You are bidding on a stunningly beautiful 1970 Classic VW Beetle.   The odometer reads 56,435 and although one might assume it may have "rolled over," given the vehicle's 43 year existence -- the original California title reflected mileage not in excess of 56k, and that is what is now reported on the Massachusetts title.  The carefully preserved and restored condition of the vehicle as well as the existence of the original factory engine in excellent running condition has led several experienced classic VW Beetle mechanics to theorize the stated odometer mileage may in fact not reflect a "roll over" of the reading.  This vehicle was a California beetle (Los Angeles) shipped to Boston, MA in May, 2012.   Numbers match (dash VIN & chassis VIN).   A birth certificate from the German VW Auto Museum is included.  The vehicle was built at the German factory on April 13, 1970 and left the factory on April 20, 1970 (shipped to the US).  The engine (#B6-311-437) is the original engine from the factory and is in excellent running order.  New coil, fuel filter, and other items too numerous to mention.   The original factory color was L19K Yukon Yellow, but the former owner had the vehicle fully restored and repainted a beautiful burgundy.  There are two very tiny dings in the driver door.  There are no other dents or dings.  One pan was replaced during the former owner's restoration.  There is very little rust, having always been garaged.  New tires & chrome VW wheel caps.  New battery. The wheels are chrome with minor blemishes.  Bumpers have very minor blemishes - no dings or dents.  When restored, the former owner took liberty with the interior by replacing the factory black leatherette seating with velour cloth in a bucket seat style.  A rare AM/FM stereo radio is one of the vehicle's options.  It is currently connected only to the 1 dash speaker but a new owner could install additional speakers for true stereo sound.  Also included is a very rare engine lid key lock.   One key operates the ignition, both driver & passenger doors, as well as the engine lid.   The black convertible top is in new condition and includes a new black boot cover when the top is down.  All owners manuals are included.  A number of collectible extras are included:  several framed historic 1970 beetle ads from various magazines; the original 1970 VW beetle marketing brochure (18 pages); several books on the 1970 beetle, including a rare shop manual.  A replica plastic model painted same burgundy color w/ black convertible, housed in a mirrored plastic display case is included.   A black VW cap and a blue t-shirt w/ snoopy and tweety bird driving a red convertible beetle is also included.  All-in-all, this vehicle is in very nice mechanical and cosmetic condition, and, w/ associated collectible memorabilia, would be an exceptional acquistion for the classic VW beetle enthusiast.  The original MSRP was $2,249.  NADA antique/collectible vehicle value is currently $10,800 (average retail) & $18,900 (high retail).  It is currently valued/insured for $12,000 w/ a classic/antique vehicle insurance company.   Review my 100% ebay seller rating and bid w/ confidence.   $500 non-refundable deposit required via PayPal within 24 hours of end of listing (serious bidders/purchasers only).  Remaining balance is due within 7 days by certified bank check drawn upon a U.S. bank or cash in person.  Buyer is encouraged to arrange for mechanical and/or cosmetic inspection at his/her own cost.  Buyer is responsible for pickup (local Boston area) or transportation costs to other areas of the continental U.S. (lower 48 states).

VW to unveil diesel-electric Twin-Up! in Tokyo

Fri, 08 Nov 2013

We've received multiple reports that Volkswagen will be bringing a diesel-electric concept to the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, set to take place later this month. The car, called the Twin-Up!, is based on the Up! city car, with some sources claiming this is a thinly veiled concept that will eventually enter production.
According to Automotive News Europe, the Twin-Up! will reportedly return 214 miles per gallon on the US cycle by combining an 800-cc, two-cylinder diesel and an electric motor. It will also boast plug-in capabilities, and will be able to cover 30 miles on electric power alone.
Autocar has a more complete picture of the Twin-Up!'s powertrain, though, claiming it's a modified version of the hybrid system found in the Volkswagen XL1. The Twin-Up! will get a more potent, 47-horsepower electric motor to the XL1's 27-hp unit, but will retain that car's 47-hp turbodiesel. The battery pack will also grow, from 5.5 kilowatt hours to 8.6 kWh. Both of these increases are necessary due to the increased weight of the Twin-Up! - it's some 900 pounds heavier than an XL1.

VW updates Scirocco with revised styling, new engines

Sun, 16 Feb 2014

The Scirocco is undoubtedly one of the better-looking models in the Volkswagen lineup, but introduced back in 2008, it's now been on the market - some markets, anyway - for the better part of six years. VW is said to have an all-new replacement in the works, but before that arrives, the German automaker has announced a facelifted version with revised styling and a new engine lineup.
Set to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the new Scirocco benefits from updated styling front and rear, high-tech exterior lighting, a revised cabin space with some throwback retro touches, some new technologies and, of course, an array of fresh wheel options ranging from 17 to 19 inches.
The updated Scirocco will be offered with a wide array of engines right from the get-go, including four gasoline options and two diesels, spanning from 125 horsepower all the way up to the 280-hp Scirocco R. The 2014 model hits European showrooms in August, but unfortunately isn't any more likely to make the transatlantic voyage Stateside than the version it replaces. Still interested? There's plenty to see in the high-res image gallery above and details in the press release below.

Volkswagen formally introduces super-efficient XL1

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

Lightweight and low drag are hallmarks of great sportscar design. But when paired with a super-efficient, hybrid powertrain, you have the Volkswagen's XL1 that has been formally introduced in Geneva today.
When the 1,700-lb, carbon-fiber-bodied two-seater hits the road, its claimed 261 miles per gallon will make it the world's most-fuel-efficient production car. Though "production car" might be a stretch since VW said in a February press release that the XL1 would be built using "handcrafting-like production methods." We translate that to mean you won't be seeing many of these cars on the road. Though no one at VW has mentioned pricing yet, early rumors suggested a six-figure price tag.
That's supercar budget for a vehicle that has a 47-horsepower, two-cylinder diesel engine and a 27hp electric motor. With numbers like that, owners can expect 0-62 mph times of 12.7 seconds and top speed near 100 mph.
