This is an 1984 VW Vanagon GL (non-camper) purchased with.approx 246000 mi..Engine was rebuilt at approx. 216000 mi......majority of miles are highway miles, good compression, water cooled

The transmission is  rebuilt ,and has about 2500 miles on it. "Go Westy" 16 inch aluminum wheels(purchased new with the tires)  Michelin Hydroedge tires 90% tread remaining (real nice!)

Bus drives, handles and brakes well. Front and rear suspensions are tight and in good shape.

Also replaced since purchase.... water pump, alternator, injector fuel lines, new CD player and 5.25"speakers,cv boots, ball joints, fuel pump, battery, also has roof racks..

Paint (blue) and body are in good shape....interior is old, but in pretty good condition.

Now the bad stuff...the motor develops a major miss after it has been driven for a distance. We were told this was a worn lifter problem. Running 50wt oil solves this problem for a while.

Please keep in mind this motor has very good compression...130...129...135...132. This is a soild motor but does need some repair!

She has some electrical ghosts..battery drain....wipers and cooling fan are intermitent....should be no biggie

The bus is currently registered in Washington (no smog cert. needed)  but is located in San Jose Ca. (will not pass ca. smog)Has a clean pink and  current Washington registration

The transmission was $2000.....the wheels and tires were over $1200.....plus .. all the other items mentioned add up to alot of $$$$

I have all the records and reciepts for all the work done and parts purchased.

This car is being sold as-is...no warranty      $1700 takes it home.....!

Volkswagen considering a four-door, four-seat XL1

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

According to a report in Autocar, Volkswagen might have more in mind for the XL1 than mining it for advances to grace the next-generation Golf. Aiming to fight the Honda FCEV due for public consumption next year, we're told VW executives have put a four-door, four-seater version of the XL1 - it could be called XL2 - on the drawing board. The impetus is said to come from the top, with VW Group chairman Ferdinand Piëch intent on staying in the deep end of "super-efficent vehicles."
Autocar suspects the necessary changes could raise the weight of the car from 1,749 pounds to 2,068 pounds, which would make it four pounds less than the 2,072-pound Up! we drove a few years ago. Crucially, however, the mag thinks the extra capacity wouldn't change the two-seater's 310-mile-per-gallon rating, with tech tweaks and the aerodynamic benefit of a longer car offsetting the weight. Speculation is that the back seats would be staggered like the fronts in order to maintain the XL1's overall profile.
We recently heard about another XL1 variant that's gone off the radar entirely, the Ducati-engined XLR that we thought we'd see at the Geneva Motor Show and that was said to be going into production, so this one could go the same way. The biggest hurdle to making such an idea a reality, though, could be the price: the current XL1 costs 110,000 euros ($146,116). If VW really is going to compete with the Honda FCEV and the Toyota FCV - $70,000 in Japan - that might be where it wants to start.

New VW Beetle Convertible ad needs no disguise

Mon, 18 Feb 2013

Convertibles make you do funny things. Ask someone if they'd drive a hardtop in near freezing temperatures with all the windows down and they might not even answer, thinking the question so ridiculous. Give that same person a convertible they love and you might just have to ask them to please put the top up even when snow is on the ground.
That guy has to take precautions to enjoy his proclivities, and as this new ad for the Volkswagen Beetle Convertible shows, not everyone understands. Have a watch below, and note that there's just one woman in the minute-long spot, and she's nowhere near the car. Seriously, why didn't VW run this commercial during the Super Bowl?

VW midsize crossover production headed for Chattanooga

Fri, 10 Jan 2014

Potential labor woes aside, it looks like Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN factory must have done something that impressed the bosses in Germany, because it sounds like the three-year-old factory is set to score a second model.
The factory currently builds the Passat, and has been in the running alongside VW's Puebla, Mexico factory to build a new crossover vehicle, likely based on the CrossBlue Concept. According to Bloomberg, a pair of unnamed sources have confirmed that Chattanooga is the favorite ahead of an official announcement.
When last we heard about the CrossBlue Concept, word was that a production decision had been delayed over concerns about the three-row CUV's business case. That August 2013 story claimed that a decision regarding the CrossBlue would be pushed back until early in 2014, which means we're ripe for some sort of news, whether good or bad.
