1984 Volkswagen Westphalia Camper Van
This westy is reliable, powerful, and fun to drive with the Subaru powertrain. It is also very smooth with the Subaru engine.
We are the second owners of this Texas camper van. We've put 70K miles on the van since it has been complete gone though and the engine upgraded to a Subaru. The typical Vanagon issues were address at that time. The passenger side seam was treated with rust-cure. We've done a number of small upgrades over the years to make it nicer for camping. Some of the van's features are listed below. Feel free to ask questions. Van is available for viewing in Dallas, TX.
During the rebuild the following items were done.
-1990 EJ22 2.2 liter Subaru boxer engine.
-rebuilt the cv axles
-new drums, rotors, brake hoses and brake pads.
-new wheel bearings
-new rubber bushings and ball joints in front end.
-new Bosch fuel pump.
-tank reseal kit
-Kenwood CD player and speakers
-Higher power starter to spin Subaru engine quickly
-new shocks
-repaired skylight and seals.
-new rear bug screen.
-new heater fan, switch, and flap seals in air box $$.
-Custom VW drink holders.
-Subaru drivers and passenger seats added.
-The factory curtains, both tables, fridge, stove, sink, swiveling seats, cabinets, and camper misc are there. Stove works great. Sink pump replaced. Fridge works and flue has been cleaned and the fan has been upgraded to a quiet one. (you can now sleep at night when the fridge runs). The pop-top is in decent shape-it is original, and has a few repaired tears. The mattresses are also original they have some wear and tear but they’re completely comfortable and functional.
*This van also comes with the rare middle seat.
*We have a number of extras that come with this van! One extra 14" wheel. Complete set of 15" aluminum wheels with Goodyear Cargo Tires plus a steel 15" spare. The 15" wheels came out of a Eurovan, you will need longer studs to mount these wheels. Rear hitch. Front mounted bike rake, allows full access to the rear hatch. Spares Subaru parts, ECU, mass sensor, relays, misc sensors.
A/C does work but does have a slow leak. The compressor, expansion valve, filter have been replaced.
2013 added freshly rebuilt 4 speed manual transmission, new clutch, pressure plate, bearing and slave cylinder.

Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe is a green fun-machine we want to drive
Fri, 19 Apr 2013Think back to January's Detroit Auto Show. Those of you that are fans of the Volkswagen brand, impressed with green technology or simply fall into the "diesel geek" category, will almost certainly remember VW's CrossBlue concept with its diesel/electric hybrid powertrain, seating for seven, and somewhat awkward crossover styling. It was an impressive piece of future tech, to be sure, though it left something to be desired in the, well, desirability department.
Here in Shanghai, VW has brought along a CrossBlue Coupe concept that would seem to include most of the goodness of the original, but flavored with more sport and style this time around.
The CrossBlue Coupe makes use of the same electric drive components as the larger three-row concept: two electric motors (front and rear) powered by a 9.8-kWh lithium-ion battery. However, where the original concept made use of a TDI four-cylinder, the Coupe substitutes a 295-horsepower, direct-injection, gasoline-burning V6.
Last VW bus ever made arrives at final destination
Fri, 31 Jan 2014A Brazilian politician tried to save it, unsuccessfully, so the final Last Edition Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi was produced on December 20, 2013 and now resides in a vintage museum at Volkswagen's Commercial Vehicles HQ in Hanover, Germany.
The Volkswagen Microbus was built for 56 years, starting in September 1957. Brazil was the last country still assembling it, but new safety regulations in the country requiring airbags and ABS on all cars spelled the end. When that politician introduced a bill that would pardon only the 'Bus from a death sentence, it couldn't garner the required number of votes for passage. The South American country takes the Kombi production title, though, with 1.5 million of the 3.5 million total made in the home of Copacabana beach and the girl from Ipanema.
The VW Bus is dead. Now perhaps we can turn our attentions to the still-not-totally-settled matter of the Bulli...
VW midsize crossover production headed for Chattanooga
Fri, 10 Jan 2014Potential labor woes aside, it looks like Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN factory must have done something that impressed the bosses in Germany, because it sounds like the three-year-old factory is set to score a second model.
The factory currently builds the Passat, and has been in the running alongside VW's Puebla, Mexico factory to build a new crossover vehicle, likely based on the CrossBlue Concept. According to Bloomberg, a pair of unnamed sources have confirmed that Chattanooga is the favorite ahead of an official announcement.
When last we heard about the CrossBlue Concept, word was that a production decision had been delayed over concerns about the three-row CUV's business case. That August 2013 story claimed that a decision regarding the CrossBlue would be pushed back until early in 2014, which means we're ripe for some sort of news, whether good or bad.
