JCS 2110 Dual Carb Engine
JCS Freeway Flyer transmission
Over 25K spent, lots of receipts.
I bought this car in July, 2010 from the owner who did the restoration. I bought it for my wife, and she has not really used it much. We have put 652 miles on it since we bought it and that is the reason we're selling it. With a street bike, dirt bikes, a ski boat and busy schedules, we don't really get time to use it.
The following is copied from the ebay listing by the previous owner:
This is a stunning light blue VW Classic Convertible. I have invested over $25K onm the restoration of this vehicle. the engine, transmission were purchased from JCS. The engine is a turn key 2110cc with the new engine and heads upgrade. Kennedy stage 1 clutch, performance exhaust, dual 40mm carb set, single side cover IRS transmission (388:1 R&P super diff, 11D street) total cost $5210.85 (I have the receipt)
The car comes with new wheels and tires and is also equipped with all four wheel disc brake conversion. New paint and nedw custom interior, it also has a new canvas convertible top with headliner. the suspension system also includes new front struts and rear shocks. All the rubber has been replaced and the dash assembly is also new. The radio needs to be installed and hooked up to the speakers, also the speedo is currently inoperative and the true mileage is unknown. (I have repaired the speedo, but it still pulses at low speed) The vehicle includes just about everything new.
I would add that this thing is quick, and with the higher geared transmission, it will gladly cruise down the highway at 80mph all day.
The previous owner was obviously an enthusiast.
He did spend a lot of money in all the right places and came up with a very appealing car.
Based on what I've seen recently, I would place the real market value of this car around $20K, and that will only go up with time. These old Beetles, especially convertibles are great investments.
Please check the pictures and video link (you can hear it run) carefully to insure you know exactly what you're buying, and good luck; summer is almost here!

2014 Volkswagen XL1 [w/video]
Mon, 11 Mar 2013World's Most Efficient Car Impresses, Not Without Compromises
Among our many duties at the recent Geneva Motor Show, we were offered a pretty exclusive drive in the new Volkswagen XL1 hyper-efficient plug-in diesel hybrid. There is so much that is interesting about a car like this reaching production from a major automaker that it's tough to know where to begin.
First off, you should know that - at least for this generation - there is absolutely no chance in Albuquerque that this "1-liter vehicle" (i.e. a vehicle that can burn just one liter of fuel to travel 100 kilometers, or 62.1 miles) will ever make it into the hands of North American customers. We, too, were having trouble imagining an XL1 in typical American traffic, surrounded by comparatively massive pickups and SUVs. The driving experience had us recalling a couple of weeks in 1999 when we drove the then-revolutionary Honda Insight hybrid on US roads. We keenly remember the feeling of being very small and vulnerable, even as we felt proudly green in our 61-mpg Tochigi pod. Thing is, the Volkswagen is smaller still, and nearly as light despite its more complex drivetrain and safety features.
Volkswagen adding R-Line trim to Touareg, Tiguan for 2014
Fri, 11 Jan 2013Volkswagen introduced its aggressive R-Line appearance package on the CC and Beetle last year, but later this year, this treatment will also be applied to VW's crossovers, the Tiguan and Touareg. Both sporty-looking utility vehicles will be unveiled next week at the Detroit Auto Show.
The 2014 Tiguan R-Line comes standard with bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights, and the package adds 19-inch wheels, grey fender extensions, body-color side skirts and a liftgate spoiler. Inside, the R-Line adds a flat-bottom sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, a black headliner and numerous metallic trim accents such as the stainless scuff plates, the aluminum pedals and metallic finish on the instrument and door panels. The Tiguan R-Line will be offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations.
As for the 2014 Touareg R-Line (shown above), this model gets an ever more distinctive look with an aggressive front fascia, 20-inch wheels and dual oval-shaped exhaust outlets in addition to the painted side skirts and LED taillights. Similar metallic interior trim pieces found inside the Tiguan R-Line will also make their way into the Touareg as well as gloss black accents on the instrument panel and center stack.
Prop-driven VW Beetle hopes to land in Bonneville [w/video]
Thu, 10 Jan 2013Sometimes you meet folks who, when they tell you "Hey, I have an idea," your reflex response is to stop what you're doing and tell yourself, "Get ready...." We imagine Mike Niemans is one of those folks, and the idea in question is putting a tank engine on a Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle. Not just any old tank engine - as if there were such a thing when we're talking about putting them in cars - but a 668-cubic-inch, 220-horsepower radial engine built by Continental in 1941 and procured from an M2 tank.
In the image above Nieman is using the tank clutch hub to get the motor set up, but in one of the images below you can see what really belongs back there is: a two-inch, reverse-pitch prop taken from a wind generator. He says there's enough mojo with the propeller action to get the car rolling down the runway like a jet when he gives it gas - and speaking of gas, the engine's been refitted to run on propane.
After a few safety tweaks Nieman's going to take the matte-black Beetle to Bonneville, "put the prop on, let her go and see what happens!" We can't wait to see the video of that. There are two shakedown videos below to get you ready.
