43 year old Volkswagen bus.

This bus is being sold to be restored, so there will be various repairs needed. Mainly, though I do not claim to be listing all needed repairs here:

Has a few rusty spots.

Windshield is cracked, but has been treated to minimize spread.

The interior has been stripped, seats need upholstering, floors, panels, etc need refinishing.

Has a few wiring issues that all arose at the exact same time so they are likely related, I simply don't have the time to follow wires. (e.g. the right tail light/turn signal does not work properly and when activated, the fuel gauge drops until disengaged, etc.).

Cylinder 3 has noticable wear.

The rear main seal leaks oil when driven at highway speeds.

Mileage unknown. It tracks accurately, but I have no idea how many times the odometer has spun over.

I am the second owner (I've had it since 07/2011) and I have the original owner's maintenace and repair receipts as well as the original sales slip. My bus has gotten me everywhere I've asked it to take me, but it needs someone with a little more time than I have to invest. Currently being driven on a regular basis (i.e. it runs).

This is a 43 year old vehicle, so there may very well be issues needing to be addressed that aren't listed here, but there is nothing more major THAT I AM AWARE OF.

By bidding on this vehicle, you are agreeing to purchase the vehicle AS IS. I've described honestly. I would personally buy this vehicle without hesitation had I more time to work on it.

Questions are gladly received and answered as promptly as possible given my varying schedule. Anything specific you'd like to know about? . . .I can go out and investigate and give you my best answer: just ask.

Volkswagen Golf R wagon promises to be fast and functional [w/poll]

Tue, 25 Mar 2014

Volkswagen's array of performance-oriented Golfs keeps getting bigger and bigger. What started with the GTI has since grown to include the diesel GTD, the hybrid GTE and the most powerful Golf R. But the additions haven't all come down to powertain. There's been cabrio versions of the GTI and Golf R as well, but before all is said and done, there will be one more bodystyle to join the lineup.
That, according to these latest spy shots, would be the Golf R Variant. For those unfamiliar, Variant is what Volkswagen calls the wagon version of the Golf (in some markets, anyway). It offers the Golf Variant with a variety of engines, but as the spy shots reveal, it is now working on bringing the Golf Variant and the Golf R together into one high-powered, long-roofed model.
The VW Golf R Variant would in all likelihood pack the same 2.0-liter turbo four as the hatchback, splitting 290 horsepower between all four wheels. Only in the wagon, it would offer that extra bit of utility. Of course there's no guarantee that Volkswagen would offer the Golf R Variant in the North American market, but considering that the Golf R hatchback will soon be joined in American showrooms by the Golf SpotWagen (as it's tipped to be called here) in place for the Jetta wagon, the possibility is definitely there.

Lamborghini and Bentley may hold off on SUVs so VW can conserve cash

Thu, 11 Oct 2012

After surveying the European economic scene, Volkswagen may have decided now is not the time to launch utility vehicles with Bentley and Lamborghini badges. Bentley officials say they will continue to push for support for the EXP 9 F and Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelman has said planning for the Urus will continue until VW tells it to stop.
That decision could come on November 23, when VW's board will vote on the company's budget for equipment, factories and vehicles. With VW's sales slowing and the Euro economy slumping further, some industry watchers say the company is more likely to build its cash reserves than to introduce super-expensive luxury SUVs or crossovers.
"Such vehicles are anything but obligatory during a crisis," says Frankfurt-based Equinet AG analyst Tim Schuldt in a new Automotive News Europe story. "Delaying their launch would be no drama but help save costs."

EU formally questions French government assistance of Peugeot's finance arm

Fri, 28 Dec 2012

Recently, the finance arm of PSA/Peugeot-Citroën was in such debt trouble that it was pricing itself out of the car loan market. The rates it was paying to service its debt, which was rated one step above junk, were so high that it was forced to charge car-buying customers higher rates than they could find elsewhere. This was adding to Peugeot's already impressive woes by sending revenue out the door to competitors.
Two months ago a deal was worked out with the French government whereby the state would provide 7 billion euro ($9 billion USD) in bonds to guarantee the finance arm's loans. The French government could nominate someone to join the Peugeot board, Peugeot would guarantee more French jobs, and on top of that deal, other banks would provide non-guaranteed loans. The government would take no equity stake in the car company.
Although not yet finalized, the arrangement is meant to create some breathing room for Peugeot Finance to lower its interest rates for customers, and a government-nominated board member, Louis Gallois, was recently named to Peugeot's supervisory board. The arrangement was also openly questioned by at least three competitors: Ford, Renault - which is 15-percent owned by the French government after it received state aid - and the German state of Lower Saxony, itself a 15-percent shareholder in Volkswagen.
