Fairhope, Alabama, United States

This car comes with a bill of sale.  Alabama does not issue titles on cars this old, so there is on title.  I have an Alabama registration and bill of sale that will allow you to get a title in your state.

Health issues force sale of my Baja project.  This is a solid bug body, only rust issue at bottom of rear side window on drivers side, see pic.  This was a complete car before I started on it and I still have all the parts that were removed.  All glass is there, no chips or cracks.  One window has some frost about 1" from edge.  All gauges are there.  VW seats, steering column, good fenders, engine cover, and hood.  Included is the VW gas tank.  I also purchased and have included new floor pans.  You can also have the front and rear pieces cut off to make the Baja body.  All this is included so you can sell to recover some of your cost.

Also included in this auction is my sand rail.  This buggy was used as a pre-runner for our Baja racing.  The frame has 10 broken welds and is beyond repair. The front beam has some rust issues.  Otherwise this is a good running buggy.  It has a bus tranny with a good clutch.  The engine has only 10 hours on a complete rebuild.  This is a strong running engine with a mild cam and two barrel carb.  Everything else is stock 1600cc in the engine.  Rear trailing arms are stronger than stock.  Five point racing harness.  New 20 gallon foam filled fuel cell.  Drum brakes on the front and disc brakes on the rear.

You will have most everything to put these two together to make one fine Baja Bug.

Call with questions 251-422-3474.  Also call if you are interested is just some parts that you see.  Everything is for sale together or just parts.  I may end this auction early if sold locally.  Call if you want to discuss help with shipping otherwise packing and shipping is at buyers expense.

Lamborghini and Bentley may hold off on SUVs so VW can conserve cash

Thu, 11 Oct 2012

After surveying the European economic scene, Volkswagen may have decided now is not the time to launch utility vehicles with Bentley and Lamborghini badges. Bentley officials say they will continue to push for support for the EXP 9 F and Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelman has said planning for the Urus will continue until VW tells it to stop.
That decision could come on November 23, when VW's board will vote on the company's budget for equipment, factories and vehicles. With VW's sales slowing and the Euro economy slumping further, some industry watchers say the company is more likely to build its cash reserves than to introduce super-expensive luxury SUVs or crossovers.
"Such vehicles are anything but obligatory during a crisis," says Frankfurt-based Equinet AG analyst Tim Schuldt in a new Automotive News Europe story. "Delaying their launch would be no drama but help save costs."

Honda wins Commercial of the Decade, but not for the ad you think [w/VIDEO]

Honda's Commercial of the Decade: "Grrr" - Click above to watch video
The mad men at Adweek recently voted for the Commercial of the Decade (Super Bowl commercials not included) and Honda took top honors over memorable ads from the last ten years by companies like Nike, Budweiser and Sony. That's not a big surprise considering Honda often puts a huge amount of effort into its on-air spots. However, the Japanese automaker didn't win for the commercial you might have expected: "Cog." Though Honda's famous commercial that breaks down a European Accord Tourer into a Rube Goldberg-esque machine was also a finalist, it was beaten by another Honda commercial called "Grrr" that's narrated by Garrison Keillor of all people. You've probably never seen it, but you can after the jump.
Volkswagen also made the list of finalists, but the particular ad chosen out of all the comical VW ads we've seen was unexpected as well. Most surprising carmaker with a commercial in the finals: Saturn. Who knew...

VW budget sub-brand stuck in limbo over VW standards, costs

Sat, 01 Mar 2014

Reports in October 2012 claimed Volkswagen had begun investigating the creation of its own budget brand. This came after having failed to purchase Malaysian car company Proton or produce a meaningful partnership with Suzuki, and after watching Renault-Nissan make piles of euro on Dacia and plot the return of Datsun.
For VW, more important than the question of what to call it was how to build it profitably and in a way that didn't damage the VW brand. According to a report in Autocar, a satisfactory answer still hasn't been found. The hurdle is how to hit "'necessary' quality and safety levels" at the price points needed to make the venture worthwhile. At the time of the 2012 report, German outlet Der Spiegel said VW was trying to get prices down to 6,000 to 8,000 euro ($7,784 to $10,379 US), about two thousand to four thousand euro under the price of the VW Up and in line with the cost of a 6,790-euro Dacia Sandero in Germany.
In March 2013, VW announced, "We want to bring a true budget car to the market in China in the foreseeable future," the most concrete move in that direction after years of planning to make a decision. Working with local Chinese maker FAW, it was predicted that the vehicle in question would appear around 2016, but as of November last year a final vote on it needed to wait until this year because "We are still working on the cost side" and profit possibilities for a car that "has to be durable, it has to be precise, it has to be safe."
