1972 VW Bug, standard base model.

Here's the low down... the good, the bad  & the ugly.... please read thoroughly before bidding.

Engine fires right up, runs & idles good. It has a brand new battery, points, condenser & spark plugs, but I think it could still use some fine tuning, maybe in the carburetor. The clutch feels good & everything shifts like it should.

The front brakes work good & it has a new master cylinder. The brake line to the rear brakes is blocked off w/ a plug at the master cylinder, so it's still drivable.  I have the new brake line, but haven't had time to put it on yet. I might get around to it this weekend, but no promises.

The interior... pictures speak for themselves, but the seats were reupholstered about 10 years ago & are in fair condition, with some wear mainly from sun fading. The head-liner is white w/ no rips or tears, looks great, except in the rear cargo area under the back window, it's kinda floppy there. Carpet is in good condition & complete. The dash looks a little rough as you can see in the picture. The door panels are brand spanking new, they're so new that they're still in the box.

The body & paint.... The body on the car is fairly solid & mostly rust free. The floor plans look real good, especially under the battery where they're usually rotten, this one is real solid. the front apron is very good w/ no rust through at all & only minimal surface rust. There is a little rust between the running board & the body on the driver side & a little bubbling under the paint on the passenger side ( These areas of concern can be seen in the photo's ) The paint job is cracking, peeling & fading & not in a cool patina kinda way, more like just a crappy old paint job that needs to be redone.

The tires show signs of dry rot, but hold air & have good tread so I would still roll w/ them b/c the spare in the trunk is like new. The car may need some TLC before its ready for a road trip, but this all depends on your personality type. If you are the risk taker, man of danger who lives life on the edge, than I say GO FOR IT ! otherwise you may want to bring your trailer, or have me haul it to you in the comfort of my enclosed car trailer for just 1.30 per mile.

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.

Volkswagen throws a Polo-palooza with four new or upgraded models

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

Volkswagen unveiled a parade of new and upgraded Polo models at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, including the Polo TSI BlueMotion, Polo TDI BlueMotion, Polo BlueGT and CrossPolo (pictured above). While they will likely never make an appearance this side of the pond, it is fun to see what European subcompact drivers will be driving later this year.
The new BlueMotion models represent the most efficient petrol and diesel options in their class, according to VW. The BlueMotion TDI offers just 73 horsepower from its diesel engine but gives the equivalent of 76 miles per gallon (US) in the EU test. The BlueMotion TSI brings a little more power with its 88-hp petrol engine and has a combined rating of 57 mpg (US) in the EU cycle.
The Polo BlueGT provides a balance of performance and economy, and for the 2014 model, it gains a 9-horsepower boost to its 1.4-liter turbocharged to give drivers 147 hp at the press of the accelerator. This year's car also has an optional Sport Select suspension with electronically controlled dampers to improve handling a bit. It's still fitted with active cylinder management to use as little gas as possible when cruising.

2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR is black and yellow, black and yellow

Thu, 07 Feb 2013

Way back in 1973, Volkswagen decided it was high time to take the loveable air-cooled Bug racing. No, it wasn't painted in Herbie colors - Volkswagen called its sport-tuned machine the Beetle GSR, "Gelb Schwarzer Renner" or "Yellow Black Racer." Hence, the somewhat shocking paint scheme.
VW is bringing its sporty black and yellow Beetle back for 2014, and you can see live photos of it above. It's got a 210-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood (that'd be the hood up front, unlike the car's forebear), and a six-speed manual or DSG automatic transmission sends those ponies to the front wheels. Note that this car's output is up 10 horses on other turbo VWs, and the Jetta GLI and Beetle Turbo for 2013. The 0-60 run takes 6.6 seconds, and top speed is limited to 130 miles per hour.
Besides the in-your-face black and yellow paint, the GSR is outfitted with a large rear spoiler and 19-inch wheels shod with 235/40 tires. The bee-like hue carries over inside, with yellow stitching on black leather. Only 3,500 will be produced, each with its own unique plaque. Pricing has not yet been announced, but you're free to read through the press release below all the same.
