Beetle Convertible 1962 Dressed As A 1958 on 2040-cars

Year:1962 Mileage:15917
Location:

Apple Valley, California, United States

Apple Valley, California, United States

Here we have this 1962 cabriolet.
It's dressed to look like a 1958.
It's on a 1966 pan, & is registered as such.

- Running & driving car
- 12 volt conversion with alternator, new battery & wired for the snowflake lights
- Front disks ( your standard Ghia swap )
- New tires
- Recent front end rebuild
- Stock width select-a-drop
- Stainless braided brake lines & new hard lines.
- New master cylinder.
- Powder coated wheels
- Good running 1600 single port
- Transmission shifts well, no noise & good clutch
- The body is very solid
- Top frame is pretty complete with great glass
- New latches & catches for the top.
- New windshield, rubber & trim
- Correct convertible rear seat & low back front seats
- The package tray & heater channels have already been replaced by the previous owner & they put a new pan seal in as well.
- A lot more new parts ! receipts included.

** The car is pretty solid, but does have small holes in the passenger side pan.
I'd replace the body rails too, but they are more than solid enough to drive on.
If you want to paint it, it'll need some body work. I think it looks cool as is though.
It's missing the side glass & 3 window regulators. Otherwise, pretty complete.
Of course, it needs all the soft goodies, and for the correct 2 tone complete kit with a new top is only about $1000 through J-bugs.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have & more pictures will be added upon request.

Reserve is less than I have in the car. Good Luck

Yes, that's a vintage "ahoogah" horn under the bonnet. Hutchins, I believe. It makes one hell of a racket too, perfect for this car.
It also has a brand new 12 volt VW horn wired & ready to go, just needs the horn button kit ( screws / springs / etc. )

The wood for the top is in pretty decent shape, I was able to stabilize most of it already.
The rear section ( above the deck lid ) will either need to be reworked, or replaced though. It's not rotten, just broken....but mostly there.
The header piece is a WCM composite & should last forever.

I've had several offers to end the listing early & sell it outside of eBay.
Before you ask, I'd really rather go through eBay.
They've always done me right in the past & I feel they've earned their cut if it sells.

If you're curious about the reserve, it's fair for both parties.
Almost every time I tell someone, they instantly offer me less.
It's a reflex, I get it.

Please use the bid button to submit your offer.

Quick update :Got the top aligned with the new latches. Found the correct "dome top" screws as well. It looks pretty cool with the skeleton top up. Very "HoodRide"Giving it a thorough tune up, etc. & apparently the previous owner was mistaken when he said it's a 1600. It's a 1200cc from 1961. The difference is barely noticeable as you probably know. Just thought I'd add the info so you're not like "What the hell man ? You said...."

Another update :
The accelerator pump needed to be replaced, so I threw a full carb kit at it. It's running beautifully now & I'm logging plenty of miles. Hope you don't mind ;)

After the full tune, It'll actually do 65mph+ on that little 1200cc now. It pulls hard too, the engine seems real healthy.

Volkswagen Golf R wagon promises to be fast and functional [w/poll]

Tue, 25 Mar 2014

Volkswagen's array of performance-oriented Golfs keeps getting bigger and bigger. What started with the GTI has since grown to include the diesel GTD, the hybrid GTE and the most powerful Golf R. But the additions haven't all come down to powertain. There's been cabrio versions of the GTI and Golf R as well, but before all is said and done, there will be one more bodystyle to join the lineup.
That, according to these latest spy shots, would be the Golf R Variant. For those unfamiliar, Variant is what Volkswagen calls the wagon version of the Golf (in some markets, anyway). It offers the Golf Variant with a variety of engines, but as the spy shots reveal, it is now working on bringing the Golf Variant and the Golf R together into one high-powered, long-roofed model.
The VW Golf R Variant would in all likelihood pack the same 2.0-liter turbo four as the hatchback, splitting 290 horsepower between all four wheels. Only in the wagon, it would offer that extra bit of utility. Of course there's no guarantee that Volkswagen would offer the Golf R Variant in the North American market, but considering that the Golf R hatchback will soon be joined in American showrooms by the Golf SpotWagen (as it's tipped to be called here) in place for the Jetta wagon, the possibility is definitely there.

2014 VW Golf brings storied hatchback's seventh generation to US

Wed, 27 Mar 2013

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf in US-specification officially debuts at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The new model is the first VW in the States to ride on the company's MQB architecture, and as such, it makes use of plenty of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel to keep weight down. All told, the new shell is 51 pounds lighter than the outgoing generation, despite the fact that the finished car is a full 2.2 inches longer and .5 inches wider than the 2013 model.
Buyers can expect to find a base model powered by a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (blue car above) with 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. That means the powerplant delivers the same horsepower as the old naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder while weighing less and producing seven extra pound-feet of torque. TDI (silver car above) buyers, meanwhile, will enjoy a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder mill. VW says the engine yields 10 more horsepower than the old lump, which means the Golf TDI now boasts 150 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque.
GTI (red car above) buyers will now get their hands on a revised 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with approximately 210 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque - Volkswagen hasn't finalized power numbers for that machine. We're happy to see that the GTI still features its trademark plaid seats. Volkswagen says the new Golf and GTI will go on sale as a 2015 model, but doesn't say when the car will actually hit dealerships.

Anti-union group files lawsuit against VW and UAW

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

The fight for unionization at Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN, factory isn't letting up. Yesterday, the National Labor Relations Board decided to allow anti-United Auto Workers employees at the plant the right to defend voting down the measure. Now, a group called the National Right to Work Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of five workers against VW and the UAW for allegedly working together to organize.
The group says in a release that it wants "to block further collusion between the company and the United Auto Workers." It alleges that VW forced workers to attend "mandatory pro-union meetings" and prevented managers from opposing. In a rebuttal on its website, the UAW called the claims "baseless" and said its actions were entirely legal.
One possible problem faces the carmaker in regards to the lawsuit. According to the Detroit Free Press, a recent US Court of Appeals ruling found that neutrality agreements like the one the business had with the UAW could be illegal if the company provided "things of value" to the union. The newspaper also claims that VW held a mandatory employee meeting concerning the election, but workers were free to leave during the UAW's presentation.
