1985 Volkswagon Westfalia Poptop Camper on 2040-cars

This 1985 Volkswagon Westfalia was purchased from a private seller in Canada and transported to Texas. It fires right up and easily does seventy miles per hour. The engines purrs and I love this van. I'm selling it because I need the money to make a home purchase. In Texas, I put it in the VW Automotive center for a complete checkup. At that time a new alternator and battery were installed, the relay was removed, an air bubble cleared from the line. It received a tune-up, oil change and fuel filter. We installed new headlights and license plate covers. The van already came with nice new chrome bumpers. The West Vancouver, Canadian owner threw some money into this van but I can't quote you what. I only know the high-mileage is not as significant as it sounds. I may be an elderly woman but I see no rust under this vehicle. The poptop and the rollout windows have some rust but I bought a bunch of new screws from GoWesty, which are included with the vehicle. Also included are new blue hoses and clamps for the engine. The three window canvas poptop is in excellent condition. I am including the brand new toddler cot, mosquitos screens, and new curtains. There are four very good tires but no spare. Interior lighting works but I have never used the stove or fridge but, as the photos show, they appear to be in excellent condition. The heater works wonderful but the A/C may need freon. The car comes with all the original paperwork. As you know this is a restoration candidate and not a new vehicle. Even so it's a wonderful van and I would not hesitate to take it on a long road trip. The paint appears to be relatively new and there are no dents or body damage. I expect a non-refundable $1,000 down to be paid within 48 hours. I ask that you do not bid on the van if you don't have the cash to complete the transaction. I will not wait for you to make a loan, etc. The van will be relisted if you do not pay for it promptly. I will give you my phone number upon request.

Toyota reclaims global sales crown, GM and VW not far behind

Mon, 28 Jan 2013

TheDetroitBureau.com reports Toyota has retaken the global sales crown. The Japanese automaker turned out 9.75 million vehicles last year, putting it just ahead of General Motors, with 9.29 million vehicles. Volkswagen, meanwhile, filled out the podium by building 9.1 million units in 2012.
Still, Toyota numbers fell just below projections the automaker made earlier in the year, due largely to a fierce territorial dispute between Japan and China that has seen mainland buyers shun Japanese goods. But the news marks a substantial comeback for Toyota. The company fell to third place in the global production race in 2011 after tragic earthquake and tsunami caused several plant closures.
In Japan, Toyota enjoyed a sales increase of 35 percent over the previous year, while the company's worldwide sales jumped by 23 percent thanks in part to new additions to the Prius line. The automaker is forecasting yet another increase for 2013, with the company projecting to reach 9.91 million units this year. Neither Volkswagen nor GM have released their own projections just yet.

VW Golf Sportsvan succeeds Golf Plus in Frankfurt

Sun, 08 Sep 2013

Just ahead of this week's Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen has announced the world premiere of its Golf Sportsvan, a near-production concept that succeeds its Golf Plus. VW describes this compact family car as "one of the most versatile vehicles of the compact class," noting that it offers a mix of hatchback and minivan features in a sporty package.
That sportiness comes from the Sportsvan's styling (perhaps more sleek wagon than minivan) and performance features it shares with the Golf GTI - including the XDS+ electronic differential lock, which is integrated into the Electronic Stability Control system to improve agility. At the same time, the Sportsvan's six engine options, which include a turbodiesel, are up to 19-percent more fuel-efficient than their predecessors.

TN politicians may push to end VW incentives if plant goes union

Tue, 11 Feb 2014

Volkswagen's Chattanooga Assembly Plant is scheduled to vote on whether to unionize in the coming days, but Tennessee state lawmakers are threatening to deny future tax subsidies to the factory, if the vote is successful. The factory is currently the only Volkswagen plant worldwide that is not unionized.
The states's Republican lawmakers have been particularly vocal against the union vote. Tennessee state senator Bo Watson said during a press conference that VW would have a "very tough time" with future incentives if the vote were successful, according to Automotive News. Tennessee House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick said the "heavy hand" of the UAW is not welcome there. VW has drawn criticism from both sides because it has allowed both pro- and anti-union groups to speak to workers and hand out leaflets.
Roughly 1,500 factory employees will vote on whether to unionize from February 12-14. If successful, the Chattanooga factory would be the first in the US organized under a German-style works council system where white- and blue-collar workers directly negotiate factory issues with the company's management.
