The air conditioning isn't very cold anymore, but I didn't use it all summer because the top was down anyways! The only other problem is the driver window goes down pretty slowly. It's done it the past two years, and I had my mechanic look at it but he said it wasn't worth taking it to Volkswagen dealership to look at if it still goes up and down."

This is my dad's old summer car.  My dad's friend from England was in New York on business and my dad bought this car from him in 1997.  My dad has basically owned and taken care of the car since it was brand new.  We have only used this car as a summer car for most of it's life and it is in good condition for the age.  I decided two summers ago that I was going to use this in the summer instead of my dodge truck.  I liked driving it so much I did some work, and got new tires for it.  This is seriously a blast to drive.  It's no drag racer, but it it the most comfortable car to be in during the summer.

Regular maintenance has been done to this vehicle.  The clutch still feels very nice and it is a very fun car to drive.  We have also done quite a bit of work to the car including:
-New brakes. Pads and rotors on the front and back
-New muffler and part of exhaust system cause I didn't want it to rust out
-New performance air intake for better miles per gallon
-New stereo and two new Rocksford Fosgate speakers in the front for better sound when the top is down
-New tires put on at the beginning of this summer

I recently traded in my truck for an Acura that i'm going to drive all season.  Dad told me to put this car on eBay to see what he could get out of it since I'm not driving it anymore.  He said it'd be worth it not being in our garage all winter so we have somewhere to store our boat.  Please consider this car, it's worth it for the fun stick shift to drive.  Message me with any questions you have about the car.  I look forward to hearing from you!

Carlex Criollo is a Volkswagen Multivan shrine to Alcantara, leather and... fish

Wed, 10 Jul 2013

A keen angler recently went to Polish tuner Carlex Design (the same folks who did that steampunk Mini Countryman a while back) for a revamp of his Volkswagen Multivan. What resulted is perhaps the most striking - yet fishing-unfriendly - interior we've ever seen in a van. Below the shoulder line, if a surface isn't covered in cross-stitched Alcantara, then it's covered in cross-stitched leather. Even the steering wheel airbag boss. And the seat supports. And the cupholders.
The brown hue of the Multivan's interior is called Criollo, named for an especially fine specimen of cocoa. The finishing touch on the overhaul is a fileting knife that Carlex made for the owner. We imagine he'll use the knife for the marine life, but keep his van far away from it.

US-spec 2015 Volkswagen Golf and GTI to finally debut in New York

Tue, 12 Mar 2013

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf is hardly new to us. In fact, we've already driven it. And elsewhere in the world, the new Golf is already winning awards. Even so, we still have yet to see the US-spec version of the car, though that won't be the case much longer. As part of the New York Auto Show festivities later this month, Volkswagen will finally show off the 2015 Golf models destined for our shores.
Three different versions of the Golf will debut under the lights of New York City's Javits Center: the turbocharged TSI, oil-sipping TDI and hotter GTI. The first model in that list uses Volkswagen's new 1.8-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, replacing the outgoing 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline five-cylinder. The latter two models use familiar engines: the 2.0-liter TDI diesel and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, respectively.
Even though the new Golf officially debuts later this month, it won't go on sale in the US until the first quarter of 2014. We'll be waiting patiently.
