Mostly restored and in excellent condition.  Daily driver in southern CA, we take this bus anywhere.  No problems on trips, freeway traffic, or beach traffic, ... it runs and drives excellent.  Everything works.  Strong rebuilt engine, goes up hills and mountains easily, had it done at 122k miles.  No rust, all solid original with new paint - original color.  When painted I had new rubber seals installed on all windows, and had a new windshield installed.  New fuel filter, fuel filler neck/ hoses, etc.   Only thing this bus could use is new cushioning in the front seat.  The seat is deceiving, it looks great on the outside but the padding is shot.  We love this bus but must sell to help finish a home transaction.  Will buy another down the road.

- 2.0L engine recently rebuilt by Canyon Porsche/Volkswagen - a premium VW specialty shop in Laguna Beach (40 yrs).  All Receipts.
- Fuel injected, passes tough CA smog test no problem whatsoever - just renewed registration in June and passed first attempt.
- 4 speed manual transmission.
- No rust, all original panels.  The only bad spot on bus is the battery tray, not visible but has corroded in spots.  I put a piece of wood under battery so its secure and works great.
- Good quality paint job.
- Fuel filler neck, filler tubes, and fuel filter are all new, with new locking gas cap.  No gas smell in this bus and safe to drive.
- Many new and replaced parts over the years, great overall condition.

Bus is listed for sale locally as well as ebay so auction will end as soon as sold.  Don't hesitate to make offer or arrange to inspect the bus in person, (949) 362-0068 (does not accept text).  Over the last couple years I've had many people want to buy this bus, now I must unfortunately sell it.  I will be happy to help buyer with shipper or storing bus for up to a month at my house.  Thank you for looking.

Prop-driven VW Beetle hopes to land in Bonneville [w/video]

Thu, 10 Jan 2013

Sometimes you meet folks who, when they tell you "Hey, I have an idea," your reflex response is to stop what you're doing and tell yourself, "Get ready...." We imagine Mike Niemans is one of those folks, and the idea in question is putting a tank engine on a Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle. Not just any old tank engine - as if there were such a thing when we're talking about putting them in cars - but a 668-cubic-inch, 220-horsepower radial engine built by Continental in 1941 and procured from an M2 tank.
In the image above Nieman is using the tank clutch hub to get the motor set up, but in one of the images below you can see what really belongs back there is: a two-inch, reverse-pitch prop taken from a wind generator. He says there's enough mojo with the propeller action to get the car rolling down the runway like a jet when he gives it gas - and speaking of gas, the engine's been refitted to run on propane.
After a few safety tweaks Nieman's going to take the matte-black Beetle to Bonneville, "put the prop on, let her go and see what happens!" We can't wait to see the video of that. There are two shakedown videos below to get you ready.

2013 Volkswagen GTI Driver's Edition brings exclusivity to the granddaddy of hot hatches

Thu, 07 Feb 2013

The Volkswagen booth at this year's Chicago Auto Show was filled with various special edition models of the Beetle and GTI. In addition to the GTI Wolfsburg Edition, the Volkswagen GTI Driver's Edition helps to wrap up the 2013 model year as VW readies the all-new MkVII Golf next year.
Only 3,000 of the GTI Driver's Edition models will be produced in four-door body style only, and the available color palette will be limited to just Candy White, Carbon Steel Gray and Deep Black. The package will come standard with the GTI's Sunroof and Navigation package, and it will add unique features such as the 18-inch "Laguna" wheels, a golf-ball shift knob, partial leather seats and red-stitching on the carpeted floor mats. Buyers of this package will also get a certificate of authenticity and some GTI swag such as a hat, keychain and parking sign.
Starting price for the 2013 Volkswagen GTI Driver's Edition is $29,695 with the six-speed manual and $30,795 if you choose the DSG - both prices exclude destination charges.

Volkswagen offers Beetle Classic, priced from $20,195*

Tue, 23 Sep 2014

The current Volkswagen Beetle already tries to be a fairly retro-looking ride by cribbing styling elements from the iconic original. However, for the new, limited-edition Classic model, VW is hopping into the time machine to grab even more vintage cues. The company is even cutting the price, perhaps in hopes of turning around flagging sales this year. You don't need to wait long for any of these upgrades either because the automaker says that the Classic goes on sale this week for $20,195, *excluding the $820 destination charge. That's $100 less than a bone-stock Beetle.
Starting as a standard Beetle with VW's 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, the Classic edition comes with a six-speed automatic and then adds some retro flair. It includes new vintage-look 17-inch wheels with simulated dog dish polished hubcaps over black spokes. It also comes with a rear spoiler, and the automaker is offering the model in Pure White, Black Uni, and Reflex Silver.
The interior mixes in a few more classic touches but includes modern amenities like a standard navigation system, satellite radio and multifunction steering wheel. However, the seats are finished in a two-tone design combining light brown leatherette on the sides and checked cloth centers, plus lumbar support for the driver's side. The shift knob and handbrake also get wrapped in leather.
