For sale is a one owner 2005 Volkswagen Golf TDI four door hatchback. It runs and drives 100%, is very fuel efficient and is being sold with no reserve. The 1.9L four cylinder turbo charged diesel engine purrs along without a miss, smoke or overheat. No "check engine" or warning lights of any kind. The 5 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly with plenty of clutch. The brakes, steering and suspension seem good. No exhaust leaks. The exterior has a few issues. You can see by the pictures that the front, left side and rear are all in good condition with no major dings. The right side is "cosmetically challenged". The doors open and close with no problem but the first thing needed is a side view mirror. No windshield cracks. The lights and lenses are bright with no cracks. The tires have about 25% tread (see pic). The interior is grey carpet and cloth seats. There are no holes, rips or wear areas however the interior could use a good cleaning. This is the way it was traded at the local Volkswagen Dealer. All the power options such as windows, cruise control, locks, etc. work as designed. The heat is hot and the AC is cold. There is a factory sound system with CD. Despite the cosmetic issue, this Golf rides like new. We have the original owner's manual and window sticker which shows $18K when new. There are absolutely no current mechanical problems and no indication of any impending issues. The new owner will be able to drive home, with confidence, no matter where they live. This one owner vehicle is being sold by a Maryland Used Car Dealer. We require, on ALL internet sales, a $200 internet auction fee which covers document, clerical, airport transportation, IT support, internet provider and all other internet auction expenses. Volkswagen Golf Wagon caught completely uncovered
Thu, 28 Feb 2013Without a lot of information to go with them, our camera-toting spies have captured some new images of a Volkswagen Golf wagon variant that is almost completely undisguised. In fact, the one piece of camouflage on the tidy wagon would probably have gone unnoticed to most casual viewers. Look closely at the rear three-quarter view of the car and you'll notice that the apparent taillight clusters are actually fakes - the outline of the real units is faintly visible behind the blue bodywork and the sticker-like fake taillights.
It's a good guess then, that this Golf wagon (called a Golf Kombi by our spy photographer) is a prototype that's pretty far along in the development cycle for Volkswagen. We can't be sure what impact this will have on the company's small wagon offering here in the US, but we'd be pretty surprised if something very like this didn't end up as the next Jetta SportWagen. We might well have more information on that front, after we visit Geneva next week.
1000-hp Mk1 VW Golf is terrifyingly cool
Tue, 04 Jun 2013There are plenty of things to love about the Mk1 Volkswgen Golf. The machine's horsepower isn't one of them. From the factory, the little hatch cranked a breathy 112 horsepower from the most robust form of its 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. Boba motoring, however, has taken that figure and multiplied it by a factor of nearly 10. If 1,000 horsepower sounds terrifying in a machine with a wheelbase of just 94.5 inches, it should. A massive Garrett GTX4202R turbo force-feeds the little mill through a tweaked 16-valve KR head. The crew calls the beast the 16Vampir, and we think that's fitting.
Of course, we'd wager you quit reading right about the time you set your eyes on that headline. Those of you who've stuck around this long can point yourselves below to see the maniacal creation in action. You won't be disappointed.
TN politicians may push to end VW incentives if plant goes union
Tue, 11 Feb 2014Volkswagen's Chattanooga Assembly Plant is scheduled to vote on whether to unionize in the coming days, but Tennessee state lawmakers are threatening to deny future tax subsidies to the factory, if the vote is successful. The factory is currently the only Volkswagen plant worldwide that is not unionized.
The states's Republican lawmakers have been particularly vocal against the union vote. Tennessee state senator Bo Watson said during a press conference that VW would have a "very tough time" with future incentives if the vote were successful, according to Automotive News. Tennessee House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick said the "heavy hand" of the UAW is not welcome there. VW has drawn criticism from both sides because it has allowed both pro- and anti-union groups to speak to workers and hand out leaflets.
Roughly 1,500 factory employees will vote on whether to unionize from February 12-14. If successful, the Chattanooga factory would be the first in the US organized under a German-style works council system where white- and blue-collar workers directly negotiate factory issues with the company's management.
