This opportunity rarely comes around, so don't miss out on your chance to own a true Time Capsule: a 1970 Volkswagen Westfalia Camp Mobile. This Westy Bus only has 35,000 original miles and is in truly great condition. 90% all original, just like coming out of the dealership. Sink, ice-box, folding bed, dining table all look new. Original linoleum floor looks great. All original curtains, top, cot, and stool. These are usually lost or destroyed over the years, but they've been preserved well in this vehicle. Stove and all 1970 accessories look and work like new. No undercarriage rust. Comes with original maintenance record book, some maps, and other paperwork. It was purchased originally in Toms River, NJ.
Bus was stored for 30 years since 1980, with NJ inspection sticker still on window. Bus is sporting a newly rebuilt 1971 1600cc dual port engine.  I have original engine that goes with the sale, 1500cc single port.
Bus was at Foreign Car Works in NJ after sitting for so long to get straightened out mechanically. Engine rebuilt, new clutch, rear shocks, breaks, master cylinder, steering link, gas tank redone, sending unit, new muffler, new tires, new starter. All receipts will be included with original books from original buyer.
Bus has been stored inside its whole life.
Cons- paint is original, except left rear had small dent- filled and repainted, you can see in photo. Nothing major, but worth noting some surface rust on rain gutters. Bumpers were repainted but not white enough. These are minor issues but I wanted to be upfront with everyone.
Vehicle is garage kept and located in NJ. Feel free to make arrangements to test drive and/or inspect. Serious inquiries only.
Again because it is 44 years old, I must offer it as-is, all sales final. Please don't hesitate to contact with any further questions. I have more photos if you would like to see anything else.

Volkswagen's De Silva says next Scirocco will be 'completely different'

Tue, 02 Apr 2013

From our perspective, the reborn Volkswagen Scirocco is a handsome (if squat) little thing. Yet design-wise, it's always struck us as uncomfortably close to the Golf three-door hatchback with which it shares its basic underpinnings. That aesthetic kinship may be part of the reason why Volkswagen has steadfastly refused to import the Scirocco to North America, seeing as how the Golf doesn't regularly set the company's sales charts alight, and it's less expensive.
But that visual similarity might be about to change, says Walter De Silva, who recently told Australia's Car Advice that, "It must be completely different... we don't want to repeat the bodystyle of the Scirocco, we want to change that." Further, the Volkswagen Group's design boss says that the next-generation car isn't terribly far along in development yet - "at the moment, it's only a studio [project]... it's not defined." It's probably just as well, as the new seventh-generation Golf arguably borrows some of its design from the current Scirocco anyway.
So we should expect a much bolder, more differentiated design, right? Well, yes, no and maybe. Back in September, De Silva himself was quoted as saying that the era of flamboyant styling has passed, and that future VW designs will be simpler to better reflect the times and preserve resale value. So... how different could it be?

VW midsize crossover production headed for Chattanooga

Fri, 10 Jan 2014

Potential labor woes aside, it looks like Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN factory must have done something that impressed the bosses in Germany, because it sounds like the three-year-old factory is set to score a second model.
The factory currently builds the Passat, and has been in the running alongside VW's Puebla, Mexico factory to build a new crossover vehicle, likely based on the CrossBlue Concept. According to Bloomberg, a pair of unnamed sources have confirmed that Chattanooga is the favorite ahead of an official announcement.
When last we heard about the CrossBlue Concept, word was that a production decision had been delayed over concerns about the three-row CUV's business case. That August 2013 story claimed that a decision regarding the CrossBlue would be pushed back until early in 2014, which means we're ripe for some sort of news, whether good or bad.

Volkswagen Group names Paefgen head of classics program

Tue, 04 Oct 2011

You may remember the name Franz-Josef Paefgen. Until recently, the German engineer and executive was head of both Bentley and Bugatti. Before that he was chief executive of Audi, after working for several years at Ford. He technically "retired" earlier this year, but like the cars he helped create, an executive like Paefgen could never really retire. So it should come as little surprise that the Volkswagen Group has named Dr. Paefgen head of its Classic program.
In his new capacity, Paefgen will oversee the historic automobile activities of the entire VW Group, including those of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, and of course Bentley and Bugatti. It strikes us as a suitable semi-retirement for the man responsible in no small part for the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Mulsanne, to name just two, and who was decorated in 2006 by the ACO as the "Spirit of Le Mans" for his contribution to endurance racing. Read the official announcement after the break.
