units.

The foot well pans were replaced as well.

Odometer reading is not actual mileage

ENGINE

Bone stock, all original 1600 dual port.  California EGR still in place, never molested or abused.  This car has only been driven in the summer, and was in California prior to Colorado, so the heater boxes are disconnected.  New cables will be included with the sale.

The transmission was replaced by myself (ex-VW mechanic) a little over 4 months ago with a used, OEM unit.  Flushed and filled.  Shifts perfectly.

SHIPPING/PAYMENT

Buyer is 100% responsible for getting the car where it needs to go.  I will be happy to lend a hand getting it on a truck, but will not arrange for shippment.

Payment can be made with cash or certified funds (cashiers check/money order)

VW investigating Golf water leak discovered by car magazine

Sat, 07 Sep 2013

Volkswagen is in a spat with German magazine Auto Bild over claims that its new, seventh-generation Golf may already need a recall. The German weekly reports that new Golfs can leak water into front-passenger footwells due to a faulty drainage tube in their air conditioning systems.
And while the fix itself doesn't sound too terrible, because Volkswagen bases so many cars off the same platform as the Golf, Auto Bild is claiming that 300,000 models could be affected, including the Audi A3 and Seat Leon. That's a very bold claim. For its part, VW is vehemently denying that number, according to Reuters, saying it's aware of the problem and claiming only 46 Golfs need fixing. In addition, it denies that any Audi or Seat models are affected by the issue.
Either way, regardless of how pervasive this leak issue is, North American buyers should rest easy knowing that the problems ought to get fixed by the time the Mk VII Golf finaly reaches our dealerships.

VW makes $23K on every Porsche sold, more than Bentley or Lamborghini

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

It's a good time to be in the luxury car business. In Volkswagen Group's financial report for the 2013 fiscal year, it is revealed that that Porsche enjoyed an operating margin of 18 percent. That means the Stuttgart brand made on average about $23,200 per car sold, according to BusinessWeek. Bentley wasn't far behind, and Audi (which was combined with Lamborghini) posted a 10.1 percent margin. This compares to only around 2.9 percent for the Volkswagen brand.
"Luxury brands are on fire," said Dave Sullivan, an industry analyst at AutoPacific. He said that the average profit margin is between six and eight percent. Brands like Porsche and Bentley have the benefit of competing in rarefied markets. Buyers looking at one their vehicles have fewer models to shop against and don't care as much about price. They can also charge more for options, which further boosts income, according to BusinessWeek.
In a way, we should be more impressed by the continued success from Audi. Its models generally have direct competitors in every segment from the other premium automakers. Plus, their buyers aren't the captains of industry who are shopping for a Bentley. Still, the Four Rings is leading rivals in sales so far this year.
